I'm level 28 - Wood Elf. I originally wanted to be an Archer, mostly killing everything with the Bow...Then, I seemed to settle into more of a Warrior style.
I'm favoring Two-handed battle mostly. (Of course that style makes for very cool special effects!) :ashstab: Also using the one-handed weapon/ magic technique...
Mainly cuz, I found out you really can't get good with the bow, until later levels, when you gain enough Bow strength/perks...
Now, at Lvl 28,
I'm decent with the bow, But still can't hit moving targets to well. And by my judgement, you can't use the bow in most situations like: Tight ,closed fighting situations in cave corridors...
Or can you? I'm thinking the bow is better only in open area combat...

Anyhow, bottom line question: I use a flames enchantment on bows mostly..
What enchantment is best for the bow...And what perks should I be focusing on to get better at archery. Do the "slow down time" perks help much. Or do you just need to practice more with the bow. (My Archery skill tree is 41) Any help would be appreciated! :beermug:

You are like me, I am one of the worst archers in Skyrim. Slow time helps thiugh only the first point of it. I would say practice helps the most. As for tighter quarters I think helps me personally as it funnels opponents down say a hallway and I can turn them into pincushions. As for enchantments doesn't matter, if you can't hit them the enchantment is moot anyway. Best way to improve in archery I think is to force yourself to keep using it so you learn the arcs and the time it takes the arrow to travel.

Basically get the timing, which dueling other archers I think helps as you both strafe back and forth.

Bows can be used in any/every situation. Much like other weapons, it all depends on who is using it.
For example, the bow is adept in close range due to it's ability to bash people by pressing LT. This is a good thing to do, as it gives more time to back up or have a chance for the bash to do the actual bow damage. This however is random. Also, if you are having trouble hitting moving targets, practice at Angi's camp above Helgen to increase your archery skill and acquire the Eagle Eye perk. This slows you to slow down time as well as aim.

Finally, the paralysis enchantment starts spawning in shops at around level 26-30. I recommend taking the time to search for that enchantment and equipping it on your bow until you get the Bullseye Perk.

Hope this helped. :)

The archer that I'm playing right now, uses the bow only, no secondary weapon. Slow time shout in my honest opinion, is essential for an archer. Learning all three words at low levels will help out an archer tremendously. Also, build your skill in Illusion for invisibility and Silent Casting <------ and that perk right there Ladies and Gentlemen will make Slow time shout completely silent when in sneak.

With the shout completely silent, you can sneak up on multiple targets, use the shout and take them out silently, they won't even know what hit them. Invest some time in getting your smithing skills up, upgrade your bow or craft one of your choice, then upgrade it and you'll be a one man army. I play nothing but an archer and I don't even need to use glitches or exploits to make my archey powerful.

Thanks for the replies...I do have paralysis enchantment. Thou bow of burning is also excellent...
I think that part of the strafing left and right. (defense) is good advice. I tried that, and was instantly better.
I forgot about about shouting & The bows' blocking ablility.

I've tried, and failed, to be a cqc archer. If you're like me, and your controller gives you miniscule, slow movement, right up until the point that it leaps far past whatever you were aiming at, the idea of any kind of moving precision is out the window. It's always like...nothing, a little, a little, a little, a little more, zoom! Halfway around the room.

That being said, if you do end up in running combat with a bow, I've found much better results by trying to predict their path, aiming for a spot before them, and waiting until they touch the outside of the crosshair to fire.
