The only detail I really want is: do they alter the appearance of the victim? If they do, then a giant spider suckling on their neck is a deal breaker for me.
no change in appearance except for all the varied gear you can give them once they are under control

You seem to have had a difference experience than me. It's been a while and I trust your judgment on the subject more than my own. I'll have to revisit them as I really do like using all variants of the little critters. I usually stick to the x6 ones as supply is so limited.

I've been running around with my level one some more, and picked up Velehk Sain and Erandur in the process. Decided to play with the Dwarven Mace with Velehk. This has turned into a very inspiring experiment! I just find it particularly curious Velehk will dual-wield, however, his Mace is not visible. (Yes, I recall Dremora have funny left hands... I'd never tried giving a Dremora a left-handed weapon.) This definitely adds to the intimidation factor. It's very scary running from a foe who's weapon cannot be seen... With regards to his performance, even at level one, is lacking. He does require some health absorption or regular spell healing. The novelty is pleasing, at least.

I've been very impressed with Erandur at level one. (I think he spawns at 10; uncertain.) He uses his Firebolt and flames-- and interestingly enough, maintains his voice clips. I'm rather wishing I'd spent more time with him on my 26. Looking forward to more face time, for sure.

Anything else thrall related? ... I might be back if I remember something...

So, you folks might not believe it, but I finally figured out how to keep Salma.... And it's far easier than you'd expect. All you have to do is Calm everyone and kill Salma, while letting Beem-Ja live. As long as he's kept alive Salma will remain a permanent corpse. Dawning Steel Plate and the same voice as Jordis the Shield Maiden, Salma is a force to be reckoned with.

I was experimenting with my bugged out Red Eagle's Fury quest on my level one, attempting to cause her to remain intact with a quest item in her inventory. Sadly, that didn't work. Salma would still be swept away. Did I mention the Red Eagle's Fury quest is kind of ridiculous in vanilla Skyrim? ...You can just duplicate that sword at will... Anyways, I now have a Salma on my level one, and will soon be trying to acquire her on a more leveled character.

A new age of Necromancy unfolds... Joy! It now seems apparent one could acquire Agna by following the same theory. Avoid finishing questline = body remains permanent. I'd like to next see how Eisa responds to a similar scenario. If I remember correctly, however, she has the same corpse behavior as Faldrus.

edit: Oh, I should mention I waited until Beem-Ja turns on you. At that point, I then Calmed everyone and killed Salma. Funny, I came back later and found Beem-Ja standing there with a torch in hand. Rather neat he has the same reaction to Calm as Estormo.

Lots of progress lately for several of my characters except Dastan... He's stuck trying to figure out how to keep Ancano. Yea, I know! He's really stubborn! Altimer (lvl1) has finished the main storyline and can rely on Salma to save his life. Opal (lvl32) has finally been able to begin the Civil War to acquire General Tullius. Let's say this is very welcome, especially for Opal.

Couple notes thus far:

Salma keeps her voice clips in a rather interesting fashion. At the first sign of hostility after an area transition or reanimation, she'll cry out of Beem-Ja's treachery. The odd thing is, following this initial use of her "in life" line, from then on will only moan and growl, etc. A different behavior from a different corpse behavior. Huzzah!

Vighar is still insane. I gave him the first and only Daedric item spawn, a mace, and... it's just insanity. He's incredible with his Ice Spikes and Lightning Bolts, and seemingly unending supply of magicka. His old man voice is so wonderful too. I tried getting him to put on armour on my level one, but unfortunately it seems robes are mandatory at such a low level.

More stuff: The reason why it's taken so long for Opal to begin the Civil War is because I wanted to clear all the forts on the Stormcloak side before "taking" them. I was most interested in catching Brandish, and to my surprise, he was a far greater level to the Brandish on my 40. Level locked areas are continually shaming Skyrim with their low level enemies... GAH! That aside, this Brandish can dual cast, and uses more than just Frostbite. The excitement never ends.

I also picked up a couple Bandit Chiefs, one from Greenwall and another from Neugrad, and two Marauders for accompaniment. It's nice being able to focus on certain single instance enemies, where once killed, never respawn. Then the added security of knowing your bodies won't disappear if you venture too close to an area or whichever is very nice.

