Since I'm a little rusty on the lore can you send me a link to this history of the Nords telling others what gods they can and cannot worship? Who were these Priests that they were burning to the steak? What religion were they worshiping?

This was our land. We were here first. Then the Nords came and put chains on us. Forbid us from worshipping our gods." - Madanach

Immediately thereafter the scribes wrote down the first new law of his reign: a fiery reinstatement of the traditional Nordic pantheon. The Edicts were outlawed, their priests put to the stake, and their halls set ablaze. - Five Songs of King Wulfhharth

While the Stormcloaks sole religion is Talos I do not see them pushing the other Divines to the side. I might be wrong, but I do not have to be pro Nord for me to be Pro Stormcloak.

I'm sure religious militants will be understanding and open minded to others worshipping something else. The Alessian Order had a sole religion, a religious military arm and well... Lets just say they weren't too friendly.

About the Priestess of Talos in Riften I wouldn't take her dialogue too seriously with regards to Mara. Everyone is overly emotional at this point. The Empire essentially surrendered to the Aldmeri Dominion to end the Great war at a great price of banning a popular religion that was the heart of the Empire itself. Everyone is on edge fearing what will come next.

It happened twenty six years ago. I would take her dialogue as a sign to come, that the other Divines will get pushed aside one way or another.

Who is this ethnic group you speak of? I assume you're talking about the Forsworn, right? The ethic group that goes around murdering innocent travelers? While I do not fully support the Silver-bloods I do support the concept of enslaving criminals for profit. The Forsworn do not have my sympathy, not a drop of tear. One Forsworn in particular said in the prison that if he gets out the first thing hes going to do is to kill a random Nord.

Except the Silver-Bloods are creating the Forsworn, many who were sent to that prison weren't Forsworn but they became it inside.

Enslaving criminals for profit doesn't make you better than the criminal, and what do you do when demand for silver increases and you need more prisoners? Just throw who you want in there next? That silver is your largest source of wealth, and people die all the time in TES prisons due to poor health and what not. So you'll require a constant flow of "criminals".

There is a huge difference between RL religion and the religion that takes place in The elders scrolls :) I don't need to explain much, but Elders scrolls gods are actually real considering the fictional gods in real life ;) I wont speak much on that matters because I would be sure to offend the religious people here ;)

Elder Scrolls Gods are all aspects of each other. You don't need to scream about them and force them onto anyone who can hear you. Worshipping quietly is quite a good practice.

Though RL religion... Can't we get a Concordat on them?

Ok so now I'm confused. Are you telling me that the Forsworn was here first? Before the Snow elves? I thought the Snow elves was here first, and that the Nords conquered them into submission thus gaining the right to call Skyrim Nordric land? Did something happen that I'm not aware of? What did Madanach ancestors do to rightfully call the Reach their land? The Reach is part of Skyrim; A Nord land. Madanach is a Breton. He should be focus on calling a piece of land in High rock his instead of invading Nordic land.

No the Silver-Bloods are not creating the Forsworn. What created them was in fact the Empire to which they've hired a Nordic militia to retake back Markarth. The Silver-bloods happens to own the prison inside Markarth. That is it. The Jarl (An Imperial/Empire supporter) seems to be quite content to what is going on so can you truly blame the family for the enslavement? No you cannot, not while the Jarl allows it. Markarth is under Imperial control after all.

As far as those who weren't forsworn prior to being arrested was caught associating with a known Forsworn therefor they're guilty of being one themselves in the eye of the law. Remember Imperial law? Guilty until proven innocent. That's your Imperial law.

Not agreeing with Mage however it's well known in ESO; 2nd ERA; DC Questline the Reachmen come from Skyrim. They did about as much as the Nords did.

Elder Timeline and what I've read from lore seems to suggest Skyrim has always been co-inhabited. As such, Skyrim has always been home to many 'tribes' over the years, including your beloved Nords. Interesting how the Nords righteous zeal faded away next to the Dwarves. Pity the Snow Elves were so brutalized, the Falmer are a curse now on the land due to the Companion's blood lust.

