I intend to thrall Falx Carius, but what level must I be to accomplish that? This is my first foray into necromancy as a serious art. At this point, I really have no idea what I'm doing. My first actual quest is the Markarth Foresworn quest. A Breton, who made her way to Markarth, finds herself caught up in the conspiracy. Any advice?? I'm about to get Molag Bal's mace if I can survive the mission. :beermug: I would've stared a new thread, but by the looks of things that would've been redundant.
As far as advice re: Markarth.
Drop anchors on Eola , Cosnach , Vorstag if/when they die.
Forgive me but, drop anchors? This refers to something specific, the likes of which I'm still unclear about.
ANCHOR- any permanent item . Placed in a named NPC`s inventory after death , the anchor can prevent the corpse from disappearing out of the game-

I've been meaning to ask, but what are Mind Control Spiders and what do they do for thralls? I've been absent from the forums for quite awhile (World of Warcraft addict) and I've come back recently.

Mind Control Spiders as well as other spider styles are Magic Scrolls which are obtainable if you have Dragonborn DLC installed. -http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Dragonborn:Spider_Scrolls

Sometimes when you toss mind control spider(s) onto a corpse and then reanimate corpse with Dead Thrall , the thrall will glitch with results like a follower/thrall hybrid.
The glitched thrall will enter /exit combat and sneak modes when you do and will also wear different armor and jewelry rather than their normal default equipment.
For instance , I have Sapphire dressed in Nightingale rather than Thieves Guild armor , Sven in a full set of Stalhrim, and the Northwatch Interrogator in full Ebony.

Ok, thanks Adam! I've forgotten about those, I only go there for Dukaan's Mask, haha. I can create my own "Snow Elf" army now, Ancient Falmer armor for all!!!

Wow... the anchor situation complicates things I guess... I should choose my permathralls carefully. :beermug:

It isn't a very limiting thing. By making friends with someone, killing them, enthralling, and repeat, you can have an unlimited supply of anchors. The letters of inheritance couriers give you are natural anchors. Be sure not to "kill" someone more than once between deliveries, because letters of inheritance, when stacked atop each other, lose their anchoring capabilities. You'd probably already know this if you read the article (unless it doesn't say this...) For some fantastic convenience, have lots of friends and go through this process once with each. In a short while, a courier will run by and give you the note from all individuals involved, and they won't stack. Another anchor that behaves this way is the Dark Brotherhood Assassin's Note. (That one the assassin has on it when it tries to kill you.) Don't carry more than one of these in your inventory at once either.

You killed Sapphire?!?!? I am appalled!

edit: In other news, I have tried several methods to keep Alcantar around. At this point, I've just left him (with the help of some calming) in Calcelmo's Laboratory during Hard Answers. Maybe one day I'll get back to him and figure out this riddle... Similarly I've forgone any new progress through the Thieves Guild in favor of keeping Captain Aquilius. He'll disappear after finishing the quest-- and so do all of the Wizard's Guards. You know what that means, right? I can run around with like 14 guards of my own, for a short period. And to the ignorant passerby, they'll be known to be MY Wizard's Guards! *evil laughter ensues*

I've also caught up in the DB questline. While I've decided to let Titus live (because he's so damn obsessively morbid,) new additions to my crew include: Lieutenant Salvarus, Captain Avidius, Commander Maro, and a friendly Corsair from the Dainty Sload. Joy! On the other hand, a method to keep any of the DB assassins around failed. Surely, they are all marked for deletion, and though, I've learned some very creative means to obtain stubborn bodies, these NPCs are just acutely indisposed. Arcturus was one of the characters I would have liked to acquire...

More stuff! It took me roughly four hours, but I managed to fully upgrade all of my bodies' armour equipment to preferred system. I realize this was only my level 40 collection. It's an accomplishment. Next will be upgrading all their weapons for combat, including my own sets of armour and weapons for leisurely activities. Hurray!

So, in light of recent events, I am now theorizing a 37 build. This has most to do with a happening a couple days ago. Let me explain. With my level 40, I went and destroyed Vighar. It was then that I learned something odd: He wears armour at 40, and only robes at 34. Up until a couple days ago, I'd assumed Vighar only wore robes... This gets me thinking. When does he put some armour on? Suffice to say, I'd like to do some trials before beginning a whole new build; yet, one can't help but feel underwhelmed with Vighar in his lesser dress.