Finally, my last submission: Opal ran into the Aspiring Mage, and you want to know what? He was carrying a Staff of Dread Zombies... Like, there I was thinking she could never attain one being level 32. Apparently the Aspiring Mage will either scale up, or randomly spawn within two (or more) tiers. This Aspiring Mage, I tell you...

Level 1: Traded Salma for Beem-Ja. While running through Ironbind it came to my attention Beem-Ja knows only healing at his lowest level. Took me some time to convince myself of the exchange, but it's been well worth it despite Salma's Steel Plate. Using the combination of Arch-Mage Robes, Vokun, and the Necromancer Amulet I am able to cast Dead Thrall as an Altmer. This has been a great break form carrying around Daedric Pieces for the Conjuration reduction.

Also, I went and picked up Adaleisa. She has a peculiar reanimation behavior. She maintains her bow, yet, still uses others and will not expend arrows. I've been very intrigued by this combination. I may confess the only reason that I wanted her was to acquire Imperial Armour after having completed the Civil War. (The stuff is so rare!) Of course, now I realize I could go and find Sulla.... Eh, she was worth it.

Level 26: Attempted to reacquire Brandish with Tajiin. Sadly, he's a weakling in this level range, knowing only Flames. Brandish is presumably not a fully realized Elemental Mage here. This experience has left me very disheartened on Tajiin's behalf. That aside, I did farm up another Bandit Chief since losing her on my 32. It took some time to farm up the exact match, with respect to the Chief I lost, and she is wonderful. I am exceptionally pleased she'll dawn full Steel Plate, regardless of being some levels lower.

Level 32: I brought Golldir to the Blades for the experience of having done it at least once. At first I was put off how his inventory would lose items during the transition, though, obviously averted by removing all items prior to talking to Delphine. I gave him a torch, so he can light the lobby of Goldenglow.

Came to know that Sarthis will spawn as a Dunmer, and then will additionally take on Steel Plate with a little convincing. The Orc Sarthis rather had me puzzled. Similarly, Rigel Strong-Arm will put on Steel Plate too, provided you follow the same philosophy with Sarthis. I am very excited to now have two Steel Plate titans in storage. Sarthis' heavy breathing is very satisfying as well.

Turns out I was wrong about Brandish and the Bandit Chief of Neugrad. I had thought they would remain permanent, but unfortunately the Civil War (on the Stormcloaks' side) will disrupt and erase them. This upset me to some fantastic degree, I do say! See, Opal must have Tullius, and for this sacrifices must be made. I am unsure if any other Bandit Chiefs are affected. I'd guess they are. Luckily my second Bandit hief was taken from Fort Greenwall, and was left unharmed. Phew!

Level 34: After the exchange for Beem-Ja on my level 1 I proposed I grab Salma on Dastan. This has worked out very well. She is a welcome addition to his body collection. Lest we forget about Brandish. he has also been acquired here. It's times like these that I jump for joy for having neglected to discover many locations during these last couple builds. As a sad consequence, I did have to lose Ancano in the process. And the second time was no easier. It wouldn't be so bad if I were at least able to keep him through stunting the College timeline. This is, in theory, possible, however, Ancano becomes resistant to enthralling after leaving him in an area. Insult toe injury, Ancano... *sigh*

I now have to raise more anchors for Dastan. Currently trying to decide who to kill for their letters of inheritance. Why? Because Madanach and his pals are next on the list. And not the version on my 40 either! I've left them to Druadach, and hope to compile a named Forsworn variety. I know Madanch (and others) are permanent when they still reside in Cidhna... Maybe they are permanent here too? I don't know. Will find out soon.

Level 40: There has been progress with my Farelda, but it's not all exciting. I've decided to let Rigel go because she's the weaker variant. There are other changes too, however, the most has been with general playstyle. I've finally adopted Elemental Fury with her Necromage and Vampirism-- and it's fast. Like, really fast! Like, so fast you can't even barely keep up with the button presses. It's absolutely amazing. I am glad I'd waited so long to try this out. (It was one of the incentives for creating this build in the first place.) Words cannot express how magnificent her swings are now!

Can't think of much else... May write more later.