In a way, the Falmer are "Nord Tradition". :) Think I'll just stay in the Isles thank you.

What's good about this, is the Imperials have actually learned something from the WGC. Perhaps I was wrong before, it's not the Stormcloaks who will have a lasting impact on the Empire, it's the Thalmor. I like this "White-Gold" Empire concept and find it very appealing.

Nords time has come and gone, not soon enough. Thank Auri-El the slave masters and drunken anarchists have competition in Skyrim.

The Nords didn't conquer every part of Skyrim that you see right away. You have to remember that borders and regions change over time depending on political climate.

The "Reach" whose borders have never really been defined until now, were controlled by Reachmen. Wasn't until Empress Hestra in the First Era that they were finally conquered and then again reconquered with Nords and Tiber's forces in the late Second Era.

Though there is evidence of early Nords within the Reach, historically they've never been a majority.

Madanach is a Reachmen. Reachmen are primarily descended from Bretons, but there is a mix of every race including some Nordic. Hence why Bretons consider Reachmen to be a "mongrel breed". Though in mentioning that the Nords themselves have expanded into areas of High Rock before, and parts of the Reach were in fact part of the province of High Rock.

Skyrim's borders change constantly throughout the Eras, so what you call Nord land might be less or more in later years.

The Silver-Bloods are causing the Forsworn to gain numbers, many who are sent to the prison become Forsworn. The Silver-Bloods own the prison, own majority of the businesses, own the guards and are technically the bank of Skyrim. I don't care what Igmund allows or doesn't allow, he has little power in that city.

Imperial control is a very loose term, Markarth is currently loyal to the Empire but they do not serve nor have they ever served Imperials. Markarth would be loyal to the High King/Queen who they would directly serve, only indirectly are they sworn to the Emperor.

You do have Tullius' Agent snooping about trying to get the deed to the prison anyway.

As far as those who weren't forsworn prior to being arrested was caught associating with a known Forsworn therefor they're guilty of being one themselves in the eye of the law. Remember Imperial law? Guilty until proven innocent. That's your Imperial law.

If you honestly believe everyone thrown into that prison was "caught" associating or "guilty" of something then you're really being blind there. You yourself get framed and thrown into jail for upsetting the Silver-Bloods.

Guilty until proven innocent is the basis of Tamriel law, it predates the Third Empire. It is up to Holds if they want to keep it or not.

Edit: In mentioning that you made me re-read that Legal Basics book, and I think I found the answer as to why Lokir is executed (You used to mention him a bit) These are the usual, day-to-day definitions used by legal experts (like myself), but both the definitions and punishments may fluctuate wildly according to location and situation.

Though we should use it loosely as that book was made more for Daggerfall than anything else, since you could get sent to court and be on trial for your crimes.

Okay I've been seeing this threat on trending for quite some time, but I never posted because it's over 20.000 post allready., but here I go. By the way, I didn't bother reading the posts because there are so many so I'm probably gonna say stuff that's already been said.

First if all, if I had to join someone, I'd join the Thalmor, 'cause I haaaaate both the imperials and the stormcloaks, and here's why.

The imperials are a great empire, with cultural diversity, advanced civilization, money... But they're weak as hell. Not only could the Thalmor beat them, they also were forced to forbid the cult to their own founder!

The stormcloaks are honorable warriors who fight for their homeland, great right? Except they got it all wrong. Nobodies invading their land, and having different races in the same country isn't bad. Also they're weak as hell.

The Thalmor are a bunch of Nazis, but they are damn powerful. So powerful they can make an empire bow and keep like it was nothing.

Imperials. I like the centurion-styled armour and the more diverse nature of the army, whereas the Stormcloaks only really accept Nords - there are varied races involved with the Imperials, and if you don't usually play as a Nord, the Imperial Legion is the way to go. :) The quest lines have very similar objectives, but ultimately it is down to personal preference.:Dragonborn:

Wow, it's amazing to see how far this thread has lasted, it's been well over a year since I last posted in here. But whether we're Imperial or Stormcloak supporter, we must remember one... important... thing...

