I've started working on a fanfiction now, but I'm not sure if I'll post it yet. I want to be further along and sure I'm going to finish it first. It has a working title of Family Loyalty and a brief summary will be the Main Questline, Civil War (Imperial) Questline and Dark Brotherhood Questline told from the point of view of Quintus Navale (and yes, as Quintus does in game, in this fanfiction he will spend the majority of these questlines in the White Phial and later Lakeview Manor). This is the Dovahkiin I have created for this story:

Name: Allegra Helior

Race: Imperial

Age: 24

Features & Style: Pale eyes, long tawny hair Quintus describes as the same shade as Jazbay grape leaves, and tanned skin. She always wears practical clothing and hates being without her bow and daggers.

Main Skills: Archery, Sneak & Alchemy

Personality: She has natural charm and cheerfulness so is good at making people she meets like her, but doesn't form strong friendships easily. Part of this is because she is not very good at thinking the consequences of her actions through, and part of this is because her dragon soul has bequeathed her a tendency to explosive uncontrolled wrath.

Fight or Flight: Fight. Thanks to that Dragon soul she often escalates fights to violence and fights to the death.

Factions: Hunter, and during the course of the story the Legion and the Dark Brotherhood.

Likes: Lydia, Quintus Navale, Sofie, the Argonian Dockworkers, being outdoors, hunting, archery and alchemy.

Dislikes: Being indoors or in a city for long periods, the Shatter-Shields and Rolf Stone-Fist, the Greybeards (but not Paarthurnax) the Blades, Rikke and General Tullius (she is convinced all those 'special missions' they gave her because she would be 'wasted as a regular soldier' were attempts to get her killed or captured).

Backstory: Allegra was born to a family with many members, so money and food were short. She started hunting as a way of helping out with this in her teens, upon which she discovered she really enjoyed being away from people, stalking prey and engaging in life or death battles. Eventually she stopped going home at all. She was hunting when she came across the Imperial ambush and was mistaken for a Stormcloak supporters.

In-game story: Jarl Balgruuf gave Allegra his precious niece Lydia as a Housecarl right after she was called by the Greybeards as he figured she'd spend the rest of her life there, not putting his precious niece in any danger.

Unfortunately for him Allegra decided that the fact the Greybeards sent her away to fetch a missing horn after three hours of teaching when their members always stay for life meant they didn't like her. Aware that the nobly born, unsneaky Lydia would have trouble adjusting to the life of a hunter and that their only real skill was killing, they joined the Legion.

Allegra met Quintus and Sofie while passing through Windhelm doing Legion business, making more efforts at disguise as the questline escalated. After the Imperial victory she bought Hjerim to be close to them, but hated city life so much she eventually allowed Lydia to coax her into meeting with whoever took the horn and then finishing the main questline, taking time out to repair the White Phial for Nurelion.

After saving the world she decided that she wanted to retire to Lakeview Manor with her housecarl and family, but to do that she needed money. So she decided to join the Dark Brotherhood, a decision that had a lot of unfortunate ramifications for a lot of people.

Lesli Wallace's character card can be found in my signature. For the sake of lazy people like myself, I've re-posted it below.

basic details

Full name, alias, title:

For nineteen years in High Rock, this character was known as Mhairi Jealhard. Her name has changed a second time, this time at the beginning of the dragon crisis in Skyrim. For the time being, she goes by the name Lesli Wallace. She has no current aliases other than “Breton” or “girl.”

Gender, race, age in years:
Lesli is a woman. As quoted from the website Call of Time, "Note that in Tamriel, Earth's medieval gender roles are practically nonexistent." Therefore, Lesi sex in any province should not raise any eyebrows unless noted otherwise. Lesli is a Breton. Bretons are the half-breeds of the Nedic and Aldmer peoples. The elven blood has since diminished. Bretons are naturally skilled in magic and are renouned for bizarre traditions and lethal court intrigue. Due to her manmeri blood, Lesli's ears are slightly pointed.

Age, date of birth, birthsign:
Unfortunately, Bretons do not inherit elven longevity. Lesli is currently twenty-three (23) years old. She was born on the 2nd of Frostfall, 4E 179. The Tower constellation reigns highest in the sky during the month of Frostfall. Those born under the Tower sign share a gift with locks and for finding valuable objects.

personal details

Sexuality, religion:
Lesli considers herself to be heteosexual. Her religion consists of the Nine Divines and three specific deities. Akatosh teaches that endurance in politics - an important trait in High Rock nobility - results in success. She respects and is academically interested in Magnus, god of sorcery and architect of Nirn. Sheor is the Breton god that is the source of all strife. He is thought to be a demonic version of the Nordic god Shor, and was born during the dark years after the fall of Saarthal. Lesli is likely to blame Sheor for any unnatural coincidences. This section is subject to change due to encounters that may give her reason to question her sexuality or religion.

