Since I started playing i always make my characters consistent. Some characters are exclusive to certain guilds and as much as possible i avoid factions that contrasts their skills. I had a warewolf female dragonborn who specializes in one handed, light armor and restoration. Her factions are Companions/Blades/Dawnguard. The other one is an orc nightblade, specializes in illusion, sneak, alteration and has both affiliations with the college and dbh. I downloaded a mod that lets tolfdir become the archmage instead of the pc. My orc is much more invested in murdering people.

There are also rules that i have to apply whenever i roleplaying, such as, no looting/stealing unless you have to (quest related items/ potions when in near death) if i'm playing a lawful character. No involvements with the daedra, if i were to roleplay a priest. Zero detection if i wish to play as a master assassin or thief.

Some mods can enhance the immersion of you gamplay. Alternate start is my personal favorite, and npc knockout overhaul if you'r playing a good character who detests murder.

NPC knockout sounds interesting, haven't heard of that one before! Seems like a mod I'd really like to have, I'll look into it right away.

I also kinda fell in love with the Heljarchen Farm mod, haven't tried it out because I don't knwo which character would be perfect for it, but the idea just seems sooooo cool

^ also there's Sneak tools mod, for thief/assassin playthroughs. Lets you give a bunch of tools for, well, sneaking. I think this one has a knockout mod installed.

Alrighty, I have one more character to present (just because):

My Other Character:
Male Bosmer Thief - Talandriel (lvl 54)

General Appearance:
Taller than most bosmers, and has a lean, yet muscular build. Complexion is fairy dark. Has light brown hair, shaped into a mohawk, he also has a light circle beard. He is blind in both eyes. (Sorry if the picture appears too bright or dark)

Weapons and Armor:
Bosmer Elder Armor Pack - including Short Blades and a Hunting Bow (from a mod)

Personality:
Talandriel mostly keeps to himself, and only speaks to others when necessary. Even though his home is located in the city of Whiterun, he prefers the presence of nature and spends most of his time out in the wilderness… and in unsuspected homes. He takes advantage of his assumed decency because of his blindness, and enjoys stealing, though he prefers targeting big-ticket valuables rather than personal possessions. He follows a noble thief persona; never steal and betray those who are close to you, and don't rob the poor, unless specific circumstances are met.

Favored Shouts:
Throw Voice
Disarm
Animal Allegiance

Guilds and Other Affiliations:
Thieves Guild (Guildmaster)
Nightingales

Homes:
Native Home: Southpoint - Valenwood
Current Home: Breezehome (modded) - Whiterun - Skyrim

Fighting Style:
He prefers to attack long-range, scoping out his enemies with a bow and arrow, concealing his presence within the shadows whenever possible. If he is dealing with his opponent in close quarters, and has not been spotted, he will quickly and quietly slit their throats. Or, if by chance he is discovered, he tips his blades with paralyzing poison, since he is quite proficient in the field of alchemy.

(And I'm not gonna bother with a backstory at the moment, so there you have it!)

Hmm, I'll try using one of my other screenshots.

Level 40 Altmer
Lord of the Volkihar, Arch-Mage, Listener.
Thane of Hjaalmarch.
Dual Wielder, Poisoner, Necromancer, Illusionist.
Not a Dragonborn. I'm hauling all three elder scrolls AND the Dragonstone.

Two more under the cut/Spoiler tag:
Made an Orc too. Mage and Thane of Whiterun. I've only just met the Augur on this one. Joined the Companions too, but have only gotten so far as taking Vilkas sword. I'm "taking care" of it before I bring it to Eorlund. Pure magic user, but I whip this sword out when I run out of magicka, so a bit of one-handed as well. This is my only character who's a Companion... Guess I'll get to it eventually, see how the questline goes. I've slain Grelod too, tho I haven't slept a wink since. Might join the Dark Brotherhood, rid the world of relatively evil people a little. Think I'd try to side with the Dawnguard with this one as well.

And I've recently started playing with my first character again, from when the game first came out. It's a Level 14 Altmer, Dragonborn and Legate. Heavy Armor and Two Handed, bec why the hell not. My only dragonborn who's gone to see the Greybeards, I've reloaded this old file so I can meet Miraak. Also, I've gotten as far as recruting three Blades but I won't slay Party Snacks. Long live Party Snacks.

