The mapping system just sucks. Why not have an option to color the places you've discovered so that you might know if you've cleared the place, or just walked by, or went in, or anything. And how about being able to draw in an actual road or trail? I don't play on a pc so can't grab the UESPWiki map. So i have a bazillion white icons with massive cloud cover....
The clouds in the map bother the living pl*ps outta me too. Bethesda wanted to make a "cool looking" map, okay, I get that. Resident Evil: Revelations wanted to do that too. But we know 3D maps don't really work unless we're given full freedom over it's "camera", for lack of a better word. It sucks having to look at the map from above without being able to properly zoom in already, did Bethesda really need to add clouds and make our view of the roads and paths even more difficult? I mean, they clearly gave a priority to looks as opposed to practicality here.
I think they should have added in an option to choose a "basic" map, like Oblivion's, or their elaborate 3D map. It would make things a lot easier for people who play on consoles.

A way to rename items you haven't enchanted. (There isn't a function like this already and I've missed it, is there?)

A different kid face. Even if just one for girls and one for boys. They just all have the same (slightly creepy) face. I think there is technically one Reguard and one Breton child up for adoption, but they still look exactly like the Nords.

First I'll state the obvious. TOILETS! Where does all the poop go?!?

Borderlands has toilets.

100% agreed on the other things. I always have to adjust after playing Borderlands where I can clear a camp before my feet hit the ground. Especially with the Mechromancer.

Weapon and armor repair would be cool too like they did in Fallout.

Dwemer being absent leaves a big dwarf hole imo. Got humans, lizards, cats, giants, every kind of elf, trolls, hags, zombies, ghosts, talking dogs, cavemen... even dragons. No dwarves...
No running water. Outhouses and buckets. They're all over the place.

I think we need a Starbucks in Skyrim, or maybe a Jambajuice? I'm awfully tired of mead and ale. I betcha the Khajit could make some kick-a** beverages, or maybe have the waiter from the Bee and Barb be the manager? I understand he's great at coming up with delicious concoctions.

Don't mind the disagree, but I wonder, why would there be toilets? Toilets weren't even invented in our world until the 19th century (i.e. the Water Closet). Other than buckets, bedpans, outhouses and holes in certain rooms in castles, what was there?

I see buckets in almost every location I go in to in Skyrim - bandit hideouts, prisons, keeps and even some homes. I have, however, never seen any running water, unless you count a stream, river or sewer to be running water.

Besides, isn't comparing Skyrim to Borderlands & Fallout a little odd? Skyrim is pre-industrial/middle/dark-ages (past), while Borderlands & Fallout are both post apocalyptic (future). Not to mention that they're both shooters, so, obviously they'd be a bit more advanced as a culture than swords & sorcery.

Fallout isn't a shooter any more than Skyrim is. Pull trigger fire a bullet, pull trigger fire an ice spike... no difference, Fallout has swords too btw. Borderlands is on another planet entirely, so your assumption that it takes place in the future is just that. It could have taken place long ago in a galaxy far, far away. Skyrim is on another planet as well so it could just as easily be taking place in the future in a galaxy not so far away. Either way, all planets are responsible for their poop and I blame the Dwemer in Skyrim for not using their technology and wisdom to help with the poop crisis. Of all races, the Dwemer had the goods to solve the issue and instead decided to use that knowledge to make a bunch of highly complex, easily avoidable death traps. Shame they concentrated so heavily on death and not a little more on indoor plumbing and poop removal.

Hmm... interesting. I've been considering trying Fallout. I don't think I want to go all the way back to the beginning so where would you suggest starting at? Not really in to sci-fi games.

Blame the Dwemer! HA! I love it. It would certainly explain why they disappeared though. :)

Consequences - there are no consequences in skyrim unlike previous ES games, seems in skyrim it doesn't matter how you play, who you join or what you say quests can be completed. So without consequences there are no choices to make knowing perhaps if you joined the imperial certain cities etc could be risky or off limits, but no, which to me makes no sense,

Just an observation that's all.

I would suggest New Vegas as it is somewhat less dated and has vastly more crafting options. New Vegas and Fallout 3 have many similarities. Fallout 3 was more like a grand experiment by Bethesda to see what they could do by applying the Oblivion engine to what was once an isometric RPG. Hardcore fans hated (and still do to this day) the transition and the liberties Bethesda took on messing with the lore that was well established from the first two offerings (not made by Bethesda). New players to the Fallout universe (in other words, Elder Scroll fans) loved it and many consider it a masterpiece. I'm in the latter camp. New Vegas on the other hand displayed a return to more accurate and sensible lore and thus the old isometric guys seem to begrudgingly accept New Vegas if for no other reason than they have no other choice since Bethesda is at the wheel now. To me, Fallout 3 is more of a stand-alone game whereas New Vegas seems to be a more realistic continuation of the original plot.

Thank you. Perhaps I will try both just to see which is more my cup of tea. I'm not much in to the post-apocalyptic thing, but it can't hurt to try, eh? Besides, I know I can get both at my local gamestop in the "new" category for about $75 or about $45 used.

If you're not in to sci-fi type stuff then I would suggest waiting for Fallout 4. The Fallout games are pretty dreary compared to Elder Scrolls and the humor is a little dark and twisted. Oh yea, and everybody is ugly.

I can handle all of the rest of it, but "everybody is ugly"! That I can't do! My characters have to be beautiful/handsome! I can't play an uggo! Well... at least Fallout 4 should be out later this year. :)

Plus I know you like third person and it's not real good in Fallout. In fact, my opinion is that it's downright terrible. I only play first person so it's never an issue for me. Best thing about Fallout 3, for me, is the map. They really did a great job, especially downtown DC. Many complain that it's a maze but that is kinda the point... it got hammered by nukes, there should be dead ends and frustration when exploring. And exploring the underground transit system and blown out buildings can get pretty scary, especially when ghouls move faster than a cheetah.

Sorry OP, let me steer this back...

Sleep potions and love potions would be handy for the enterprising thief and offer some good RP value methinks.

I would have liked having the ability to remove unwanted side quests from my journal. As long as I didn't start it - then it could reset to it's start state

Thought up another thing I would have liked to see in Skyrim - a way to set traps to protect certain areas. For example, Lakeview Manor. Being that you're the Dragonborn and all and now have a family, I mean you just know certain people might want to target the Dovahkiin's family to get at him/her, especially in those type of remote areas where the Hearthfire homes are. Sure you have a steward and/or Housecarl and possibly a guard dog or warrior spouse, but what if someone super tough came for them? Wouldn't it be nice to be able to set up traps around Lakeview Manor whenever your character has to leave their family alone to go adventuring? Heck for that matter, here's something to add into the Hearthfire DLC: an escape route underneath the house. Maybe feeding into that nearby underground crypt - it's one of the few with no Draugr. Shriekwind Bastion, I think it is. It's the one with a south and north exit/entrance. It'd make a great escape route. I would've liked the option to add these things to my Hearthfire homes and maybe, in certain situations, in enemy territory. Would've been quite fun I think, instead of having to figure out how to use a trap that may or may not already be there and that isn't yours. :/ Eh.
