T. Rakinson

A Brute among Beasts
Just gonna start off with this- don't turn this into a Civil War debate thread. It's been 3 years since the game came out, and at this point I doubt anybody either cares or is going to change their mind, so NO debating.

Anybody have any good memories of their playthrough of the questline? Maybe you rode/flew around on a horse or dragon. Or perhaps you cleaved your way through a line of soldiers with your battleaxe. Ever sneak your way past a whole battalion? Let's hear some stories!

At the Battle of Whiterun (Imperial side) I sat back and watched my Armoured Troll plough through a cluster of rebels. He looked so happy... well, maybe didn't LOOK happy, but I suspect he was enjoying himself.
On the last fort Battle before Solitude, I was retreating from a hail of arrows, when the deep booming voice of Meridia fills my head, because I got too close to Killreath ruins. Nearly pooped myself.

My first playthrough of the part of the Battle for Whiterun after you report to the Jarl of Whiterun and he sends me to report to Legate Quinten Cipius as the Stormcloaks arrive went like this:

Legate Quinten: Wait, I know you!
Me: Yes, I'm the legendary Dragonborn who saved Whiterun from the dragon attack, was part of the team instrumental in recovering the Jagged Crown and was trusted by General Tullius himself to deliver a message to Whiterun...
Legate Quinten: No, you're that elf who dropped a sword eight levels ago that ended up being charged with a breach of the peace because you decided to be a smart aleck when a guard told you off for leaving dangerous weapons lying around. You're under arrest.
Me: Seriously? Whiterun is under imminent attack and you're prioritising my petty crime record? You're making a mistake...
Legate Quinten: No mistake. You're a wanted woman and it's time to pay for your crimes.
Me: Fine, here's twenty septims. Now can we please deal with the Stormcloak army and their catapults who are currently right outside the gates of Whiterun?
Legate Quinten: I have to pat you down for stolen items first.
Me: Is it too late to join the Stormcloaks?

When I plan to do the Civil War questline on a character, I almost always add the Civil War Overhaul mod, because vanilla CW is meh.

I reloaded the Battle for Solitude (well, the entire Haafingar campaign as well) who knows how many times, because Alduin kept showing up and causing everyone - including Ulfric and Galmar - to be stuck in combat mode even after all the enemies were killed.

A couple times I've been the only one attacking Morthal, so I've simply ridden my horse back and forth, slaughtering Imperials without having to worry about hitting friendlies. :p

One time Tullius told me off for "fleeing the battlefield" after I'd pursued fleeing Stormcloaks at Whiterun.

Getting the documents during "A False Front" is always fun. I like coming up with some way to get the courier killed without touching him myself. One time I led an Imp all the way to Rorikstead, where he was promptly executed by the Stormcloak guards. :D

The Battle of Gettysburg was considered the turning point in the war, and is arguably the most memorable battle.

Wait, wrong Civil War. Right. Skyrim. I knew that.

I always thought Tullius to be a more tactical and resourceful general than Ulfric or Galmar, but the latter two are more combat-ready and assault-oriented. Therefore, memorable moments on each side kind of differ for me. Korvanjund is a fun dungeon since you technically don't need to fight at all if you're hideously unprepared, and you're lauded for your good efforts anyway. The battles are meh and redundant, but I always liked fighting in Whiterun for some reason, mainly because it was the most critical city over the course of the war due to its neutrality.

One time the Stormcloak Courier charged in and saved me from a pack of ice wolves and a dragon who had me in serious trouble, and after he'd saved my life I felt I couldn't kill him. So I pickpocketed him instead.

The son of a bitch sent Hired Thugs after me.

He wasn't even the only Stormcloak Courier who sent Hired Thugs after me after being pickpocketed. One appeared after I slept in the Nightgate Inn and didn't look like moving anytime soon. I didn't want to kill the innkeeper who I liked, so when it became obvious she was just going to stand there munching bread indefinitely I had to resort to pickpocket again.

I once made an Imperial, (the only Imperial that I've made), and the first thing she did after escaping Helgen was make her way to Solitude to join the Legion. She used only Imperial equipment. She was killed by a bear along the way, and some bandits that tricked her into following one of them... Since she was so low level, the battles were difficult; she had to repeatedly fall back to allow some health to regenerate, but never left the battle field. The battle of Windhelm was especially crusty, but the satisfaction was glorious. She struck Ulfic in his chair, mid-dialog so that he would actually get up and fight instead of being terminated in one blow.

STORMCLOAKS SUCK!

... Oh, wrong type of Civil War thread

I've only ever done the Civil War quests a few times, generally leave it alone. I suppose my fondest memory was loading up a character mid-battle for a fort, forgetting which side I was on and ended up killing my guys.

After getting the Dawnguard DLC all I did in battle was summon Durnehviir and watch hundreds of Stormcloaks being roasted. Those few battles that I decided to do some fighting myself, well, they lasted maybe 5 minutes.

My favorite memory from the civil war was my very first assault on Windhelm.
My first play through, I did the civil war first, and was a sneaky character, so I was woefully not suited for a full frontal assault.
Luckily the frost dragon that appeared cleared a path for me. XP

You seem a decent fellow. I hate to die.
Don't recall where it was, but I stumbled upon an Imperial camp. I do remember snow on the ground, if that helps (probably not). Playing a sneaky Khajiit archer, just started picking them off one by one. Change location after they tried looking for me. From there? Wash, rinse, repeat. Until it was just me, the snow, and a whole lotta lootin' goin' on. :beermug:
