The Shogun of Gaming
Hello everyone! Skies here with a new forum group/activity.

Chess, that game everyone has a vague understanding of. A really old game that is just great for motifs. Anyway, this thread is for anyone who is interested in playing this classic game with others on the forum.

Go to Chess.com and make a free account.

Once you get registered post your profile name or even page here.

For Example: my account is SeanuReaves

Once you add people on the forum, you can challenge them to a game. There are two ways to play Live and Online.

Live is obviously real time chess and goes by much quicker, for those who are busier (or take longer to think, like me) you can opt for online, where you can set the time allowed between moves (up to 2 weeks) and play a slower more methodical game.

If we get enough people we were thinking of establishing a tournament, as well as an exalted "Faction Wars" were each member on the forum can pick a team.

The Teams could be: Imperials, Stormcloaks, The Companions, The Mage's College, The Thieves Guild, The Dark Brotherhood, The Dawnguard, Castle Vokihar, Thalmor, Silver Hand, Greybeards, The Blades and The Forsworn.

The amount of factions depends on the participation, as well as what people want to do especially as we have team captains and such.

So please if you have any thoughts or suggestions, post them and let's make this a thing.

Well, there seems to be a high amount of rage quits (can't find a better word right now) when you eat (is that how you say it in English?) their Queen.

Currently lost one embarrassingly quickly and then won two by forfeit. Name is leepdroon

So I have been realizing as we have been playing together, that I am a terrible closer. My basic strategy has a lot of issues, but if it is super close, I can't figure out how to get that checkmate. This has been a consistent problem because it means I usually need to have a landslide victory to even attempt checkmate most of the time. Leading me to losing matches because I can't quite get that kill.

It seems really hard for me to establish that checkmate, though I can do most other aspects of the game well.

Any tips or things I should be looking for?

Well, when I gain an advantage, all I do is make sure that I can take as many pieces from my enemy for free as possible. Instead of losing one to take down two or more, I prefer taking care of only 1 pawn (if that's all I can get), without losing anything. Kind of a "Slow and steady we conquer" Spectre quote from FR. Instead of rushing to victory and throwing caution out of the window, take your time.

If momentum shifts are your weakness (our first game, kinda), you might want to make sure your opponent never gets a chance of getting one of those, by playing more cautiously. That's not to say you should always do that. Your aggressive strategy seems to work fine at the beginning, but once you get an advantage, it might be best to slow down and weaken your opponent gradually.

Alright, thank you. That makes sense. So start aggressive and as time goes on slow it down and make sure there aren't any holes in my movements.

At least that's what I think. I might be very wrong since I don't even have a proper strategy of my own.

You can very well be passive for almost the whole game, I just had the idea that you liked to play aggressive at first

I'm pretty much strategy-less. I just do lol. I won the first match against Skies, but the next one he totally out-played me. I'm now just scared what he'll pull off in this match

Hey guys I want to start putting together a ladder. So please when you start a new game post it here and then later who won.

E.G. Skies vs Rednek
Dawnguard vs Mythic Dawn

Well, I am currently in one vs Red and another against you, Skies.

Do those already count or do they need to be 100% new?

And I just pick one faction for me to represent?