Current residence:
Lesli does not currently have a permanent residence in Skyrim. Until she finds such a place, she will spend nights at the inn or on the road. It is for this reason that she keeps a leather tent, firewood, linen wraps, apples and water in her backpack when planning to travel. At inns, she is likely to socialize lightly with residents, but not other travelers.

Afflictions:
Lesli is not currently afflicted by any diseases, mental afflictions or other health issues. This section is subject to change due to encounters in which Lesli might contract an affliction.

Occupation, affiliations:
For much of her life, Lesli has wondered what happens to the souls that, theoretically, are recycled into their given race's respected afterlife. Lesli has long since adopted an interest in the magics and functions of draugr as they relate to Sovngarde, one supposed afterlife. She has not and does not intend to explore Nordic burial crypts alone. She is interested only in the functionality of magic, the power of Magnus, not its destructive or constructive uses. In short, Lesli is a scholar on the theory of magic as it relates to draugr. Her experience with magic as a Breton allows her to recognize enchantments on armor pieces, jewelry and weapons. Before she crossed the border into Skyrim, she was a student in the theory of magic. She is currently in contact with, and a student at, the College of Winterhold.

Political views:
As a general rule, Lesli leaves the politics regarding the civil war to the natives of Skyrim. In High Rock, Lesli was born and raised around political intrigue. It is because of this political intrigue that Lesli is now in Skyrim, having changed her name twice in about four years. She finds the presence of political struggle in Skyrim to be relatively normal, albeit lacking in flavor. The Bretons are renowned for utilizing politics as a form of warfare; Lesli is no exception. However, it is her incompetence in the political Game that has caused her such strife and ousted her from her homeland. Her political dexterity has been weakened during the years she has spent away from Breton society. Lesli's political views will be further developed later on through in-character interactions.

Physical details:
Appearance is very important in High Rock, as it reflects your social status. Mhairi is meticulous about her appearance, and takes insults to her appearance close to heart. She works only with her natural appearance. She believes that nobody is truly ugly unless they mistreat their appearance. She keeps her armor clean and may spend many hours caring for a weapon or shield. To Lesli, this is as much a spiritual habit as it is simple cleansing.

Physically, Lesli is capable. Like most carriors, she is keen on utilizing exercise to keep her body fit and prepared for battle. This was also a key factor in High Rock society, as letting oneself go "soft," including at an old age, was looked down upon. Imperials are renowned for allowing their elderly to become disabled. Imperials are generally looked down upon by Bretons, including Lesli, for this reason. Keeping your body in shape is as important as keeping your mind clear of illusions.

Lesli has gone through numerous physical transformations since she left High Rock. Since she entered Skyrim, she cut her straight, dull, dark-brown hair so that it touches her shoulders. She has light grey eyes and an oval-shaped face. A scar mars the right side of her face; it angles diagonally so that it cuts from under her right cheekbone to the right side of her chin. Below is a URL of Lesli's face and the upper portion of her armor (Apotheus armor from the Immersive Armors mod):

history

A minor house in High Rock (Wayrest), the Jealhard family deals with foreign trade. High Rock tradition demands that all houses remain politically active. A proud native Breton, Mhairi's father worked her and her family hard to ensure that this remains so. For nineteen years, she was pushed to uphold the standards of her well-to-do father. He was a stern man, kind at times. She could not look at him and call him father as would a pampered Imperial child. High Rock looks down upon weakness in the family. The houses have no time for smiles and sweetcakes. He talked down to his children and often yelled, but he never physically harmed Mhairi or her younger brother. Her father fought battles with words, not violence.

Her brother did not always see eye-to-eye with his father's means of action, but he always approved of the reasons for action. His patience underranked his father's, but they shared in Breton pride and ambition. Her brother acted much like their father, but he was not a bad man. Like the Altmeri racial pride, her father and brother believed that manmeri were the best of the races, destined to fight for dominance. The Aldmeri Dominion were violent in their mission; this is why they will fail, and the more subtle approaches of the Bretons will succeed. Her father was quieter about his beliefs, less bold about them than her brother was. Mhairi did not follow their beliefs. The races were created to be separate and peaceful, not cooped into an Empire. She dislikes practically everything about the Imperials, from their customs to the Empire itself. Nonetheless, where her father and brother believed that war leads to prosperity for High Rock, she believed that peace benefits all races.