Oh, right! There are more exciting things on Farelda. I did pick up a Thalmor Wizard and dual-wielding Thalmor Soldier during Diplomatic Immunity. The Wizard conjures a Storm Atronach, just like those from Northwatch; and though, the Thalmor Soldier needs Absord Health, his dual-wielding is very good. His Elven Light Armour is welcome too as I do not have any other thralls in Elven Light. Rulindil, even though he caps at 25, was a let down. One small thing, I can't help but wonder if the trick for Sarthis and Rigel work for many others.

Farelda also has Elenwen. She puts you on quite the journey! Can you say "mounted lumberjack"? The last bit on Thalmor hierarchy relates to Ondolemar. I found out that reporting back to Galmar after seizing the goods causes his body to be erased. Seeing as how I love having two Thalmor Soldiers just standing over his dead body, I've decided to leave the Civil war alone. I can't enthrall any of the big guns on Farelda anyway.

edit: Okay! Last bit and I'll finish. I promise!

I forgot to mention Dastan's shortage of anchors is directly relating to the various charatcers during The Forsworn Conspiracy. Dryston, Nepos, Uelle, Nana, and Damnel are going to be included in the mix. All successfully GR'd, and just now needing proper seating. I may eventually let Damnel go... He isn't terribly interesting to me.

I've been playing around on the PC version of Skyrim and it makes thralling absolutely game breaking. Running around with the Ebony Warrior is fun, but watching him slaughter an entire camp of bandits gets a little old.

Right now I'm running around with Galmar (I love the vocal clips) and a Nightmaster Vampire (Also has some nice vocals).

I haven't thralled anyone else in awhile, so I'm very rusty about some named NPCs I could thrall, could someone tell a couple (hopefully with vocals) thralls that aren't too overpowered? Thanks!

It recently came to my attention that there are very few named and killable Khajiit in Skyrim. Don't get me wrong. I still love J'darr... It's just... well, I want more Khajiit. Additionally, I know of very few Bosmer. Ardwen and Faendal are the only two I can think of off-hand. I am still waiting for Ardwen to spawn on my 26, and Faendal is... well... only one. At least, with Argonians I have access to Beem-Ja, Deeja, and Jaree-Ra. Though I would like to find more, it would most certainly involve a killing spree of sorts to reveal the hidden treasures.

Maybe that's what I should do... hmm...

You can have the Thalmor assassin after you kill him for Malborn. Make sure Malborn survives Diplomatic Immunity and find him at the New Gnsis.

There's also that one Khajiit contract, Marund-something jo. Hail Sithis.

I FORGOT ABOUT KESH THE CLEAN. Best Khajiit thrall, Kesh the Clean!

Oddly enough, I ran into Kesh and subsequently grabbed him on Farelda. I figured it was finally time to run through Bthardamz. You know Orchendor is quite the guy... I have now fully realized just why all you Necromancers love him. And it doesn't stop there! The Afflicted are bloody amazing too. While I had originally set out to grab three Afflicted, two were identical in appearance. It was decidedly superfluous to keep them all.

I put Orchendor in Dragonplate Boots and Glass Gauntlets; and though I realize his jewelry is non-applicable, I felt it most pleasing to give him higher leveled items. I am a little piqued by his combat AI. He tends to use Incinerate only a couple times until the enemy gets in close. From then on it's all about the Frostbite and Heaing, in place of Fast Healing (or any other healing spells he may know). Regardless, he's quite wonderful. I'll admit I am far more interested in the Afflicted themselves, though.

It took some hour or so, but I was able to suit one up in full Dwarven. I just thought that was too neat. Full Dwarven on a thrall? That's madness! And I love it. The second absolutely refused to spawn Imperial Light Armour, so I opted for Ragged Trousers, Imperial Boots and Bracers, and Imperial Light Shield. They are both sights to behold, I am telling you. I would actually like to put a screenshot of them up... Maybe I'll get to that later.

In the way of Khajiit-- I've completed my Undead Boxer. I've been using Ebony Gauntlets and ring with Unarmed enchantments. it's just ridiculous. Anyways, how does this tie into Necromancy? Well I've been using him to scout out prospective Khajiit thralls... It hasn't been the most productive mission as Khajiit are far a few between. Still one Khajiit caravan guard (though I don't recall her name) showed potential...

