The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a smash hit, selling millions of copies and delighting critics around the country. It's certainly risen the status of CD Projekt Red, the previously obscure developers of the game. Now everybody's wondering: what do they plan to create next?

Projekt Red's next game was actually announced back in 2012: a cyberpunk, open-world RPG literally called Cyberpunk 2077. It's only now that they're starting serious work on it, and they have no plans to show the fruits of that work until 2017.

Projekt's CEO Adam Kicinski is fully aware his company didn't gather much attention until now, and it was his hope the hard work and attention given to Witcher 3 would pay off. As he told Reuters, "We broke into the mainstream. It is such a moment in our firm's history that after some years people will look differently at CD Projekt before and after this release."

He also claims Cyberpunk will be even better. "We hope and we are certain that Cyberpunk has even bigger commercial potential. It is too early to talk about it, though." It's also too early to judge its quality -- a lot can happen, even for a developer who's released a hit.

Between now and the release of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red will also be releasing two add-on packs for Witcher 3 (unrelated to the already-promised sixteen free expansions they are rolling out beginning this week). There are no details on either pack yet.