Their mother worked on trade ships at the main harbor to deliver and retrieve foreign shipments. She spent most of her time at home. Mhairi treasured the time that her mother was home; it was a breath of fresh air, up until her father coops her in their bedroom. She could hear them whispering beyond the door.

Like most native Bretons, Lesli was schooled privately. At a young age, she showed interest in magical theory. Where her brother treasured competition, Mhairi preferred progressing at her own rate without a win-lose chance. She was not particularly popular amongst the lesser houses, nor was she disliked.

When she was nineteen (19) years old, Mhairi was separated from her family and removed from High Rock. It was no secret that she was interested in the magical structure of Nirn and, in this case, the magical functions of the afterlife. Her father had gone to a council meeting and left her and her brother at the family home. Her mother was bound to be home in a few hours, and her brother had locked himself into his bedroom. Unable to stay within the house and tempted by the clear outside weather, she left the house and headed towards the town square.

She wandered around the neighborhood marketplace, browsing wares. Several hours later, she began to return home, hoping that her mother might be there when she returns. Upon returning home, she found her mother speaking to three guards at the front door. Mhairi does not like speaking of this. She was framed for the murder of a male Nord. His name was Haldir, and he had been here long enough to be considered part of Wayrest culture. His corpse had been found on a street corner that she had passed on the way home but did not pass through. Somebody had to take the blame. Her father was furious, and for once Mhairi truly feared for her safety at his hands. Her brother was silent; her mother could not keep silent. Two days later, Mhairi was moved from a temporary cell in Wayrest to a boat to Anvil, Cyrodiil. Most criminals were kept at the prison, but it was currently going under reconstruction. To provide herself the hope of starting life anew away from her family and High Rock, she changed her name to something more Imperial - to Lesli Wallace.

Lesli hated Cyrodiil, although the land itself held a certain charm. She avoided large Imperial settlements and settled in at a small northwestern town. She received her facial scar when travelling from Anvil to Chorrol; the mage that wielded the knife, desperate as she was and garbed in a black robe, fell to a gut wound. Like many things, Lesli did not question the reason for the attack. Why bother? Chorrol became what Wayrest could not be for her. She found work as a tavern wench and had an interest in becoming a bard. She trained from time to time at the local Fighter's Guild, as bards need to be able to handle themselves legitimately in combat. She had been trained in High Rock; techniques in Cyrodiil with a blade and small blunt weapons were vastly different than they were in High Rock. She adapted to the Cyrodiilic fighting style, although she was never truly comfortable.

She spent much time at the local Mage's Guild, spending most of three years covering her homesickness with work on understanding magical theory. As much a home as Chorrol had been for her, she was still unhappy in Cyrodiil. She sold the house, gathered her notes, and attempted to legally cross the border to the province Chorrol was closest to: Hammerfell. She was caught by Imperial authorities. There were apparently some lasting conflicts between Redguard rebels and Imperial soldiers defending the White-Gold Concordat; despite the Hammerfell treaty, some were still unhappy.

Lesli then attempted to cross the border to Skyrim. Oddly enough, there were no Imperial patrols here. She had not heard of the new civil war in Skyrim. Mhairi did not have the misfortune of being ambushed with Stormcloak rebels. Technically, she was an illegal foreigner, but she did not see things this way. She was now in Skyrim, and interested to see what it can offer her.

It seemed to be either too cold or too hot. The smaller towns held nothing of interest to her, and the majority of large settlements were just not befitting. Word of dragons began to circulate; she pushed it off as stupid Nordic superstition. Recently, Lesli was informed that Solitude was a more Imperial settlement in Skyrim, where the sun shines warmly, most of the time. It was expensive, though. Figuring that expensive was better than cold or covered in mosquitos, she is currently preparing for a trek to Solitude.

