Are you playing on a PC, Xbox or PS3?

Is this your first time playing the game on your PC?

Please post your PC hardware (CPU, system memory and graphics card) as well as your operating system.

Generally speaking a black screen with the game still running often means your video card's graphics processing for the game is hanging.

What are your settings for the game (including screen resolution)? Is this your first time playing the game on this PC?

This is something that can happen when glitching out of whiterun (at least on PS3).

Try re-installing the game, maybe you have a corrupt file somewhere?

He's not on a PS3 and he's not "glitching" out of whiterun (whatever that means).

ShadowmoonValken, your laptop doesn't have a video card and, depending on the Intel HD graphics chipset you have, it may not be capable of running Skyrim. As I mentioned above a black screen with the game still running probably means your graphics processing is hanging (because of the weak graphics processing chipset). If you're not already playing on the lowest possible settings with the lowest possible resolution you should try lowering the graphics settings and resolution.

Try this website to see if you can run Skyrim.

Can You RUN It | Can I run that game | Game system requirements

Note: It's been known to misread your video card as a different video card. So once you get the result, double check to see if the card it read is indeed the same as what you have.

If you don't know your exact graphics card, you should be able to check it by from the "Device Manager" program under "Display Adapters"

He's not on a PS3 and he's not "glitching" out of whiterun (whatever that means).

I'm just saying that's something known to happen that could have something to do with the skyrim files (for any system). Just an idea if everything else he's trying is failing.

is on lowest settings doesn't help, and i can run it according to that site... i can't find anything wrong with it... AND DON'T CALL ME A HE! geesh... even if i understand the possible confusion, i don't have any fun trying to get back to Facebook to proove i'm a girl everytime someone claims i aint...

That site isn't 100% reliable. What is your frame rate speed prior to this happening?

Try tweaking the settings for Skyrim lower to see if it makes a difference. Lower the resolution to 800x600 if you haven't already done that. Then edit your Skyrimprefs file (you can search for it in the search box of your Windows Start Menu) to turn off shadows and turn down spell effects:

[Display]
fShadowDistance=0.0000
fInteriorShadowDistance=0.0000
fShadowLODStartFade=0.0000

[Particles]
iMaxDesired=200

it goes black screen just when i start making my char, i got on absolute lowest possible, and even tried once with deactivating Dawnguard, that works, but then i can't use Dawnguard... idk whats wrong... it aint AP, cuz i'd need a Pirated for that... Steam sucks big time with their failed Support too, they just claim i should reinstall and when i told i done that, "reset the graphics" done it, "Reinstall?" that was the first they said "Well then we can't help you, because you can't have bought it from us" What? so my payment and the download i got on my Steam wasn't Skyrim?! "well reinstall and the problem should disapear."