THIS THREAD WAS STARTED BY A MEMBER OF THE THALMOR!!!
ThalmorJusticiar11.jpg

Clearly it's a plot to rile up the forum so then they can manipulate the place behind the scenes as all attention is focused here!!!

So it's been a few years and I'm replaying the whole game as a powerful mage this time around and I remembered this thread. This time I payed more attention to every encounter with the Thalmor and Jesus.. if I had any doubt about choosing Stormcloak before I have no doubt in my mind now. It's clear they are the only 'sane' people with clear and achievable agenda and that the Thalmor are nothing more than a bunch of Nazis and the Empire is Neville Chamberlain's England..

Ondolemar, the Thalmer in Markarth:

"We're the ruling body of the Aldmeri Dominion. Saviors of Mer. Victors of the Great War."

"The Empire exists because we allow it to exist, and I'm here to make sure the Jarl of Markarth remembers that."

"We intend to prove the superiority of Mer over Man, one century at a time."

"It's a religious matter. The Thalmor do not recognize Talos as a god. He was only a man, and does not deserve a place in our pantheon. The Empire has agree to accept our beliefs, and its citizens have a responsibility to cease their heretical worship."

"There is peace now, and that peace will continue for as long as it suits our needs. But make no mistake, this is not a peace forged out of necessity between rival nations of equal strength. It is more like the calm between storms. And the next storm, I think, will be far deadlier than the last."

And what the Empire do about this? Nothing. For almost three decades they do nothing. Well, not nothing. They let Thalmor agents to run around the Empire and torture and murder people for worshiping their God. People who try to argue that the Empire is "rebuilding" are naive as hell, if the Empire was rebuilding and making itself stronger the people close to the Emperor wouldn't have want his assassination. They want it because they know that the game is almost up, the Thalmor are getting ready to strike again and the Empire is doing nothing.

Meanwhile at the Stormcloaks camp, Galmar Stone-Fist:

"Not this Empire. The world's better without it. Certainly Skyrim is. I fought in the Imperial army, in the war against the Dominion; I bled and spilt blood for the Empire. And for what? The Empire to bend its knee before those evil Elf bastards? Signing a treaty meant to kill the heart of the Empire itself? To deny Talos? No, I will have no part in any such Empire, and I will gladly gut anyone who says otherwise."

"I oppose tyrany. I oppose those who tell me how to live, what to think, and what to believe. I am a man. Skyrim is man's homeland. That is a fact, a fact I'm proud of. There is no shame in that. Read your history."

"First, we'll kick the Thalmor and their bloody Imperial puppets out of the country. Then, we will rebuild Skyrim into the land she once was. When we are done with that, we will take our army to the Dominion, and show those pointy-eared bastards not every man is fit to be their slave."

Players have basically these options--

Imperials: Bite the sour apple for a while and then strike back

Stormcloaks: Self-destruct out of spite

Or

Stormcloaks: Bang on about honour and pride and be foul towards any non-Nords, wanting a rogue as High King.
Take whatever armour you can find in your wardrobe.

Imperials:
Live by a simple oath, and attack with grace and discipline, surrounded by heroics and comradery.
Equip a hand-crafted masterpiece as your armour, akin to what your brothers in arms and the (Roman) soldiers of old would wear into battle.

Which would YOU side with?

The Stormcloaks are too blind to even stop and work out they're being herded under Ulfric's banners. Their rebellion wouldn't have even got this far without the indirect aid they're getting from the Thalmor.

Ulfric can barely handle the weakest the Empire has to offer. Fighting Auxiliaries with little reinforcements, few supplies and who lost a major garrison at the start of the game. His martial ability leaves much to be desired given the fact he's been captured twice by his enemies. Hell, the Thalmor had to show up at Helgen to try and save his ass.

