In 2010 a little underdog DS game called Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors won the hearts of critics and became a cult sensation, despite belonging to the most niche gaming genre in the Western world: the visual novel (though unlike most Japanese novels on game systems, 999 included playable elements that made it more of a game).

The attention and sales resulted in a sequel, Virtue's Last Reward, being published for both the 3DS and the Vita, as well as the series being branded Zero Escape and the original being reprinted under that title. That was in 2012. Since then there's been silence.

The third game appeared to have been canned, which was a major letdown, as Virtue's Last Reward did not resolve all its mysteries and contained a secret bonus chapter that was an intended prologue to the third game in the trilogy. It was starting to look like the only hope to see the actual ending was to start a Kickstarter, but thankfully, we won't have to resort to the Shenmue strategy this time.

At the Anime Expo in Los Angeles, Aksys Games announced Zero Escape 3 was on the way. All that was revealed was the above slide. There are no screenshots or plot details, and we don't even know what the subtitle is going to be, but WE'RE REALLY GETTING IT!

Zero Escape 3 will be released for 3DS and Vita in the summer of 2016.