Another thing on my agenda has been to acquire various named Orcs. It has been a troubling ambition for me for some time. I want to, yet, I truly enjoy the Orcs and their vibes... It doesn't help that I love Volendrung, and properly revere Malacath. Eh, cause of Necromancy will need to take precedence eventually.

So we're back from the dead again!

Well I am now trying to get Captain Aquiius to spawn his Steel Plate armour. As I read, he should dawn Steel Plate above level 18; however, the only time I've ever seen him in Steel Plate was during Hard Answers on my 81... I am still trying to understand what the significance of this is. The first thought that comes to mind is Understone Keep is subject to level locking. While I have had some success "leveling up" an NPC by entering their area and then leaving, various methods have not yielded s satisfactory result. I have one last idea in mind to try out. After this I'll be sure to groan loudly in despair if it doesn't work.

I returned to troubleshoot some more with Aicantar. I figured it would be worth it since I now know of a couple new ways to GR bodies. Sadly he's still hopeless. I am definitely finished with him now... All these SFR bodies just make me puke, I tell you!

General Tullius has been growing on me over the past couple days. He is very enjoyable... and honestly, I prefer his voice clips over Ulfric's.

I went and caught all of Madanach and his troupe on Dastan. I now have them all huddled neatly together-- best buddies in Helgen Keep. Additionally, Thonor (ar?) Grey-Mane and his two family friends joined in. I was surprised to uncover Thonor has to be GR'd. Although he himself doesn't put anything else on besides the Roughspun Tunic (and Footwraps), the two family friends have an equip pool to work with.

Three more bodies were secured during the quest for Boethiah. I was very pleased to learn the Cultists can be reanimated after finishing his quest like the Champ. And sure, a part of me thought about keeping the Champ on Dastan. I decided against it since Farelda already has him... Speaking of Farelda... ummm.... Folks, I think I have a problem.

... I did a head count... ...Farelda has 98 bodies... Originally I did the head count for 97, but since then she picked up Stalleo as well. He reminds me a lot of Wyndelius, except without the ghoulishness. A throwback to Harkin's comment about Ulfric Stormcloak's Storm Atronach, I gave a Staff of the Frost Atronach to a Stalleo's Bodyguard. Reads: "Stalleo's Bodyguard's Frost Atronach". That was a good laugh... Telrav is also a newcomer. I believe the most exciting news for Farelda is, Borgakh's armour can be swapped out for Orcish if you met her too early.

It may not be common knowledge, but Borgakh will spawn in Iron armour up to a point, and then will dawn Orcish. Well luckily if you strip her, she'll come back with her Orcish instead of remaining in Iron for the rest of her days serving you.

You know, I have more to write about... But, I've been thinking more and more about just getting a good assortment of thrall pictures up. I think that'll be my next endeavor...

EDIT:

I've come back after some troubleshooting with Aquilius. I've successfully made him put on Steel Plate at level 52. So for anyone willing to stunt the Thieves Guild timeline at Hard Answers and keep Captain Aquilius, that would be the best level to do so. I don't know who wrote level 19 as being the turnover level, but I am quite certain it is wrong.

Mogrul- this ex-moneylender has become a bodyguard in Guilded Elven cuirass ; Glass helm, boots, gauntlets ; Glass Greatsword with fire/absorb life

Merilas Rendar - I went over the top with insect theme with Falmer armor and Shellbug helmet for this sorc. Without significant spells of her own , I gave her Ahzidal`s Ring of Arcana and she Ignites her foes. for her left hand a Falmer Staff of Thunderbolts

I now have a Reaver Lord under control who may be considered a blank slate as far as equipment.
Any suggestions ?

So , do you have to be on computer to get Captain Hargar and Jaree-Ra out of that damned grotto ?

No, I did it on the 360 before I ported over. You have to kill Jaree-Ra, and anyone else you want to escape, on top of the cave exit hill and then use a paralysis spell to glitch lock their bodies into position.

I could write up a more detailed step-by-step. I know last time I wrote extensively on this, the posts were riddled with uncertainties and theory.

From what I understand of what you've written about Mind Control, the possibilities are almost endless. I'd suggest doing something unique, not exceptionally effective. Unique.

Try fortifying their sneak and muffle to the point you can sneak past enemies with a thrall... Like I'd pay money to see someone do that. Haha.
