I believe Epic is next. I think on order to explain the Cat running off and leaving the dog, we can have the cat making an escape after Toxius and the Lupis going after Epic, only to lose him and go after the cat once it hears the noise coming from it.

    Frost Wolf
But... What I wrote was that Kat ran off first, leaving Eos with the pair of monsters. Obviously they would prefer to devour Eos first, then track down Kat's scent and devour her.
But I guess in that short period of time where the lupis disappeared and the cat was after Eos, then it was probably going after Kat before returning to Eos, or even that there could have been more than one lupis in the cage.
That would make sense, why just place one of each kind of monster in a cage. I mean, after all, shouldn't the den of horrors be their version of a zoo?

    "Obviously", huh?

Allow me to break it down like this. Did you forget about the whole "eat others to get stronger" "humans aren't particularly attractive" thing? And besides which, why would two rival top predators WORK TOGETHER?

I explain why the Cat would even break off after you in the first place because it was starving, and wanted the easy meal. The Lupis is big and slow, figured it had plenty of time to get you before turning and confronting the Lupis.

But what was the Lupis doing while the Cat slipped away? Now I have to explain that. Probably just going to write that it fell behind, being slower and dumber, but it would also be useful to Epic to save him the trouble of having to create his own monster. Whether there's one or two, it doesn't matter. Both can be explained and both make sense... although the two would look very different from each other due to the nature of the creatures changing so rapidly.

And yes there could most certainly be more than one, but keeping them in the same cage isn't exactly a good idea, as under the conditions they would likely eat each other.

Ouch. Didn't think it sounded that condescending and aggressive when I wrote it.. sorry. I assure you behind the keyboard I didn't mean to have that tone...

    Frost Wolf
Well I didn't forget about that whole devour to get stronger thing, I just figured Kat running off would be a sign of weakness towards the monsters, and obviously I know they won't work together. Just at least using each other to gain an advantage.

It's fine. It just depends on what Epic wants to do when he posts.

Wait, if they only eat things to get stronger, how can there be two dominant predators? Since it is operating on a logic the opposite of our world's evolution wouldn't that mean over time there would be only one dominant that slowly got weaker as everything else was also weaker?

I am a little confused by what you define as stronger as well probably.

Stronger just in general as bigger or stronger and such, or better adapted.

And yes, that's exactly right. That's why those creatures eventually go dormant or die out, and are consumed again by everything else.

Similar to how we don't know how old/big sharks can really get because they often would die of not being able to eat enough

    Seanu Reaves

I mean we can and do get an idea of how long they can live (strictly speaking that is a natural cause of death)

But the entire ecosystem is entirely in flux? With how specific ecosystems are in terms of diversity and balance. Seems like everything would just go extinct as there is no keystone species.

Yes but it stands that they could keep on growing older and older if they could just eat enough.

Well yeah, things change drastically or die out a lot. They just recover from it rapidly or change drastically really rapidly. There are SOME ecosystems that are stable and balanced, but these are usually exceptions to the rule here.

This is taking place relatively soon after the big god war thing, and not to mention that those beings liked to mess with things a lot. Magic to a large degree is fueling the rapid growth and change, and it's just out of control.

So it sounds like you're saying once a certain species eats a certain amount to become the dominant species they just go dormant or die out, but wouldn't they eventually just submit to their sense of hungry and eventually just go and eat the weaker species to avoid them becoming the dominant species?
What makes these beasts different from the intelligent species like humans, dwarves, elves and angelics? From which I mean, why don't they need to devour stuff to evolve. Why weren't the gods magic crazy on them? Why are they normal? Why can't one of those beasts eventually devour so much, and evolve so much that they eventually become "normal" as we so put it and they just need to eat to sustain themselves?

For starters, eating a weaker species wouldn't just automatically make them weaker, though it would be much less nourishing. They just wouldn't be able to fuel themselves with enough energy to stay active. Thus they can either go into dormancy in order to make the energy they do have last longer in an attempt to buy time, or simply keep on going until they inevitably die.

And some of them DO become highly intelligent, it's just they very seldom take on a humanoid form.

Demonics are part of the food chain, being wild spirited shape shifters they are almost a perfect fit for the world. They thrive on chaos and all.

The Angelics are part of that extreme amount of magic in the air, and thus a perfect fit on their own way. It's just their abilities come with a steeper price.

The Draconics are similar to the Demonics in that they fit in quite well, just not as well. Their love of violence means they see the loop of devouring others as somewhat of a challenge.

    The Shadoxen are unknowns.

Humans and such of course are out of place and only have the advantage that they seem to have a relative cloak of anonymity around them.

The reason why they do not "evolve" or change a great deal from devouring other beings, or at least the main reason, is that they were made or at least altered to be that way. They are almost direct products of the mad gods. Although a powerful enough Demonic can copy more than just physical form.

I've thought about what you said about blood and all by the way, and in the wake of Bloodborne I figured it wouldn't be too far fetched to have this be one of the Angelics research and experimental projects.

Well, anyone who's left, we have a few options.

We can either keep going and pick up new members to replace the people who are inactive or we can reboot.

I've seen Epic and Skies around the SB, but atm I you are the man Tox

    Toxius

    Frost Wolf
I've seen them around too, Epic is even rebooting her old rp (yet there's no time for this one).
    Haven't seen blackdoom.

So, it seems everybody is inactive from this thread and it just might be you and me. We haven't really gone far, and I really want to keep this going. Its a great idea.

So maybe just try to get hold of epic and skies, see if they come back, if not, just try the reboot option.

I've already gotten a hold of Epic. He said "Maybe". I never got the chance to ask Skies, but I will try today.

Also, whatever we do, we need to get the characters together ASAP. If we do reboot, I want us together by the end of everyone's intro.

Alright, I'm here if you need me. Sorry it took so long to post after I said that :p Like I said to you at the time, I'm not entirely sure where we left off, it all got a bit messy and confusing, to be honest.
