PS3 no dialogue box - at all - ever!

Hi

I bought Skyrim yesterday and set it all up (it updated, as most games do). I played it happily for a while, leaving the town, killing a bear, finding some stones, etc, all the time following my new bestest buddy towards the first village and Gerdur. However, when I got to the village I noticed the game wasn’t doing what it should be with regards talking to NPCs. When I look at an NPC their name shows and it says ‘X Talk to Gerdur’ (or whoever), but when I hit X all that happens is they say a load of sequenced phrases, which after a while get stuck in a ‘what’ ‘hmmm’ ‘yes’ cycle. At no point does a dialogue box open up. I’ve tried holding X, I’ve tried starting again, I’ve tried throwing the controller on the floor in a mood – nothing works…

Please help, before I throw this in the bin…

Were you following Ralof to Riverwood to speak with Gerdur in the beginning of the game or was it later?

Thanks for the reply
In the end I wiped the hard drive and reinstalled - this worked and all seems good now!
Assume the download didn't work or the disk didn't unpackaged properly to the hd.
Anyway, all good and I'm happily talking to people and killing things!

Ah well, have fun! If you've got any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!