Taking cue from Adam, I've now learned just how monstrous Briarhearts are. I loaded up my 34 again and found the one at Hag's End. The guy spawned with a Glass Sword of Lightning and a Glass Sword of the Blaze! Needless to say, I had to resort to some borderline exploitation of the AI to win this one. (But, really? Did I win? No, I had to cheat a lot...) That aside, he's inconceivably powerful. Standing next to him has me feeling like my level 1 with his super juiced up Churl. Anyways, I am wondering now if the Briarheart at Bard's Leap is a more powerful one. I seem to recall him being the most troublesome to take down in earlier regular playthroughs.

Spent an hour or so trying to get Vighar to put on some armour for the quest. It hasn't worked out very well. I am beginning to think whether he dawns armour or not is a dice roll. Here's a niche of NPC behavior I am not very familiar with. It did seem easy for Harkin during his attaining the right Piquine, however, a surefire way to cause an NPC to completely refresh, in a short timeframe, eludes me. Judging by the dissimilar behaviors of many NPCs when turning them into dead servants, especially ones of level related differences, I do feel this may also apply to methods to refreshing them. In my experience, I've learned how to accidentally cause a Volkihar Vampire to refresh... This must be my first step. I'll need to learn to purposely cause this. Fortunately, I have a couple ideas in mind, and will try to understand this.

More news! Slowly I've been compiling a list of bodies that will refresh or outright disappear when visiting their home turf. Captain Valmir is one of them. We've already learned Anise will refresh her body, and lose her clothes in the process. Valmir seems to just disappear if you wander too close to Forelhost; and this rings true for an East Empire Warden, if you enter the EETCW without it. I didn't spend a whole lot of time discerning if one could enter the EETCW with it in tow, but early results showed it may disappear once having entered or after leaving the area. Oddly, the East Empire Warden will stick around without issue if you enter through the Grotto entrance. There seems to be some script/continuity error that occurs as Dockworkers and Guards will not spawn as they should. Of course, it is absolutely possible I didn't do enough experimentation here. At the time, I was more concerned with trying to retrieve another body out of t EETCW without forcing me to choose between them.

edit: Perhaps you may know something more about Vighar, Adam? I do remember you touching on Vighar briefly some 50 pages back... I don't remember the exact context, though.

Vighar is essentially same as Movarth , a respawning vamp boss who scales up to lvl53.
A generic boss fills each dungeon spot until you trigger their quests.
Vighar wears robes unless Dawnguard DLC installed .
Movarth can display broken combat AI .

Well, he was definitely in Elven armour and boots when I met him at level 40. This gives me an even greater desire to understand this happening, and if It is possible to reproduce at a lower level. I get the feeling I know how to set up this curiosity. It'll just be a matter of a deal of patience. Thanks for the input, Adam.

Haha. And I appreciate the encouragement, Irishman.

Okay! As I figured, Vighar will spawn in armour if you've already cleared Bloodlet Throne before talking to Dangeir. At least, this is how I managed it, just now, with my 34. Sadly, he spawns as higher a level vampire than my 34 can enthrall. He's without Necromage, so I'm going to run over to my 32 and see if she can, having Necromage at her disposal. I do hope I'll be able to suit him up in Elven. It would be a real bloody tease if he'll only dawn Leather armour pieces at these levels. In all honesty, I predict he's spawning as a Master Volkihar when done this way, but one cannot be certain until tried.

edit: To my great disbelief, I will not be able to begin Dark Ancestor with my 32 because of yet another bug I ran into with the help people of Falkreath quest. At the time I didn't think anything of it. I didn't even know about Vighar at the time, but the resulting impression is lasting. As I remember now, somehow I managed to cause the number of people helped to reset after indeed helping them. The irony is, if memory serves, it occurred when progressing with the Jarl missions, followed by one or two townspeople missions. This alone didn't stand as a problem. It was that all the while I had in my possession the stolen note for Dangeir the entire time. When I finally handed it into him the game reset the counter, as if it was the first task I'd completed.

Realistically, I should be able to fix the issue by transferring the file to computer and then sorting it out that way... But, then I haven't had any success following through with the more recent guide that cropped up here on the forums. This may inspire me to watch a video tutorial. I would really like to try to get Vighar without having to start a whole new build. Haha. And here I was thinking my sorrows with Necromancy were over. I can safely say Drelas, Jaree-Ra, and Savos Aren marked the steepest learning curves to adjust to; and while I fully appreciate a new hoop to jump through, it's beginning to feel a little unfair.

Really? A strange mix-up in a parallel quest timeline prohibits me from collecting on a body? Damnit! I am a Necromancer! I deserve to have my bodies!

Is Vighar really that important to have to go through so many issues? He is a just a named master vampire if Im not mistaken? Im not sure how he is sometimes wearing elven armour (have you got DG installed?) but isnt vampire armour just as good if not better? Or are you specifically after his elven gauntlets and/or helmet (if he wears one) for enchanting slots?

