finding out about the beacon is high on my list!
i used lydia as a companion a bit, but i found that i did better without her ruining me sneaking around :/
i might look for someone better suited.
i bought the house in whiterun, and now i'm looking at where i go next. woke up in markath after a drinking competition in whiterun :D so i might go there next after doing the beacon thing. i also have things to deliver to riften, where i'm keen on doing the thieves guild anyways.
i also got a message from falkreath to go help out there, a quest to join the vampirekillers, and a quest to find out more from the dragonshout people. So many decisions :)

noobquestion of the day: did i understand correctly, that any items not on the leveled items list will be the same strength no matter when i obtain them?
aand is it considered cheating to install a mod that enables the player to upgrade leveled items?
would love to have all the nightingale stuff, but not sure if i should wait for level 46. on the other hand, there are probably better things to wear later anyways?

Stuff like the Nightingale Bow where its strength depends on the level you are when you obtain it are pretty rare. I know there are others like that but off the top of my head I can't recall any. Maybe Ebony Mail. But they're very rare anyway.

You won't get the Nightingale Armour/Bow until late in the TG quest line so you could definitely start with the Thieves Guild now and make some progress if you want to hold off til level 46. I certainly wouldn't consider it cheating to let the bow's enchantments level with you, assuming you're just upgrading it when you reached the required levels

However, you could definitely do better than Nightingale armour at level 46 if you crafted your own with the right perks in enchanting, two enchantments on everything and good fortify enchanting potions (that you can make with high level alchemy).

Nightingale Armour looks awesome though. You can make better enchantments and stronger armour but you can't achieve anything that looks quite the same.

Is there a mod out there where you can get unenchanted Nightingale? I love the look. I often enchant unenchanted DB stuff but would love to do the same to Nightingale.

I play on a 360 so I've got no idea, but I reckon someone must have done it! It's a good idea for a mod anyway.

I hate DB gear... so ugly

Good day :)

Thought I'd post some updates, and add some questions / thoughts.

So I've been playing a lot these past days. I'm level 42ish now if I remember right. I've done thieves guild, dark brotherhood, (yay for 30x sneak power attacks :D), got the Black Star, did the mages college, which I didnt want but had to to get all three parts of slow time, did the beacon, and various other smallish quests, for example the bards college and the one with the book with +5 perk points to various things.
I'm wearing all quest rewards (some of the better shrouded stuff from the quest from whiterun, nightingale chestpiece, nightingale bow, blade of woe, and a random ebony dagger i found).
And I'm feeling fairly powerful already. Although i haven't really leveled the crafting skills at all. A bit on the side, but theyre all at or below 50ish. So I haven't crafted any OP armour, potions or enchantments.
I maxed out sneak, put all the points that I want in archery, put some points in one handed to imrpove those sneak attacks, power leveled alteration to get stability to improve slow time, and leveled illusion a tiny bit so that I can cast slow time while sneaking.
Pretty much everything I can sneak up to dies from one sneak power attack.

I wanted to start really levelling the crafting stuff today, but then I thought "why, if nothing can really stop me already". So I have to make a decision: start crafting and increase the difficulty (maybe drastically, depending on how good the things are I'll craft), or continue like this and maybe increase the difficulty just a tiny bit.
Also I'm not sure if i should bring the crown to the imperials or back to ulfric (?), and if I should do that now or after the mainquest. Also, when to start the DLC quests :D

Oh another question: Are all the containers in the houses you buy safe? So far I've been stuffing everything into one chest in Breezehome, but its getting a little difficult to find thigns so I've been wondering if I can use all the containers in there.

Yep.
I think that was it for now.
Thanks again guys, for not making a noob feel like useless trash :)

Edit: already thinking about my next character, too.
Is conjuration a viable damage source?
thinking about a conjuration/illusion/alteration caster type.

You can use any container in a house you own without the items disappearing after a while. I use separate containers for different types of item. Different chest/barrels for weapons and armour; ore, leather, strips etc; soul gems and jewelry; ingredients; potions I want to sell later. Any container will do, a sack is as good as a chest or barrel

Conjuration is good to complement another form of attack but wouldn't be enough on its own. I've played through the game twice on legendary and the first time I used a sword/shield warrior who summoned atronachs before every fight, it's a great combo

Conjuration is enjoyable, especially once you get to where you can summon two atronachs. I'd raise your difficulty to master, (I didn't notice enough of a difference going from adept to expert), and start crafting. You may not need powerful weapons, but that's part of the rush of the game, creating your own unique weapons with which you build the lore of your character. When you enchant, you even get to name the item, and it allows for a large number of characters. I had a build that named everything after celebrities: Boots of Gene Hackman, Armor of James Gandolfini, McCluster's Ring... You can certainly have a lot of fun with it! :beermug:

I keep wondering what this obsession is with multiple companions - be they dead thralls, antronachs or whatever. If I want to be burdened with multiple people with me, I'll play Dragon Age or Dragon's Dogma.

What if you actually want to do something sneaky? Why would you want to just walk in and do nothing and let your conjurations or followers do everything. I realize that we 'Mericans just love to have somebody else do our work for us, but it just seems lazy.

Don't get me wrong, on higher difficulties it's nice to have someone to soak up damage and distract your enemies, but, at some point, it just gets boring for me. I WANT TO KILL THEM! I WANT TO DO SOMETHING! Just this once, I want to feel like I've done something other than sit on the trailer hitch drinkin' my moonshine while I send others in to danger while I just relax.

Just a difference in play styles, I reckon. I like to drink and watch my minions do battle, you like to run away from things! :beermug:

Actually I like to wade in and obliterate them myself. Since I use so many AoE spells, followers and conjured beings become pointless since they just get in the way. Give me a Falmer nest and spamming Ice Storm and/or Fireballs and I'm happy.

The only character I have that runs away is my Dunmer thief (and that's only because he's a coward and a thief - as are all thieves).

Soo I spent ~3 days leveling alchemy, enchanting and smithing, which raised my level to ~ 54.
Set the difficulty to legendary and was a bit scared...
But no need :D
<--- Enchanted, upgraded dragon gear is awesome
now I feel like I should progress with the story. I'll empty my questlog a bit and then go for solstheim, Dawnguard, civil war and main quest. Don't know in which order yet.
And I'll fit the daedric quests I haven't done yet in there somewhere aswell.
This is fun :)
