How do you backstab a Dragon?
If, as a mage, you were going to chose a mage companion to run around with you, pre Dawnguard (Serana), who would you chose.

Prerequisites:
1) Someone who is not going to constantly "get out in front" of you and suffer damage from your spells
2) Someone who is pleasant to be around (not some snotty elf or with annoying dialogue)
3) Someone who will complement a destruction/conjuration build
4) Someone who will except higher level robes
5) Someone who has good spells
6) Someone who's not a dim wit and constantly getting themselves killed
7) Someone who won't constantly kill you!

At level 80, I realize it's a little late for this consideration as all of the mage followers about would be far lower level, but I'm wondering who you would chose?

My considers are J'Zargo (I love his voice!), Mercurio (from Riften - I love his overconfidence) and then I get lost. Maybe the dorky Nord from the college (I forget his name - Floyd or something?)

On a side note - I've never tried so I don't know - can you turn your spouse in to a vampire so you can run around together? If that's the case, that would be another consideration as to who to chose. My mortal children need a father after all. Being raised by a Redguard she-devil and a gay bard probably isn't the best situation. :)

You can turn your spouse from a mission on the Vampire side of the Dawnguard DLC.

As for follower... I can't help but think of Belrand. He's a spellsword class, I can't remember what he summons but I think it's either a familiar or an atronach at higher levels. Proficient t light armor he also knows some destruction spells. He can hold out for a while.

As for a pure mage? The one at Darklight Tower to the south of Riften is your best bet. But her fiery spells may kill you. She tends to flank opponents though so I guess you won't have too much trouble with her getting in the way. She summons Atronachs, has a good balance of healing and destruction spells, and has a high health at late levels. I think she will accept robes. I believe that has the same voice actor as Elisif or Njada/Sybille. One of those two. She isn't arrogant either. She comes to you for help once discovered and needs aid for her uh... family problems.

One word of warning though. There is a glitch with her. If you dismiss her you can no longer recruit her back at the Tower. I don't know if they have patched this but it's a huge let down. Best to keep it in mind.

Thank you! I hadn't even thought of her. I was thinking of only the boys, but, why not a girl? After all, Ingin will be hanging with Serana. Now I just need to find a spouse that I can turn who'll still be useful. Hmm...

Can't help you there. Most of my characters aren't the marriage type :p

My Ingin's not either, but, I so rarely take my characters through the entire game (I'm trying to do that so I can move on to another game for a while - I hate leaving things undone!), that I thought I'd give that a shot. Earlier I was thinking of Farkas, but, Wolf to bloodsucker just didn't seem fair to me.
May I'll just have her marry the Nord Dork at the College and leave it at that. He'll be good enough to take care of the kids, and, given that he's gay, he'll love the house in Solitude and Ingin won't have to worry about him too much.

Dabs was on about Illia, a very powerful ice mage, I dont recall her summoning an atronach tho, even at level 40...with a staff of summoning she will.

Aranea ienith, conjuror azura Star quest.

Eola a sort of conjuror, good personality.

I like Eola, maybe I'll give her a try (after all, we do have similar taste in food :)). Maybe I'll give her a try. Aren't the other two elves? Aren't there any good MALE mages that aren't elves? Ingin is looking for a spouse, not just some hot and sweaty. :)

Male mages, most of the best mages are thralls, marcurio best bet.

Jzargho worst mage, he uses novice spells in preference over adept or Master....at lv 80+ he is the biggest dissapointment in regards to what he could have been if he used the spells he knew.

Hm. Must have got it wrong then. Could have sworn she had summons... Never the less she has a pretty good arsenal of spells. Forgot about the Priestess of Azura. She's pretty decent. I haven't used Eola so I have no idea how she is.

Marcurio is cool. I'll need to go get him when next I'm in Riften. Plus he's marriable and therefore turnable. We'll see! That's a shame about J'Zargo though. Love his attitude and voice, plus he feels warm all over when he sees me.

I can't stand Marcurio. He would constantly chain-lightning me. Eola is my favorite, very reliable, doesn't hit me with her spells, good with a sword. If you prefer a guy, go Valdimar. Haven't used him much, (I like ladies :beermug: ), but I've heard many positive responses regarding him, plus he's skilled in heavy armor, which may be unique among magic users.

He's the housecarl from Morthal, yes? That's a good idea. I understand he's pretty cool.

I agree with you that, in general I prefer female mages, but, on this build Ingin isn't about to get in a relationship with another girl and needs a big strong man that she can turn in to her eternal companion who can still kick some butt when needed.

Great suggestion. Thanks again!

Yeah, go Valdimar. He even looks tough, unlike Marcurio, and that Nord mage from the college!

At least Marcurio has an attitude. I swear the Nord from the College just wants to wear glitter and chase butterflies. :) Wait! Maybe that's why his family disowned him - not the whole magic thing - I mean, he isn't very good at it, after all. :)

I wouldn't discount...um...Illia? Ilda? Ilida? I forget. The girl in Darklight Tower who decided she'd had enough of being in a cult of witches and would rather kill her mother than have her turn into a Hagraven. Repentance was the quest name. I remember being impressed with her a while back when I used her. She used Ice Storm a lot, which was pretty devastating to enemies. She isn't marriageable, but you can make her a steward which will put her in a more convenient location.

Pretty much every housecarl is a reasonable choice for a main follower, simply because their stats are above par and exceed most ppl you come across, at Lv 40 They are only beaten by a few statwise, vilkas, mjoll, etc.

My housecarl in markarth, vlindrel Hall, Argis the Bulwark is another strong looking male who exceeds in OH, Heavy A, etc.

Ill post a link of a page that shows follower statistics in a table.

He's more of a spellsword, but I've enjoyed Teldryn Sero. Plus his voice is sexy. Okay, okay, so is he. I will also have to agree with Harkin on Arenea Lenith. She was satisfactory until I got Serana.

I like Serana but she kinda freaks me out. I talk to someone and then the conversation is about half over, she walks around and... stares at me. Then when I'm done talking to a person she stands front and center.

When I'm running a great distance and then turn around to see if she's coming I'm thinking:

"Where is she... Where is she... Oh! There she is! Hi Serana! Serana? You can stop now. You can--You can stop! You're going to run into me! ... Ok you are literally right in my face."

And when I'm standing around looking for something and turn around..

She is right. in. my face. Right at the end of my nose.

"Erm... Can I help you? I'm sorry but if it's a peck on the cheek you're looking for, Bethesda didn't put that in so you're out of luck."

Not to mention she shoves ice spikes up my butt.

What creeps me out is meeting her mother. According to the files, Bethesda fashioned them to have the exact same looks and slider stats (aside from the obvious older look on Valerica). I mean, they are like clones!

Anyway, for a mage:

Serana, Illiana (what's her face), Azura priest lady, Teldryn Sero

Warrior:

You should try out that guy that you give 20k gold to on Solsteim. Seriously! If you give him light dragonscale armor, two dragonbone swords... The guy is a whirlwind. He stops for NO ONE.