Though I'm sure he'll somehow lead the people to victory without a mythical hero. Empire nearly ended the rebellion without any Dragonborn, and in the long run they'd have recaptured/defeated Ulfric once Pale Pass was open again.

Then we have the Stormcloaks trading the Empire's economy to relying on slave labor of an ethic group for wealth.

"From the Imperial City, our war here is just a sideshow. An interlude before the main event against the Thalmor resumes." - Tullius

Stormcloaks are a distraction at best, offering only illusions to those who want to shut their eyes and believe the Thalmor will go away because the Stormcloaks reject the White-Gold Concordat.

They let Thalmor agents to run around the Empire and torture and murder people for worshiping their God.

While the Stormcloaks merely caused thousands to be killed in the Civil War, weakened the province enough to allow bandits to gain a massive foothold where people are tortured and murdered regardless of religion. Ironically Eastmarch is home to the largest and most organized bandit group in Skyrim who do exactly what the Thalmor Justiciars are doing and don't care if you worship Talos or not. Screwing up the worship of other Gods because the Priests are too busy with wounded civilians caught in the crossfire, opening themselves up the possibility of a Daedric Plague and Falmer invasion of the surface.

Also causing mass starvation, scarce supplies and forcing many merchants and traders to leave or plan to leave Skyrim.

Assassinating the Emperor has nothing to do with the Empire rebuilding, the Emperor is a political figurehead who has the power of Veto in Imperial Politics. Civil and Military rebuilding would happen anyway, Cyrodiil/High Rock had problems following the end of the war order had to be restored. General Tullius mentions that majority of the Legion is on the Dominion's border preparing for the next fight.

The Elder Council wanting the assassination of Titus II is a smart political move with Hammerfell and even Skyrim blaming Titus II. It will also send shockwaves throughout the Empire causing them to be up in arms, which is why Ulfric refuses to attack Solitude while the Emperor is visiting.

I would hardly say the Empire is doing nothing, Imperials are quite the planners for war or I should say wars as they do mention having a staging ground into Morrowind just in case. So it looks to me like the Imperials are securing their borders for a new military campaign.

"Skyrim's days are darkening, and the Legion will soon be called into service like never before." - Legates

Hell of a lot more than the Stormcloaks who are relying on everyone leaving them alone to rebuild. Skyrim being the weakest it has been since the First Era, without allies and protected by poorly trained militia? I wouldn't be surprised if the Dunmer, Bretons and Redguards decide they want a slice of Skyrim. The Nords always liked to invade them while they were weak, stealing parts of their lands. Stormcloaks calling the Orc Strongholds an affront to their people might be a sign of some possible conflict.

The Stormcloaks are too blind to even stop and work out they're being herded under Ulfric's banners. Their rebellion wouldn't have even got this far without the indirect aid they're getting from the Thalmor.

No doubt they will also be brought to their knees by the Thalmor. They even managed to kill Potentate Ocato in the Imperial City, and they already have a network of spies in Skyrim - they'll let Ulfric enjoy his extra-padded seat and then have him assassinated to bring Skyrim down once again. That would also be the smartest move should the Empire decide to attack first; this way Skyrim's Jarls will need their armies to fight against each other once more.

No matter how you twist and turn it, Stormcloaks are a disaster waiting to happen.

The issue with the Stormcloaks is the level of instability. Each of the Jarls have quite different views for the future of Skyrim, and the only thing holding them together is Ulfric himself and he dies 50% of the time. Winterhold wants more authority, Morthal wants Riften, and Markarth wants more military priority.

Ulfric and Galmar dying would ruin the Stormcloaks, the other Jarls are worthless and mostly inept at ruling. They'd hardly agree to a new leader without violence due to the conflicting nature of Nords. Most followed Ulfric after he killed Torygg, following the strong.

The problem that Stormcloak supporters aren't seeing is that they're a short term solution. The Nords never remain united independently under one ruler, they either go back to infighting between Holds or the province splits into two kingdoms.
