I don't even know how to search for this. Has anyone an idea what is going on?

I can begin my game and run around with fists out, but as soon as I take a weapon out, the game forces me into 3rd person view. I'll try to toggle, yet, all that accomplishes is a zoom in, and then back out.

I had thought this was a momentary thing, but now after booting it up today, it's doing the same thing. When I open the menu and use my cursor to adjust controls or whichever, it forces the highlighted selection to the bottom as well.

...You may guess I'm new to the PC version of Skyrim. I began with PS3, moved to 360, and now have a computer capable of running it. I am really hoping this can be fixed.

Thanks for any help.

Are you running any mods at all?

I was just googling "forced 3rd" with skyrim, and there seem to be quite a few people having similar problems, but I didn't spot anyone having the exact problem (weapon only). Of those having similar problems (forced 3rd person constantly, or for certain amounts of time) the suggestions ranged from riding a horse, using various workstations, to (if werewolf) going into beast mode again and then waiting til daylight. With what you've described, I'm not sure if any of these will help you, but it might be worth trying.

There was a discussion on nexus forums about forced 3rd person being a common dawnguard glitch.

I'm kind of at a loss as to what may be causing it, but if you do have mods, try starting the game without them (just don't save) and see if it makes a difference. If it does, go through the halving process, until you narrow down the mod in question. Hope it helps. Sorry if it doesn't.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not sure if I solved it, as it hasn't happened again for some time. I found out by accident the cause of the auto-scrolling down was a result of my touchpad after alt-tabbing. So, at least partly solved. To remedy the forced 3rd person, I started a new game. Hadn't gone in too far to really be concerned... still makes me a little nervous when I boot up.

The first time it happened, I didn't have any of the unofficial patches installed. Then it recurred after installing the unofficial patches... Eh... As you mention, there were a lot of persons with similar happenings. I was finding it frustrating each seemed to be related to Werewolving. Alas, the solution hasn't been pinpointed, it may not happen again... I don't know...

Hmm. It may make sense if it were a Dawnguard issue. I did have it installed both times.

Cheers

Glad you got it to behave, at least for now. Hopefully you won't have any more issues with it. It can be a pain sometimes.
