    24th of Mid Year

    Nord/Imperial

    Single

    The Pirate Republic, His Crew

Afflictions: None that he knows of.

    Height: 6'2"

    Weight: 224 lbs

    Build:
He is very muscular and in shape. He has great endurance as well.

Hair Length: About shoulder length, but he pulls it up in a knot behind his head.

    Hair Color: Brown

Facial Hair: He has stubble, but he shaves when possible.

    Eye Color: Blue

Skin Color: Very tan. A few shades lighter than the skin of a Red Guard.

    Scars: He has a few

Face: Strong, Nordic structure, with hints of Imperial here and there.

Unique Features: He's was also unusually dark for a Nord, but this could be due to the fact that he was half Imperial as well. He has a burn mark on his left hand. His Extremely light blue eyes.

Tattoos: None, though he plans to get some at some point.

    Religion: The Nine Divines

    Patron Deity: Talos

Hobbies: Likes to hunt, fish, and spend time with his crew. Loves to drink, and doesn't get drunk often due to a high Metabolism and a High tolerance for alcohol.

Family: John Troien (Father: Deceased), Selea Torien (Mother: Deceased), Toryyg the Bear (Uncle: Alive), Helga Ilosi (Aunt: Alive)

Personality: Marek is a very laid back man. He likes to drink, and have fun. He is shy around women he thinks are attractive, but other than that, he is a very talkative person. Likes to make jokes, and can be sarcastic, too.

Attitude towards Crew: Marek is very fond of his crew. He would do anything for them, and does his best to take care of them. Indeed, he has done a few crazy things for the sake of his crew. Because of his deep devotion, his crew respect and likes him, and would follow him to the ends of Nirn and beyond, if that was possible.

Attitude to his Enemies: Marek is a relentless hunter, and he is relentless in combat, too. After boarding and subduing a ship, his tendencies tend to lean different ways depending on who owns the ship. Merchant Ships he tends to always let go, as there is no honor in killing unarmed, untrained people. The Empire and Dominion, however, he is pretty ruthless against. He tends to show a little more leniency to the Empire than the Dominion, however, after the enemy ship surrenders to him. Occasionally, he will ask if someone wants to join up with him.

Dislikes: Liars, Racists, Thalmor, The Aldmeri Dominion, The Empire

    Fears:
Disappointing his crew, letting his crew down

Aspirations: He hopes to one day Marry, and have children.

Quirks: He doesn't wear a typical outfit you would expect from a Pirate.

Armor: Marek wears a hide armor set, with chainmail, and tunic thrown over his upper body. The Coloration of it all is dark brown, almost black, and he has a hood he pulls up over his head that he added recently to amp up his scare factor in boarding actions (Plus it protects him from wind and rain).

Weapons: Marek's main weapon is a one-handed straight sword in his right hand, and a short sword in his left. He also carries two Flintlock Pistols.

Fighting Style - Land/on boarding actions: Marek prefers to get up close and personal. He will use his two handed combo's to carve into the enemy, and may even shoot off one of his pistols in the midst of melee combat. He is a master duelist, and has trained hard to master both one-handed combat, and it variations. He isn't the most accurate with guns, but he still tends to get the job done with them.

Ship to Ship battles: Marek lets the Relentless pound away on her enemies, she is fast, and hits hard, so he uses that to their advantage. He also has a flag for both the Dominion and the Empire, which he will also use to his advantage, as he will fly the flag, and sneak into enemy convoys, and then let out devastating first salvos, catching ships off guard. He will also use his reputation as "Death" to make ships give up, sometimes without even fighting.

