Sex. Is your Character the opposite of you?

Well, yes. Playing as a woman in gaming just feels kinda awkward, unless I'm playing a game online and I want other players to know that I am a female. Although it does get pretty annoying after a while…

Random player: "Whoa, you're a girl?"
Me: "Yeah, so?"
Random player: "Are ya hot?"
Me: "…." *leaves lobby, gets friend request moments later* "… Nope." *deletes*

I prefer to play as a male (in most games) just so I can ogle over my man's charming good-looks, haha. What can I say I enjoy having something nice to look at. :D
So... Are you hot? ........Just kidding!

I've never played a female character. I don't know it just would feel wierd. I kind of get into the "this character represents me" aspect of the game. And I want to be the hero! I picture myself running or riding across the landscape killing the enemy and riding the world or evil. Playing the opposite sex wouldn't allow me to be the hero but a girl. I don't know just kind wierd that way.

My badass male orc is an all rounder but I am thinking of creating a female alongside him just for the experience -- get your mind out of the gutter ;) -- so both characters will probably be all rounders but my female nord will be HOT!! :)

Haha, well to be frank, I kinda have a cute aspect because I'm small and have a high voice. I personally wouldn't say that I'm hot, other guys might though.

I understand. Plenty of people feel the same as you when it comes to roleplaying.

I don't really play online games (e.g ESO ) - I am lonely -- jk ;) but I am in the state of mind that the character doesnt really have to represent you. Some may call it weird but it is only weird I think if you make it weird. Also some people create characters which look nothing like them (e.g. A khajitt or an orc) but noone calls this weird do they??

For me, when I come across games where I get to pick to be a female, I usually am very interested in creating one, looking at their abilities in comparison to other characters - my first character in Borderlands 2 was the Siren as she was the most interesting, infact she's my only character on it!

Actually really refreshing for blokes like me who are so tired of being thrown with this deselectable male for the past 10 years of gaming and get to be a female warrior if they so wish it.

More and more games, though only recently, have started appearing with either playable female protaganists, or female characters that have crucial roles to play in regards to narrative - Anya & Sam in Gears of war 3, Ellie in The Last of Us, Tomb Raider (New one), Maggie, Caira, Val in Evolve.

But it is a slow movement, because its like once every 3 games will I see relatable down to earth female characters with personality and purpose, not just as some eye candy for the male viewers.

I even participated in the AC: Unity Female Protaganist Petition on Change.org, because its resonated with my personal feelings.

(Not a rant, nor directed at anyone)

Great thread btw!

I really like about Skyrim that there is really no difference in the abilities if female and male chars. So I can be a warhammer-wielding badass fighter woman who is just as strong as all the huge male warriors out there!
Likewise, my male beefcake ;-) (yet to be created) can be a pure mage user and milkdrinker and no one will bother. That's just Skyrim's amazing freedom.

I do think the freedom of choice in skyrim is awesome (from your skill sets to your race and gender). But there are some people who think the only choices acceptable during the character creation are the options that make the character look like you. I disagree. It's not like Skyrim is an online game and the only person who can make it weird and uncomfortable are the creators of the character themselves. Noone else can unless you tell them. :)

BIG NEWS!!! Hot Chick is now married! But not to a guy lol. I just didn't think I could handle all the "Dear"'s said in a man's voice... lol.. It's actually one of the cool things about Skyrim, you don't have to marry someone of the opposite sex.

I don't have any opposite gendered characters at the moment. That's not because I'm against having them - it's just because I have my hands full with my other 7 characters. lol
That said, I do plan to eventually make a male character, maybe even more than one. For example, I've been considering re-doing my Khajiit master thief Gypsy Moon as a male character. Partly because I can never seem to make decent looking female Khajiits, and partly because I'm having a hard time relating to her at the moment. For some odd reason I think making her male would add a certain charm that's just missing right now, if that makes sense. To me, a thief has to be charming in some sense. How else can they talk people out of their coin or talk guards into letting them go? :/
Besides that, I've thought of making a big brute male Nord warrior. Just to be able to go and smash things and feel like the Skyrim version of the Hulk. :p
But yeah, I'll be making some male characters soon enough in other words. And I have nothing against others who do. It's all role playing to me. :)

I never really thought about this, I just pick male characters probably because, when I set up a new one I've gone with what feels natural. Visually it wouldn't really matter because I only play in 1st person.

That said, amidst encouragement from friends I created a female warlock in Destiny. So the sad juvenile (don't know what age, but still juvenile) who offered to join my fireteam to help level my character up got a surprise when he required payment to do this in the form of a picture of my boobs. No doubt mine are hairier than his.

Female Khajiit and Argonians creep me out, so if I'm playing that race, it's always male. I always seem to play male Altmer, too. Other races, though, I stick with female, my own gender. I've tried a few male Nords and Bretons and such, but, I don't know, it just doesn't feel right.

I always pick the opposite gender and play the game. It's fun, it allows me to imagine what it's like to be a girl, and if I'm forced to stare at an ass in third-person the whole time let it at least be a girls, y'know?
But I digress, it's fun to see the game in a different perspective, which is nice.

The Elf character male, I have is the opposite of me and real strong also good with the ladies and able to be confident as well when dealing with different sorts of people in the game. I have done a female as well and make her good looking, and try and make her realistic and enjoy watching her doing battle and the voice can be appealing to listen to which is interesting while playing the game. I enjoy the variety of characters you can play as and also how the game, let's you choose the gender, too and the longest gameplay was with a female vampire which was exciting.

I love making all sorts of builds cause none of them are like me if they were like me they would be almost ogre mixed with yeti and would be a barbarian but all of my builds are more human looking and handsome and charming and all that stuff

My first and longest played character is a female. Mainly because who doesn't love a badass woman :) I don't immerse myself into the story, in the sense of putting myself in the game. "What would I do?"

so it doesn't really matter what gender I play. I make a character and create a story for that character.
True. It really doesn't matter what race or sex I play as. Not like I'm actually ever going to become an important person with rich friends who owns a nice house with servants and a strong husband in real life.
