So I did the quest where you kill the emperor for the Dark Brotherhood and I thought the fight on the Kartiliah would be more trouble than it really was, so I took Vilkas with me. The first time I finished the quest, I killed the emperor and then Vilkas became an enemy immediately and began to attack me. His notable dialogue line was "Weren't expecting that, were you?" and I'm confused as to why he attacked me after I killed the emperor and as to what he was referring to in the dialogue line -- whether I didn't expect him to attack me as an individual after the quest completed or I didn't expect his sword to strike me as a physical attack.

Ohh.. you mentioned his scars, didn't you? :oops:

I think this may be one of the known bugs with Vilkas, Aela, and Farkas having guard AI packages. If you do anything underhanded, or if you have a bounty, it may cause them to attack you.

Ohhh, that makes sense. I was curious if it was because I asked Vilkas to follow me for another faction's quest, too?

Yeah, lots of quest related allies or from factions such as companions, you have to watch what you do when they are around because they may become hostile toward you.

Hirelings or people who offer their services allow you to do most things, depending on the specific NPC's crime tolerance level they wil either, react aggressively, or do nothing at all.

Its the ones that accept everything, you want following you.

Its funny, when I enter a place I shouldnt be in, like someones house after hours, Vilkas, and a few other glitched NPC's will say to me;

"You're not supposed to be in here!"

Usually in response, I will shield bash them in the face for such rudeness towards their Master.