    History/Biography:
Marek was born to his parents, who he didn't know to well at all. He new his father used to be an Admiral, and his mother had been a mercenary. His parents died for standing up against the current Emperor, who was not good at all, and his corrupted Government. The Emperor had them executed. Marek was handed off to his Uncle to be raised. Growing into a strong young man, Marek joined the Imperial Navy despite what happened to his parents. He always said he wasn't sailing for some rotten old Emperor, but for the people of the Empire. While Marek tended to have an attitude, he was an excellent sailor, and strategist, moving up the ranks, and earning the rank of Captain. His ship, "the Indomitable", was an excellently created brig, although a little on the small side. Marek would sail with his crew for a few years before his fleet came into contact with a Dominion fleet. A skirmish ensued between the small Imperial Fleet, and the larger Dominion one, and the Empire began to get battered. The admiral in charge of the Imperials ordered a retreat, and as they started to pull back, Marek noticed that a few of the Imperial Naval ships had gotten caught in a blockade by the faster dominion ships. Taking a quick vote with his crew, the Indomitable reversed course, and headed straight towards the enemy blockade. Breaking through the lines, the small brig ensued chaos in the dominion blockade, and it began to falter, allowing all of the Imperials to escape home, including the Indomitable. Upon his return, Marek was scorned and ridiculed by his admiral, who also happened to be related to the current Emperor. Many of the sailors stood up for Marek, but that didn't matter. Marek, frustrated with the admiral, punched him in the face. His temper had snapped, and he was going to pay for it. The Admiral had him arrested, and Marek was sent to prison. He was branded with the Traitors mark on his chest. The brand seared the traitors mark into his skin, leaving a permanent scar. It was while he was sitting in Prison that the Emperor made a clean slat through his entire military, removing every one not loyal to him, and replacing them with Loyal men and women. Marek was transferred to an Imperial prison vessel, along with many other sailors who were now "Traitors" to the Empire. The Prison vessel joined a small fleet, however, only a few days into their journey, the fleet was attacked by Dominion forces. Many of the ships in the fleet were sunk, and the Prisoners were taken hostage by the Dominion, being transferred to the Dominion Slave Ship, named "the Persecutor". It was hear that Marek first encountered Rord. Chained next to the big Argonian, the two plotted an escape plan. Finally, their time came. They got moved from a cage to the shackle bar for "Bad" Behavior. When they were left alone, they began to move the bar back and forth, until, finally, Rord just yanked as hard as he could, and the bar came free. Marek and Rord began to free other prisoners as well, and soon, they lead a revolt on the ship, taking it over (Quite easily in fact), Marek jumped to the helm, and twisted the wheel quickly. The Slave Ship lurched away from the Dominion fleet, and began to pull away faster as the Oarsmen down below extended, and began rowing. It didn't occur to Marek until after they had escaped that this ship was not only a slave ship, but carried a handsome amount of Gold as well in its cargo hold. When this truth came to pass, it shocked Marek, and Rord as well. Sailing to the Island of Stros M'kai, where there was rumored to be a group of men and women, of many different races, looking to be free of both the Empire and the Dominion. Arriving at Stros M'kai, Marek was voted into the position of Captain of this new crew, and Rord would be serving as his Quartermaster, and second in command. Using the gold they had looted to upgrade their new Brig, they joined up with the group of men and women who called Stros M'kai home... The Republic of Free Men. Adding many different modifications to the ship, which had been renamed "the Relentless", Marek and his crew began to sail alongside the men and women of the Republic, earning himself a reputation. At somepoint during this time, the people outside of the Republic took to calling him Death, and his ship was named "Death's Vessel". He uses this persona to his advantage, sometimes making ships surrender without even fighting.

Orien, your character is fine, but your ship... Quite simply, it's absurd. The size of a brig, the firepower of a frigate and the speed of a schooner. What in the hell could stand up to that? Certainly none of our ships could, and that means that I'm refusing your place until you replace that monster.

Looking over everyone's vessels I have some concerns about my ship. I have the only schooner and should have the fastest ship but Wolfbane and Orien have ships only 1 mile/hr slower than me and with twice the guns and more plating simply by virtue of a bigger ship class. Orien has THREE TIMES AS MANY and with metal armor. My little schooner simply can't match that, even with my thanix cannon. I'd like to increase my ship's speed from 29 mph to 40 mph. Have her be by far the fastest ship in the sea to compensate for being made of Popsicle sticks when taking 32 lb cannon fire.