Things I ought to try on future characters:
I've never played the Thieves Guild questline. (I don't like Brand-Shei rotting in a cell, and I much prefer Brynjolf peddling his wares at the market.)
I have also ever learned how to use a shield.

I've also never learned how to use a shield, and it's definitely on my to do list!
As for Bran Shei dude rotting in his cell - yesterday I was playing my thieves guild character and was hanging around in the prison area pickpocketing stuff off the guards, among those things the prison key. When I came across the dude's cell I was very tempted to let him out. No idea if he'd be free or if the guards would beat both of us up though. Maybe it's worth a try? Might soothe your guilt towards the poor fella and enable you to play the quest line. Thieves guild is kinda cool - useful gear, interesting people. The quest line, like all of them, is way too short and too easy, but I feel very comfortable around the people. The ones roaming the cistern are real sweethearts.

there is a way to join the thieves guild and still have that awesome elf at his stand
Fail the pickpocket and you will still be offered to join and Brand-Shei will still be at his stall

Khajit assasin spcialized in one hit kills and pissing off guards.

He finished both the DB and the thieves guild questlines and bought a hoise in whiterun as a hideout if things get ugly. He married a riverwood merchant only out of interest so that he could eran some free coin from time to time. He's very ambitiuos and seeks nothing but power, so he's always learning new ways of "taking care" of enemies. He has recently joined the mages college to learn more about illusion and be able to easily run away from fights if things get really ugly.
He became a werewolf to be able to fight lots of opponents at a time and has started learning alchemy, always following the assasination tricks he learned from the DB. He joined the companions for a short because he thought joining a highly respected guilg like them would give them power, but right at they're most critical moment, he left them. They didn't fullfill him, and they certainly didn't follow his way of the assasin. He promised himself to finish them off once he finishes his magic training

My most consistent character is a female Nord, Annika, who is the main character of my fanfic. She is an archer, a healer, and an accomplished Dragonborn. She uses no weapons but bows and Shouts. On group missions, she often heals allies instead of attacking the enemy. She is a Stormcloak soldier and one of Ulfric's most trusted allies.

She was born and raised in Kynesgrove. Her father, a miner, died when she was four years old; her mother was a village herbalist. Annika took to the bow and arrow very early on, and helped provide for her family by hunting. When Annika was 17, her mother and younger sister were killed in a bandit raid, after which Annika left Skyrim to forge a new life abroad. She spent time in Hammerfell, Cyrodiil, and Elsweyr before settling in Valenwood, where she lived for some years. Upon hearing of the civil war in Skyrim, however, she decided to return home to fight for Ulfric Stormcloak, whom she had considered her hero since their paths crossed twenty years before.

In-game, I've played the major quests that are part of my fanfic, but I've also taken her on other quests that aren't in the story at all. I'd get bored playing her, otherwise. I try to keep her in line with my own canon, though; for instance, she hasn't joined any factions besides the Stormcloaks, but I will have her do side quests in Eastmarch, and anything related to restoration, and she's hunted down quite a few dragons and dragon priests (I'm aiming to get every single Shout with her). I've had her max out smithing in order to make a dragonbone bow and dragonscale armor, which are made for her in my fanfic, but then made the skill legendary so she's properly hopeless in smithing. She owns Hjerim, but uses it only for storage, while she "lives" in the Palace of the Kings (initially in the barracks, later in other areas of the castle).

I always limit my characters' skills and quests to follow whatever build I've made for them, but Annika is the first character I've tried to play in alignment with a story, and that's been really interesting! A lot of what happens in my fanfic can't be done in-game, but I've enjoyed trying to roleplay as closely as possible to it, and imagine what she would do "in between" certain events and after the story ends.

My new favorite method of role-playing is to stick to one hold. I might join the local faction, or I might just do odd jobs for people so I can earn cash and slowly work up my character's confidence to the point he or she feels ready for some adventure. I will usually become thane of this particular hold and tour the nearby dungeons and landmarks with my housecarl or other follower who I befriended in the same area.
I like this idea! I'll have to try that.

This sounds pretty cool, I might do it in my next playtrhough, but right now since my character aims to become king I prefer becoming thane of all.holds and owning houses in all of them, that way I'm quite the powerful guy.
