Hey guys! So I recently bought Skyrim via PC download which means I have to access the game through Steam. Anyway, my game is apparently trying to update but is stuck saying "Update Paused". Every time I try to make it continue or try to play the game it updates to 100% but then continues to say update paused. I am not a technology person by far and am not really a gamer either (I just love Skyrim) but I have searched and google this and have tried various things to fix it, none of which have worked. I have deleted all files except steam.exe and steamapps before opening steam again. That didn't work. I verified the game cache which told me "2 files failed to validate and will be acquired" but otherwise, did nothing. I don't know how to fix that either or really know what that means. I also uninstalled and reinstalled steam. I even uninstalled and reinstalled skyrim. I'm still getting the same update message. Anyone know how to fix this? I'd really like to play my game again. If you do have a suggestion please be very clear on it. Like I said, I am not technologically savvy, but I am really good at following directions if they're clear. Thanks

Strange, since Steam Verify Game Cache is a process that usually fixes any lost files (it redownloads them if they are missing, usually solving the problem)

Considering you've uninstalled and reinstalled, with no luck, you could try running everything (including steam) through administrator, basically have to change the properties of skyrim exe, steam exe to "Run as administrator"

Administrator is just a way of running something without any blockages from protectional programs, or security software.

So you want to right click on the steam, skyrim icons, go to properties, run as administrator should be there. Make sure they arent shortcuts, and actually the .exe files, a shortcut is just a quick way of running an exe, by running a shortcut as administrator, you wont be running the actual .exe as administrator (which is what you want)

so Steam.exe and Skyrim.exe should be in their folders - Steam is in Programfiles/Steam/Steam.exe Skyrim is in ProgramFiles/Steam/steamapps/common/Skyrim/Skyrim.exe I think.

If this doesnt prove results, and the game still doesnt update, there are other possible solutions

It could be an antivirus blocking you from downloading all the files, in which check they are disabled temporarily.

Possibly Running the skyrim Application on a USB stick (copy files to usb from steam folder - try running?)

Also

Try Googling "Skyrim Update Paused" theres bound to be someone out there who has had the problem, hopefully with a solution.

Only do that if the above had no results. Can't do much else helpwise since I've not personally encountered the issue.

Steam itself could be the problem, reinstalling steam could fix its updating process and perhaps get you past that 100%.

Running as administrator didn't work and there is no antivirus program blocking the download. I have googled it several times and everyone says the same thing. I have tired everything. I have also reinstalled steam which also didn't work.