    History:

    Childhood:
As a child Jayden was raised by his Imperial mother in Sentinel in Hammerfell. His father had left them at birth, and neither Jayden or his mother knew of his whereabouts, but his mother pushed upon him an Imperial way of life and thus raised him to worship the Eight Divines. He attended school as a normal child with a perfectly healthy lifestyle, and had many friends. He quickly developed a liking for money, carrying out simple tasks for citizens for a few spare coins. His education was good, and he was fully literate at the age of 10 while many of his classmates still struggled. In particular he took a liking to strategic board games, like chess, and would frequently play matches against his friends and older residents.

Early Teens: With his intelligence, Jayden's mother pushed him to travel to Cyrodiil and seek work as the scribe or court member of an influential Noble. However, Jayden began to develop an interest in fighting, and trained with the guards to master a variety of weapons, as well as working as a blacksmith's apprentice for a few years. By 15 he was frequenting bars and brothels, developing into a young adult much younger than many of his friends. His best friend at this point was an Orc he met when the pair united to beat down a harassing drunkard, named Gollishrug, later earning himself the nickname 'Lockjaw' after a fight left his jaw broken and thus stuck mostly in the same place, impeding his speech abilities. It was at 16, however, when a Redguard man named Radan arrived at Jayden's home, claiming to be his father. His mother confirmed this, and Radan revealed that he had spent the last 16 years as a pirate, pillaging in the Abecean. He had amassed a small fortune and handed much of this over the Jayden.

Late Teens: Radan was publicly executed by Imperial forces while Jayden watched at the age of 18. As his father's dying wish, Jayden inherited his father's ship, the Waverunner, and his personal fortune. As well as this, the crew turned to him for guidance, and the 18 year-old captain was suddenly in charge of 50 men and a ship. Seeking help, he sailed to Stros M'kai, a known hub of pirate activity. There he stumbled accross the Republic of the Free Men, where he was welcomed with open arms. He pawned off the ship and used the fortune to purchase a battered Galleon at the age of 19, with a full restoration in mind.

Adulthood: Much of Jayden's crew abandoned the plan for restoring the galleon that Jayden had named the Jade Vendetta, and sought work elsewhere as privateers aboard other ships. Jayden used the remaining fortune to fully restore the ship, replacing every broken cannon and reinforcing the hull, erecting new masts and having new sails fashioned. The problem though was a lack of crew. While some 20 of the originals remained, it was not nearly enough to man a ship that would need a crew of over 120. He signed on Lockjaw to serve as his Quartermaster, and two of his father's close friends abandoned their own ships to serve on his, bringing in an additional 60 crew members with Treyan becoming First Mate and Clayne pursuing his talents as a cook.

At 22 Jayden had a fully renovated Galleon and 160 men and women at his command. He had not yet set sail from Stros M'kai and had been getting by on his father's fortune, but was eager to take to the waves. He made small raids, attacking merchant convoys and occasionally lone Imperial ships. He did well up to the age of 26, where he was captured by Imperial forces, but managed to escape by persuading the soldiers that they had just raided the ship of a Redguard Prince, and ultimately evaded prosecution, hence earning himself the sarcastic nickname of "Prince" from his crew.

Tales of Jayden's exploits reached ears of the higher 'authorities' of the Republic, and he was extended an invitation to the council in charge of the Republic's defense. As a council member, he became one to always speak his mind, willing to point out things that others would shy away from saying regardless of if it offended someone or not. He felt the council was lacking in a truly honest and blunt figure, and so he decided to adopt that role as a new council member.

That's reasonable, Simus, though I don't think it's quite so small a difference as 1mph though, is it?

Both the Blue Wolf and the Relentless have a top speed of 28 mph. The Nightwish has a current top speed of 29 mph. Now edited to 40 mph due to...

    *thinks for a believable reason*

How about enchanted wood that weighs less, coupled with a keel designed for minimal drag?

The specs for The Blue Wolf I got from a real life ship. Her speed is due to her shallow hull and not having a ram on the front, making it lighter and able to skip over the waves faster. Maybe that helps Simus? :)

EDIT: Plus we are able to hide in shallow bays and stuff. Outrun and outlast ;)

Thanks for clearing that up, kitty. Could we operate in knots though? Just because the set values are nice, round numbers :p So, kitty/Wolf's speed is explained by a generally smaller ship, Simus for being a Mage/schooner, and Orien for... Well. It's not, really.