Here are my two newest characters (Feel free to do whatever you want with them).

first, my Nightblade:
  • Name: Jerian Ashcroft
  • Race: Breton
  • Skillset: Illusion, Conjuration (bound Weapons mainly), Sneak, One handed, Archery, light armor
  • Orientation: Heterosexual
  • Religion: Prefers Arkay.
  • Bio: Jerian was born and raised among the nobles in the City of Daggerfall, High Rock. When He came of age, his father introduced him to a group called the Shadows of High Rock, a group made up of the lords of High Rock. The group observed and tried to manipulate events in their people's favor. Jerian was sent to observe the situation in Cyrodiil, to see if High Rock needs to take over the Empire. He posed as a mercenary to do just that. One day, a fellow agent found him to tell him of the Civil War, and told him that the Shadows wanted him to keep an eye on the Civil War, and let them know who wins. He gets caught by the Empire and sentenced to death.
And my warrior/white knight:
  • Name: Irinwe, formerly known as Ayrenn.
  • Race: Altmer
  • Skillset: Two handed, Heavy Armor, Smithing, Archery, Alteration, Restoration
  • Orientation: Wouldn't you like to know
  • Religion: currently Atheistic, Formerly Auri-el
  • Bio: Growing up in The Summerset Isles/Alinor, Irinwe was known as Ayrenn (no relation to Queen Ayrenn of Elder Scrolls Online). She was a member of a group of "knights" called the knights of Auri-el. The order forbids relationships outside of platonic friendships. She got kicked out of the order for having a sexual relationship with a female Altmer Wizard/Scholar. After getting kicked out of the group, Ayrenn left her homeland and went to Cyrodiil. Going by Irinwe, She fought, drank, and skirt-chased through life. She discovered Cyrodiil to be too tame for her, so left for Skyrim.

Rewrote their backstories A bit, and fixed the skills for the characters

  • Name: Alessia (named after the saint Alessia)
  • Race: Imperial

She was taken in by a priest at the temple of her hometown, Chorrol. She grew up learning the arts of healing as a priestess. She began to be fed up with the passiveness of the church, so turned to secretly training in the arts of a warrior by members of the fighters guild. She then swore an oath of loyalty to the people of Tamriel and became a crusader, seeking to end the threat of drkness and corruption in the world. She developed a great friendship with the barbarian Jurgald and the Breton noblewoman Witch Hunter Ysanna Moorcroft. The trio would often find and kill necromancer covens and daedric cults. She heard of the troubles in Skyrim so decided to help the people there, as a warrior
And my Witch Hunter:

One day she received news that her partner's family was attacked while they were travelling. Finding out that they were killed and her lover sacrificed to a Daedric prince for power, Ysanna chose to take up the art of archery and stealth in order to fight those who harm the innocent. She gave up her noble status to her sister, in order to take up life as a witch hunter. She traveled to Cyrodiil and hunted down necromancers and daedric cults alongside the barbarian Jurgald and the crusader Alessia. She decided to travel home to meet up with her family, or to find a lovely woman and settle down with, when she found herself around Darkwater Crossing
Added a third person to this little crew:
  • Name: Jurgald
  • Race: Nord
  • Skillset: Two handed (Battle Axes), Light Armor, Smithing (Barbaric tools), Archery (mainly to deal with dragons), Block, One handed (Tank Stance/Duel Wield)
  • Orientation: Likes women.
  • Bio: Jurgald was the son of a chieftain of a nordic barbarian tribe in the Jerall Mountains. His village was a warrior's town, with the men dealing with the physical tasks, and the women the spiritual and political tasks. He left to learn the art of Combat and Smithing, taking up work as a Bounty Hunter and Mercenary. He teamed up with the Imperial Crusader Alessia and the Breton Witch Hunter Ysanna Moorcroft in the fight against evil and darkness, which he considered a good fight, and a cause to get behind. When he grew bored of fighting the weaklings in Cyrodiil, he decided to head to Skyrim, looking for challenges.

I hope you guys don't mind that I throw my Oblivion character in here, he was my first successful Oblivion roleplay character after a 7 year break from tes IV. I usually play good or neutral characters, so this one was a big change for me.

Name: Akoro
Race: Dunmer/Imperial (his dunmer blood is much more obvious)
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Class/Factions: Assassin. In the past worked for a drug ring in Blacklight as a hired assassin. Worked free-lance for a while, and is now a Dark Brotherhood assassin.
Features: A sharp face with a lean build and jet black hair. Fair blue-grey. His good looks have proven to be an advantage.
Personality. Extremely selfish and very arrogant. Although he is not a serial killer Akoro will kill anyone who he gets on his bad side without qualm. He'll kill if it means gaining something and he is apathetic towards everyone except those who are in the dark brotherhood. Akoro enjoys nothing more than killing and being paid to do it. His desires include nothing but wealth and obtaining more contracts. He is very manipulative and can smooth-talk just about anyone.
Friends: None really except DB associates. Even then he just sees them as coworkers, but he looked up to Vincente Valtiere.
Fight or flight: Fight
Age: 23
Birthsign: Shadow

