Hello everyone,

After a few weeks of having a life, I decided to go back to playing Skyrim. My previous game save was just fine, but when I clicked "new game" nothing happened. I was taken to the loading screen where I got to stare at the Skyrim logo, while listening to the soundtrack waiting for something to happen.

Important to know is that I use mods. Also important to know, is that I verified the integrity of the game cache on Steam. Last time I was playing the game, things seemed to be alright. No update has been installed, nor have I downloaded any new mods. Basically, nothing changed. Yet a new game doesn't work.

Do any of you have any idea how to solve this?

Cheers

EDIT: When I verified the game cache, the game said it was missing one file and will reacquire it. However, when I run the thing again; I get the exact same notification. So it says it will reacquire the file but apparantly doesn't.

Well I had this problem on the Xbox 360, but I don't know how it works on the PC. But I'll post what I did just in case somehow you can do it.

All I did was delete a previously corrupted save file (my last save) and installed the game to my Hardrive. I guess for the PC, I would try deleting the last save and transferring a copy of it to a flashdrive. Once that is done, just attach the flashdrive to the console and paste it on a file. Now you can play it, however you need to have the flashdrive connected. I hope this helped. :D

I think a corrupted file can happen sometimes, as this did happen to me once, and had to reload game for some reason my Pc was updating computer and removed files which was surprising to me. It was a good thing there was a backup copy and my game was saved to that and when opened it up it worked and was able to play the game. I think on the PC more glitches occur could be due to the computer or it is warm and causing errors and needs a rest has happened to me while playing screen moving or some scenes not happening and than after a while it works good.

Wait, does your previous save work? Can you get into the game? Or do you get the infinite loading screen with that as well?

If you run the game without mods, are you able to start a new game? If so, you may need to work through your list of mods, disabling them one-by-one to see which mod is causing the problem, specifically. From there, you can either decide to remove the mod or see if the developer has any updates or fixes available.

The joys of mods is that sometimes they fix one thing and break another. Sometimes, they break everything. Sometimes, they steal change off the dresser and knock your daughter up.

Mods don't cause a new game not to start, unless you use two conflicting Helgen intro replacers. Usually, however, that would result in an immediate CTD and LooT would lose it's mind when ran. If it is just an infinite load screen that is happening with new games AND is happening with old ones, you may need to check your SKSE folder wherever your mods are located and make sure the memory patch is there. If you want to start a brand new game, it would probably be a good idea to do a fresh install of skyrim anyway, especially if you don't use Mod Organizer. A fresh data folder is always the best way to start new games. You can leave your mods installed and just reactivate them once you have reinstalled skyrim.

I verified the intergrity of the game cache. This wasn't always effective. After trying about 3 times it worked, all of the sudden. Very strange.

Still, grab those patches. They are lifesavers. SkyUI is a game changer as well.

Well I semi know what the problem is if you have any alternate start mods, I suggest you disable them.
If that's not the problem, it's some other mod messing around with quests.

I had this problem before and it was always a alternate start mod. Then randomly, the alternate start mod worked.

That's taken from the live another life alternate start mod.
This is generally what messes it up. Those extra files.
Help! I'm stuck at the main menu starting a new game!
-----------------------------------------------------

Skyrim version 1.9.32.0.8 or greater is REQUIRED for this mod. Be sure you're using that first. Update through Steam if necessary. Older versions of the game are not supported.

Mods that make large scale blanket changes to either essential flags or quest item flags may be blocking you from playing.

Check the Data\Scripts folder and make sure there are no copies of the following files:

dunPostHelgenEnableScript.pex, QF_MQ101_0003372B.pex, QF_MQ102_0004E50D.pex, TIF__000D50CA.pex, TIF__000D50DB.pex, or TIF__000D50E0.pex

If these files are present, they will break the quest controls for Live Another Life. You'll need to figure out which packages installed these since they would only come from mods. Skyrim's own
files are in Bethesda's BSAs and get overridden by the ones in my BSA.

Verify its placement in load order. This mod should be loaded near the end of the list, not the beginning. LOOT has it placed appropriately and should be used if you are in doubt.

Just for future references though. I saw you fixed it.

Something is wrong with the way Skyrim is accessing your menus, causing the crashes. Some of these are old bugs associated with memory allocation and certain mods (armor and weapons are common culprits).

I'll ask again, do you have the unofficial patches? Do you use SkyUI? The port that is Skyrim has buggy and glitchy menus at the best of times, game-breaking at worst.

These were the mods I used. I kind of lost track of what I had installed, so I deleted everything and am now going to re-download the mods that I actually need and use.
To prevent me from making the same mistakes that I (apparantly) made last time; are there certain things I have to keep in mind? Or mods that I need to download in a specific order or mods that you recommend?

Well, your data folder is going to be a mess, and here is the issue, even with "safely" uninstalling mods and reinstalling them en masse.

Take frostfall for example, script heavy, adds a few resources to the game, but according to the mods page, safe to uninstall. All good, right? Sure. if frostfall is the only mod you have installed. However, issue arise in your data folder once files are installed that can overwrite things in other mods, thus leaving weird stuffs in your data folder and those leftover files from script heavy mods like FF, or even enhanced blood textures can cause orphaned scripts to build up and corrupt a save.

When doing a "Blow it all to hell and start over" you should consider re-installing skyrim, there are just so many things that can go wrong. If you DO choose to re-install skyrim. Maybe take the evening and do some research on Mod Organizers. I can find some videos if you'd likem but it will prevent you from ever having to worry about corrupting your data files ever again.

If you don't want to install MO, I still think you should do a fresh install, as for installation order, I usually stick to this.

1) Unofficial Patches + Cleaning Skyrim's master files.

2) General fixes (Distant Decal fix for example, NOT patches for other mods.)

3) Interface Stuff (SkyUI, iHUD, etc.)

4) Graphics and Landscape stuffs

5) Weapons and Armor

6) Gameplay (Frostfall, wet and cold, iNeed <- Better than RND)

7) Sound

8) Patches

9) Kill Stuff!!!!

Are you using LooT to sort your mods? your load order should look something like this at the top.
