For those who have bought and is playing Hearthfire, here's some information you might have not known.

If a child's parent(s) are dead, they will be sent to the Honorhall Orphanage, where you can adopt them.
Aventus Aretino cannot be adopted, as he never goes back to the Orphanage.
The three new Housecarls are different from other Housecarls; one is Redguard and dual-wields Scimitars, one wears Scaled armor, wields a mace, and uses magic, and one has a greatsword.(Tell us if there are any changes to the vanilla Housecarls with Hearthfire)
The new children can be found in Whiterun, Windhelm, Katlas' Farm, and Dawnstar.
Gifts that you can give to your children include any dagger, even Daedric.

If anyone with Hearthfire has any information that is not obvious/covered by the wikis, post them here.

That's not entirely true. I adopted Lucia whose parents had died and she was roaming around Whiterun, not the orphanage. So it might be possible that Aventus could be adoptable.

Didn't phrase that right. I meant already existing children. If you watch the trailer, it shows a Gralnach, who is a boy from Heartwood Mill.

Speaking of kids, I gave each of mine new clothes and now they both run around naked.

Jersey Dagmar

Just in time for the fiyahworks show! BOOM!

Well, this got dark quickly! Thanks for the info. Now all I have to do is kill people's parents to adopt them! Funny how Bethesda can make even a home & hearth DLC creepy sometimes, lol. I would absolutely die if there was a quest to recruit Aretino into the DB. His interactions with Babette would be priceless. By the way, has anyone taled to Babette since the DLC came out? I'd love to harass Babette about adoption =P Also, can that kid that was at Helgen and is later in Froki's Shack be adopted? (if you kill Froki?)

To that end, why is it they had to have the little girl voice actress have a lisp? It gets really annoying after a while.

I'm nearly done with my third house now just finding all the materials for the shrines, but honestly, while I do like the DLC..... I kinda wanted more. Like I want a cook, a servents quarters apart from the house, a maid a butler, and farmland with farmers. Like a whole estate. Maybe even a small town. Can't complain about 5$ of content but I easily would have paid another 20 for your own hold. Start with a manor, which becomes a jarls hall, have a moot to declare you jarl of... *epic pause* Helgen! I kno it's part of the rift... Or whiterun hold, but they're kinda far from Helgen and how cool would it be/ ironic if you could?

That's interesting. Were all of the houses the same style?

My first house was much more of a home. So I went with bedrooms/storage/kitchen

My second house is my mancave. So enchanter tower/trophy room/armory

My third house is a more "think tank" so library, alchemist tower, greenhouse.
(repost from previous discussion)

I will say though... Almost 1000 iron ingots later... My pockets are quite, thin.

I too was surprized that daggers can be given to children.
I gave mine wooden swords I bought from the Khajiit and they use them to train on the dummy I installed.
They have some good fighting skills already and display some spinning moves that indicate they`ve been watching Rayya dual-wield her scimitars.

The clothing being shed may or may not be a glitch. Real kids run around in their skivvies all the time.
We live by a lake so maybe it`s like that so they can go swimming ?
At any rate , just give them another set of new clothes and they will wear them.
I`ve put assorted outfits in the chests next to their beds.

Valdimar the housecarl is a Spellsword. Ice magic , wards , and flesh armor from left hand and 1h weapon from right. I gave him Vyrthur`s Ancient Falmer Armor to wear and he is a beast in combat.
Sometimes uses bow , rarely uses shield

Gregor is a 2h but seems basically the same as Argis the Bulwark or Calder and will use sword and board effectively if you want him to. a good archer as well.

2 of 3 houses have skeevers in the cellar and probably the third one will also.
As a necromancer , I`ve left the bodies of selected Khajiit in the cellars which I raise to do the dirty work of extermination.
kind of a skyrim variant on Tom and Jerry

Horkers will try to raid your fish hatchery and Giants want to rustle your cows.

Excellent info, thanks.

Which housecarl is assigned to which hold? I will probably only build one house and I like the idea of a magic-using housecarl.

I've only become thane in Solitude since Hearthfire and it's still Jordis. I'm thinking of putting any adopted kids in Proudspire- the children's bedroom looks great there, and I'd like to think they can play with Svari and the other kids.

Valdimar is the housecarl for Windstad Manor in Hjaalmarch after you become Thane for that Hold.
You can see Solitude and the back of Proudspire in the distance from there !

Rayya the Redguard in Falkreath and Gregor in The Pale.
