Strange Guard Dialogue

I just had something strange happen to me in Riverwood. After killing a dragon there, I needed some arrows, so I started chopping wood. Well, a guard walks over to me and ask, "You know anything about what happened?" Ummmmm..... My dialogue options was...

- I don't know what happened.
- I'm not talking about what happened.

The guard never explained to me, what exactly happened! Then I look around and all the town folk was behind him staring at me! Then he tells me, if I find out anything, report it to the guards immediately. And then he said," I got my eye on you". I'm like WTH!! I checked and no bounty, so I don't whats going on.

I think it happens if you are a witness to a murder or death that happens in the area, or you are a suspect of said murder/death. I read in some forums there is a glitch or mishap that also makes it happen when someone dies but you are no where near the person who perished. Be it dragon attack or something else. Not 100% sure on this since I've only got this a a small number of times since I first got the game (3 years ago). Hope that answered your question.

Come to think about it, a guard was killed by the dragon, I happen to see him laying over by one of the houses, so that might be what the guard is talking about. The dragon landed smack dab in the middle of Riverwood and I seen that guard fighting with him.

Same thing happened to me in Riften. Started a new game with the Skyrim Unbound mod, and had Riften as my starting location. As soon as I set foot outside the gates a dragon attacked, flew over the city and started killing all manner of town's folk, including several guards... I was also playing with Requiem so having just started a new character was in no shape to battle a dragon, so I cowered in one of the corners next to Grelka...It seemed the dragon was stuck in a loop so I made a run for the Bee and Barb...went in the one side and then out again the other side. When I exited everyone was going about their business with the dragon now gone, but doing their usual "Oh, what happened?" when they pass the corpses of the slain...there were lots of corpses all over the place...both guards and civilians.
Shortly thereafter I went into the Keep and when I came out was when the whole town approached me, led by a guard, then asked me that same question as noted by OP. Same dialogue options, and same eventual outcome... Same terrified and shocked reaction by me! Lol!
Glad to see I'm not the only one who's experienced it, and it makes a bit more sense now....

I've never had this happen to me in the countless times I've played this game. At first, I chose the first dialog option and exited out the convo, but the guard followed me and asked again. This time I chose the second option to see what would happen and he tells me I'm under arrest, 100 bounty flashes at the top of the screen and he tries to attack me, but I used the time slow shout and killed him with my bow. Then that's when all hell broke loose. Towns people started attacking, me running around stalling for time for my shout to recharge bla bla bla..... Anyway I ended up rolling it back to a previous save and guess what? Same thing happened, but this time I just walked away and down the road. This wasn't the time for my character to turn rogue.

its called harassment.....dirty cops....ummm sorry dirty guards......next thing you know they will be antiseptic bribes....or that they hint that they know your an assassin.

A Royal Commission into Guard Corruption is needed.....a stop must be put to this!

Did any one ever get attacked by Voorth's..... 3 Thugs, where here to teach you a lesson...well your fighting for your life....what do the guards do...pull out there TASERS and zap every one and stop violence in the streets......NO they just sit and watch.....to much Corruption

Those THugs tried to kill me just after me and the WHiterun guards killed the Dragon at the Western Watchtower. Well I didn't have to do anything as the guards laid into them. Guess they like me better Sah.. haha

I give that guard attitude when he asks me to stop. "Too bad, there's more where that came from!" I once had one ask me to stop shouting after I had just saved Winterhold from TWO dragons. He stood there in between both their skeletons giving me lip... pfft!

Only thing I've ever encounted was guards fining me for dropping stuff in town. Though I do have to be careful since there was that time where I dropped something by accident, the towns people wanted my item and starting arguing over who should get it. Next thing I know someone pulled a dagger and then the situation went way out of hand.