I dont mean to come across rude, Im just interested why you are so caught up with this NPC :p

I don't use any of the DLC. I could give you some reasons for my interest in this NPC. Well, he is twice as strong as Piquine when he puts on armour. While wearing robes he's barely a threat, but during these last couple visits, he absolutely slaughtered my followers. Additionally, he has an old man voice, so that's my second reason. I haven't yet run into a notable thrall with an old man voice. And although it would be pretty cool if these NPCs wore gauntlets and helmets, the motivator relating to armour pieces is purely aesthetic. My last reason is, I am a Necromancer with OCD.

Hurrah! I was able to transfer my save and fix the bug and then back over to the 360. I now have a Vighar, and guess what? First try yielded a most superbly dressed master vampire in Elven. I am very excited, and so is he. Honestly, after this experience, I am seriously contemplating moving my save files to the computer. My preference for vanilla won't change, but one can't help but find the loading times very appealing. And I mean, very appealing. Time will tell if this happens... I am quite certain only my stubbornness is getting in the way, as MotionInJoy is installed allowing me to use a PS3 controller... Decisions. Decisions... Having access to console commands would also grant me the ability to fix so many other bugs that don't necessarily break fulfillment, take away from a completionist element.

An update for my Dunmer: Illia... She's the same level from when I first recruited her. As I've learned, this means she is terribly weak-- like, level 10 weak... Seems I have another reason to try to learn to cause a thrall to refresh. I have no idea if this is actually possible, but it would be neat to see what happens, regardless.

An update for my Redguard: Keerava! He's super awesome! Sadly, he runs away from Snow Bears. I am familiar with this behavior. It's interesting that armour will play a role in causing a thrall to become fearful. I dressed Derkeethus in DB armour, and he'll do the same thing. It doesn't matter what weapon I give him. Well, okay, Keerava, you're scared of bears. I understand. They are quite intimidating.

Having recently acquired 100 Smithing; finally. My Redguard, Dastan, can now actually improve armour for his thralls. Huzzah! Fjola has become a legend in her time. And this is no stretch. She is very scary... I went and gave her a Glass Mace of Garnering, tooled it up, and sent her into battle. How close the line between love and admiration is! Currently, she's been helping me progress through the Civil War. The main objective, of course, is to nab Ulfric. I am quite certain I don't care about Galmar, though, he may accompany Ulfric on the basis of completing the collection. Hard to say.

I've taken up streaming on Twitch, as well. I figured it would be a neat experiment to do some game time on the computer with Dastan. So, if anyone would like to take a peek at my playstyle, you can on "HasFeet" on Twitch. Easy to remember, right? HouseHosted HasFeet... Yea, I thought it was funny...

edit: Going to have to look up who Keerava is. Veezara is the Argonian's name... Ah! He's the waiter in Riften. Hopefully you folks don't think I'm too crazy mixing the names up...

Dastan now has Ulfric. Joy! I did pick up Galmar as well; though, like I said, he doesn't pique my interest, really. I'm going to run around with Mr. Stormcloak for awhile tomorrow to see what Harkin enjoyed so much.

With the Civil War out of the way, and the first time I've completed it on the Imperial side, I found it very surreal fighting through the narrow passageway leading to the Palace of the Kings. For a moment, I could really imagine myself being one of the heads fighting for victory. It was worth it, for sure.

I'm really liking these triple and quadruple posts...

I forgot to mention yesterday that I found out how to get the Caller to use her teleportation spell... It's pretty juicy! Someone needs to ask me how and why it's so special!

Lmao I like these triple and quadruple posts too :p

Alritey, Im hooked! How did you get the Caller to use her teleportation power? And please tell me how cool it is!! Also, is the Caller a good thrall in general? if so please fill out a thrall sheet on Adams Thrall Character profile thingo...

There are some NPC's that are so good, they are worth devoting time to, especially if they are extremely powerful.

Thats what happened when I came across Movarth, not gonna swap him out tho, since my version looks like Jean Claude Vanne Damme!

Interesting progress on Vighar House, I got to him too late, notice how Vighar looks like Tolfdirs evil twin?

Oh my goodness...simply fascinating!

I think you will find Ulfric to be quite the fun thrall.

Spider scroll talk really makes me want to get dlcs, but I've been too busy with Bloodborne as of late!

Regarding the Callers teleportation, how you got it to work, it would be interesting to find out, I didnt experiment enough with her, I didn't see her perform any decent spells, even at high end levels, her and Orchendor would be madness.
