Hey all. To be quick, after my MacBook suffered an untimely and watery death, I've constructed my first PC. Though it was originally built just with playing League in mind, I can't pass up the opportunity to finally play Skyrim on the PC instead of just 360. In my time of playing since launch, I've heard about TONS of mods and there's a few I consider "must haves" but don't remember the name of, or where they were posted. So I'm hoping you guys can recognize the mods, as well as give feedback (maybe they sounded good on a YouTube video but really aren't worth it), and recommend some cosmetic mods. Below are the specs, but let me know if you need any more information:

Processor: Intel Pentium CPU G3258 @ 3.20 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 750

Mods I'm Looking For

1 - I believe this one was called "Second Life" or something? You were supposed to answer a few generic questions about your character's backstory and you're given an alternative starting location and inventory based on this background. You might, for example, start as a poor farmer in Rorikstead. There are a few mods like this, I believe, so please recommend what you think is the best one.

2 - There was one that changed the skill trees completely. I believe it did things like added an entire branch for unarmed damage, possibly split up light armors into Light and medium, etc. I honestly don't remember much about it, or reading much in the way of reviews but I remember the design seemed spot on.

3 - A "hardcore mode" mod. I know there's a ton. Something that makes the game as realistic as possible, like Fallout: New Vegas. I've always loved doing Skyrim journals and what not so I hope to continue those, but now with pictures and much more realism.

4 - A mod that makes dragons appear randomly, regardless of whether or not you've completed the Western Watchtower mission. I'm sure that has to be a thing.

5 - Is there a mod for polearm weapons? I don't know why the game is all about dragons and I can't be a legitimate Dragoon!

6 - Harder stealth mechanics. There's no reason for me to be able to just crouch and disappear in a shadow just because my Sneak is at 100...

7 - Cosmetic upgrades. Nothing my computer can't comfortably handle, preferably. This could be textures (especially for players, the console standards are just ugly as sin for male PCs) or sounds. I also really like some of the mods I've seen that just add new clothing, or reskin existing ones to just look better/more unique.

8 - Your personal recommendations?

Welcome to the PCMasterRace ;) :beermug:

this is a very, very wide topic. So wide, its impossible for any one to give you a comprehensive introduction I think, since many people have literally hundreds of mods. The maximum is 255 afaik. I haven't been at it for that long, and I'm at 90ish active mods already. So listing just a few "must haves" out of those would be very difficult! Just let it grow organically!

Most of your needs can probably be satisfied here http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/?

and for general information concerning the topic, I think r/skyrimmods is great.

But, I'll give it a try anyways.
Most gameplay mods are very specific to personal taste and everything, so I'll skip most of them.
Still, here are a few I think you shouldnt go without:

Skse
SkyUI
A matter of time
a quality world map

tons of texture and lighting mods
among them:

Skyrim HD 2k for general textures
aMidianBorn Book of silence for higher res equipment
No more blocky faces! (if you want to stick to the vanilla player and npc models)

some ENB depending on what your computer can handle

Falskaar (an awesome new lands mod, basically a whole new DLC for free)

+

everythingh you can think of you want changed, theres probably a mod for it.

Thanks for the reply!

I understand this is a pretty broad topic and one that's heavily based in user preference so I'm not expecting a whole lot. I'm just hoping people recognize the mods I've mentioned (specifically #1-4) because while I'm actively trying to find them, more brains are better than one.

I'm also looking for "essential" mods, like the Unofficial Patches.

The only thing I'm really looking for preference on is just texture/cosmetic mods. I'm probably not interested in mods like Falskaar, that add content, just yet. I just want to get a foundation going first. :p

The first one you want is called Alternative Start - Live Another Life, the second could be Requiem - The Roleplaying Overhaul, the third would be Frostfall - Hypothermia Camping Survival and Realistic Needs and Diseases, for the fourth you could go with Deadly Dragons, the fifth one should be in Heavy Armory - New Weapons, the sixth could be Stealth Skills Rebalanced - Sneak - Lockpicking - Pickpocket, and the seventh would be XCE - Xenius Character Enhancement for characters, and something like Project EBN for the world. As for personal preference, I always suggest getting the Unofficial Patches to start, and I also have a couple of what I call quality of life mods like Glowing Ore Veins 300, No Leveled Item Rewards, and quest markers mods for the Stones of Barenziah and the Dragon Priest Masks. And one more thing, a lot of those mods will need SkyUI in order to operate properly.

...that was an effort to put together.

MVP right here.

Alternative Start was absolutely the one I was thinking of, thank you.
And after watching a video series about Requiem, I'm 90% sure that's also the mod I was thinking of. And man, does it go further than I was initially aware of... :)

A lot of the mods I would recommend have already been mentioned above. XCE is a must for better looking characters.

Now here is my tip:

JK's Skyrim! Enhances all cities and settlements really nice. You can get the whole package or select each settlement individually.

And my absolute favourite mod so far: Interesting npcs!

Then, though you're not specifically looking for it, but I love custom houses. The best IMO are Elysium Estate, Mammoth Manor, Riverside Lodge, Leaf Rest... also Ridgeview House (stunning location!) and very special: ClearSky Hideout. All these except Ridgeview house come with a lot of custom functions and animations.

JK's Skyrim is really heavy on performance if you got some visual enhancements and your computer is not a beast tho.
Not trying to disagree or anything, just a warning.
