What gave you this Idea that the Empire is weak?
Anyone who surrenders to the Thalmor is unfit to rule Skyrim. The Stormcloaks could have beaten back the Dominion.

What are you talking about? The Empire didn't surrender to the Dominion, rather, both sides sued for peace. Also, the people were begging for peace. Without it, destruction would have resulted from both sides.
"No part of the Empire would have accepted these terms in 4E 171, dictated by the Thalmor at swords-point. Titus II would have faced civil war. By 4E 175, most of the Empire welcomed peace at almost any price." -The Great War
Also, the Stormcloaks couldn't have beaten the Dominion back, because they didn't even exist until 40 years after the Great War...

Yay! Before this turns into the same serious killzone as the Imp VS Storm thread:
I go with Stormcloaks, did that on my first play through (which I play most) and I didn't wanna go with Hadvar. I was already captured with other Stormcloaks and Ulfric and well, I just liked that they felt like rebels. And I liked their armor more

As for what side I support, currently I am somewhere between undecided and neither. I am however trying to withhold my judgement to some extent, until I play both sides' quest lines all the way through.

Welcome and sorry to disagree. The empire controls all of tamriel, and they didn't surrender, they shred peace, as general Charles said.
The stormcloaks, on the other way, posses only one hold, and are plagued with violence and racism. Honestly I hate them. If I had to say why, I think it's because they remind me of Catalonia(where I'm from). Independentism everywhere, but in truth nothing more than racism and self interest in disguise.