Backstory: is a Dunmer from Blacklight named Akoro. His mother worked as a bar attendant and resorted to selling herself in order to makes end meet. Akoro's father is a Imperial legionnaire who purchased her "services" on his way back home to Cyrodiil, impregnating her and leaving to never be seen again after that first, and obviously last encounter. Akoro's mother didn't even know his name. (So Akoro is actually half Imperial, and he is indeed aware of this as is his mother).

As Akoro's mother continued to sell her hard labor and already battered body, Akoro was raised by other bar attendants in her frequent absence as an infant. Akoro's mother had another child, Aranicar from another bar patron who was also an Imperial. From there on, he became a very unruly child, living among the streets while learning to use manipulation and violence to survive. (Akoro is also fortunate enough to possess great looks, as both of his parents were good-looking in their own right, and this continually proves to be useful in his endeavors).

A few days after Akoro turned 16, his mother was killed in the tavern by a drunken mercenary after she had accidentally spilled wine on his boots because of her physical exhaustion. Due to Akoro's absence and general indifference towards his mother, he did not learn of this until weeks later, even though he was criminally active within the same city. When he did find out, he really didn't care. Akoro never grew attached to anyone, least of all his mother, despite all the horrible things she endured to attempt to provide for him.

At this point, Akoro was peddling moon sugar for other dealers and wiping out rival factions in order to earn a living. Occasionally Akoro would use a share of moon sugar of his own and receive a large sum for taking out important targets who threatened their operation. He became known as a seasoned killer in the drug-trade, and by age 20 was pleased with the direction his life was headed. That's when he received a job to ensure a large shipment of moon sugar to the Cyrodiil province.

Akoro was tasked with accompanying 2 other gang members to the Imperial City in order to deliver to Matthais Draconis and his associates. Normally more gang members would be dispatched to help carry out a shipment this large, but the guards were cracking down on their operation and the ring leader found it best for them to remain as inconspicuous as possible.

Matthais Draconis was seen as an honorable man by the towns people of the Talos district, and was least suspected of running the flow of moon sugar into the city. After a long journey there, Akoro and his gang met with Matthais near the Waterfront district in order to exact the deal. Rather than pay the very copious amount of septims that was previously agreed upon, Matthais Draconis found it cheaper to bribe a group of guards for their assistance, and betray Akoro and his gang. They attempted to resist, and Akoro's companions were swiftly cut down. Akoro was knocked out by the blow of a shield and thrown into the Imperial prison. Matthais was a fool not to kill him.

It wasn't until 2 years later and a long painful moon sugar withdrawal that Akoro was transferred cells, yet it was not a day later that Uriel Septim and the Blades opened his holding block and changed his life once again. After saving Martin Septim from the siege of Kvatch (with the original intent of holding him for ransom), Akoro exacted his revenge on Matthais Draconis and was visited by the Dark Brotherhood.

I'll hold on the rest as to prevent spoilers, but if you've completed the DB in Oblivion you can probably guess the rest.

---
I'm actually making a new character that is Akoro's younger brother who is traveling to Cyrodiil in order to find out what happened to him. He's more of a true neutral type and is a Nightblade. I won't post his story cause it's not finished and Akoro's was long enough, but I like making connecting play-throughs that can be "canon" to each other by being selective with quest lines and such.

This thread is awesome. I need to reallt think of a decent backstory for the character I am playing currently. I have never really been able to RP very well. I do, however, find the idea romantic and believe it would make my experience more fun. I often just don't know where to start. I get soooo easily distracted in Skyrim.

It is fun, especially choosing guilds based on the character and deciding the reason for the actions in game. Starting to work on my characters, so will fix their profiles up.

After reading some of the posts here I can only say... damn, am I the only one who didn't make a backstory for his character?

I tried, honestly. I really, really tried to think up a story for my characters, but the best I can come up every time is "I am a lumberjack who got caught by the Empire, yadda yadda".

I guess I lack creativity.

So she ventured to Whiterun and made her way to Jorrvaskr where she joined up with The Companions and built her strength. Both wise in magic and skilled in strength she finally decided to venture forth and become the Protector and High Queen of The Island Of Solstheim, creating a new life for all and destroying anyone who opposed her.