That works Kitty. The Blue Wolf looks like it's almost a schooner so that works. As in the pork portions make sense.

I said that the ship was strangely designed lol. It classified as a Tier 2 ship of the line, which is like a frigate, but it has the standard Brig double masts. It also has the Bowsprit sail. That's why it stats are so funky. And I messed up on my speed calculations, it was supposed to be a few knots less. I can fix that. If needed, I could bump it up to a true frigate, but I sort of like the strange design of the ship, gives it a personality.

And we encourage that but right now you have a brig sized frigate with the speed of a schooner. A ship that can outfight and outrun anything else. My ship can outrun anything. Blitzz's ship can outfight anything. Your ship can do both. That is overpowered because nothing is a challenge. I suggest making the thing a full frigate, use the ranges Epic gave and assign random numbers within those ranges. Max out some parts, take the minimum for others and make up reasons why what is what. As if the ship has been added to and modified with inconsistent parts. That's your uniqueness while within believable parameters.

Look, Orien, your ship is still a fair amount over the limits for a frigate. You've got 4 extra cannons (which would be fine, as I'll say in a minute) and a naval ram, which I completely unacceptable. The archetypes can tell you the only ships eligible for a ram are brigs. Then you've still got your extra sail, which somehow counters the extra weight and drag, even managing to add another 3 knots to the maximum speed.

I'll cut to the chase; I commend you for being more imaginative with your ship design. But I made the archetype list in order to maintain balance between our ships. You add extra weight, fine; you lose speed in the process. You're not sticking within those confines, which means your ship is overpowered and can't be accepted. Compared with your original Relentless, yes, it's an improvement. But now, instead of a brig-sized frigate with the speed of a schooner, you've got an overladen frigate with similar speed to a brig, and to top it all off, it's still got a ram. Follow the examples set by the other members, follow the archetype of whatever ship you're going with. And above all, I'm going to have to say get rid of that sail. No matter what you stick on the front of it, an overladen ship should be slower than the speed set, not 3 knots faster. Once you've got a reasonable ship, you're in, but at the moment, your ship is unreasonable.

Galleons and Men-of-War were known to have rams on the front of their ships, the same goes for a frigate. The Increased mass behind the ram makes up for what the ship lacks in speed when ramming another ship. I know the specifications of these ships as I have had to do extensive research into the matter for a History class in my College. If its based on your own, created Archetypes, then that is fine, but I just wanted to point out the all ship sizes, excluding schooners because I don't think I have ever heard of one, have the ability to carry and use a ram.

I'm English; I come from the country with one of the most successful naval histories in the entire world. How could I not know that? Like I said, you follow the archetypes like the rest have done. And, seriously:
The Increased mass behind the ram makes up for what the ship lacks in speed when ramming another ship.
Your ship isn't lacking in speed though. This RP is not meant to be historically accurate, it's supposed to be balanced so it's fun, and not utter bullpl*ps like it would be if your ship, for whatever reason, faced off against Simus' schooner. This is the word I set down weeks ago (and I know you couldn't have been expected to know that, but again, follow the archetypes), that the only ship with a ram available to it is a brig. And also that if you set foot over the limit on one specification, you have to go under on another to balance it out. And while your frigate is fairly short, the ram in itself would make up the missing weight, and the extra cannons just solidify that. If all of your specs are within the limits set in the archetypes, your maximum speed IS (non-negotiable) the speed set in the archetypes. You can either go slightly under the limits to get a bit of extra speed, or slightly over the limits to get some extra firepower at the cost of decreased speed. 15 knots is the maximum speed possible for a frigate, and a frigate cannot have a ram. That's my final word.

    EpicVakarian

    Calibration-Master General
Lose the sarcasm, Orien, it's not getting you anywhere fast.
While the speed is better, you've kept the bowsprit sail, the thing I explicitly told you to get rid of. Now, you're pretty much at the upper limit for every aspect of the ship's design. As you're within them, however, the speed is fine; or at least it would be, if not for the steel plate armour overlaid on the entire ship. You have the choice of removing the armour, or lowering the speed to 13 knots, and that's generous. That's the final offer.
