Lost Falmer
This is a guide I wrote on a Dwemer warrior that uses archery / one hand / block. In my iteration of it I chose an orc and went destro / restro instead of archery, with enchanting.

Thread: Dwemer Warrior | Skyrim Forums

My build / goal: Skyrim Perk Calculator - Plan the perks for your Skyrim character before spending them!

You could also go two handed instead of block / one hand. Another fresh idea is to roll khajiit and try unarmed, many guides for unarmed can be found with one google search. It requires heavy armor, smithing, and enchanting.

This build is about: Heavy Armor, 1Hand, Shield, Destruction, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, and then whatever else you decide you want later on. It takes a bit to get its full power and requires a few things but it pays off.

Get any of the damaging cloak spells from destruction, i use lightning because the lightning perk you eventually get disintegrates them at 15% hp. Then, get to 30 and do the Daedric quest for the Ebony Mail. After this it's up to you the build is about slow damage over time so i decided to run with 1hand axes for the damage over time bleed effect.

What eventually happens is you have 8 damage per second from the lightning cloak(+ everything has 15% less hp basically later on) then 5 poison damage per second from the ebony mail, plus you pick up the bleed perk for axes in 1handed. Right now im fairly unkillable and shield bash/1hand my enemies down while they're taking all of that extra damage dot damage.

It's really a blast to play after you get it going. Before you get it going you're basically a battlemage which is okay to me. Before i was into the whole sneaky archer or dual daggers assassin and couldn't imagine playing a battlemage type character.

I think I might make an actual guide for this build lol. I had some help with it from a thread i made previously.

I've been playing Dead is Dead with a Arcane Archer (Alteration, Archery, Light Armor, Sneak.) Just Bound Bow, and Detect Life, the latter is a fast leveler for Alteration, for Magic Resistance, and Spell Absorbtion. It's also early warning to avoid ambushes, and make sure you see them first. Unfortunately, it's also magicka intensive, so I haven't spent a single point on Health, or Stamina. With the bow's power, and Deadly Aim, it's pretty much all 1HK, but you aren't tough enough to take many hits, either, so it's a lot like playing on Master, only on adept. So far (level5) I haven't gotten Hit yet, so there's no actual Light Armor experience, I'm pretty much just wearing it. Breton would maximize Magic Resistance, with Spell Absorbtion in case you get screwed on Magicka. And Finally, both spells are free, the bow from Fort Amol, and Detect Life from Treva's Watch.

I went Altmer, to cast the bow at level 1, and for running speed. This character's created for troubleshooting some Mods I'm adding to Whiterun Hold, so she needs to get around as quickly as possible. Alteration for long distance sensing, sneak and conjuration for survival. It's all above ground, so I haven't added Detect Undead yet.

you could play a DiD run as an orc who, initially, only interacts with the various orc holds.

as well, by exploiting helgen you can start your character upon leaving the helgen cave at a decent level so that you can go right into rping as a competent warrior. choose no perks and don't do anything until you get to orc-level smithing, so that, you can effectively roleplay. you can exploit faendol to get more perks, as well.

the basic premise by the exploitation is that you are not starting off as an amateur nobody with no skills/perks. you only concentrate on getting a good number of perks that will flesh out your strict, DiD roleplay. the game doesn't actually "start" until you say so, so to speak, lol.

i've DiD'd this way a number of times because i don't want to rehash the game's content and take the time to get my roleplay character to where they need to be. this greatly opens up a characters backstory and history. the main thing is to try and do as little possible, game content-wise, to gain perks that give life to your character.

you can do this with any build you want, since, in a strict rp it doesn't matter if my archery or sneak is at 50 and 80 by the time i get to riverwood, if, i'm not going to ever use those skills.

rping a vampire this way is one of my future DiD's: get a bunch of perks accumulated and go straight to haemar's shame.

The Gentleman Owl
... for Alteration, for Magic Resistance, and Spell Absorbtion...

I like this build here, I've tried something similar to it, and I want to warn you about something. If you take the Atronach perk in Alteration, the summoning of your Bound Bow will get absorbed 30% of the time also. (EDITED: Bow isn't absorbed) I don't know how you feel about it, but any time I ever use Conjuration, I don't take any spell absorption effects (Breton racial, Atronach stone, Atronach perk) because it frustrates me. Especially on a DiD character, when you may need to summon your bow on the first try lest risk dying.

Now on to the topic at hand. Edge, you should browse through this site here, there are about a billion builds, at least you can look through and get ideas about something.

No, that just happens with Summons, like Familiars, Atronachs, and Dremora Lords. I've been using Bound Weapons with Spell Absorbtion (from all three possible sources) extensively for months, and I've never had that happen. It doesn't absorb Necromancy, either, only actual Summons.

Why are you playing DiD? Different motivations are better served by different builds. If it's to prove what a badass you are, then a level 81 Orcish warcrafter is probably your guy. If it's for the excitement of risking all that invested time on YASD, then a balanced, or slightly underpowered build might be a better choice. If you want to test, or prove your 1337 skillz as a Player, then I respectfully suggest one of the more risky, but powerful builds, like a Glass Cannon, pure Archer, or Unarmored Assassin. (That means you kick ass when it all goes according to plan, but if not, there's a good chance of getting killed quickly.)

Regardless, stick to tactics, and strategies you're comfortable with, DiD is not the way to experiment with new things.

Well do you guys have any themed character ideas? I just did a beawulf build with pentius oculatus armor, a sword, and restoration

BRINGER OF DEATH
You could be a Dark Elf, who is an imperial spy/assassin who goes and assassinates targets that are stormcloak sympathizers without being caught. You could also roleplay as being a refugee from Morrowind and decide to take refuge at the College of Winterhold as well as trying to help out those in the gray quarters of Windhelm.

Theme ideas challenging: Monk.

Unarmed, Alteration, sneak.

Hard to play at master level though.

the h2h/unarmored pacifist thief/conjurer is something i'm looking forward too. it'll be tough as heck and yet, i'm imagining, with the right rules, completely perfect.

i think d.i.d secondary rules will be the best, since, i want to play this character out.

I'm building a crossbow character right now. I only plan on my character using the crossbow and a cheap (probably just use Dwarven cause I like the look and it'll go with the Dwarven crossbow) dagger as a backup - haha the ol' dagger in your boot type thing, I'm not planning to use it much. I'm not even going to focus on defense and put all my focus into increasing archery and crossbow damage. Crossbows can become very powerful and I want the one shot/one kill mentality. I'm not focusing on defense at all (fur armor) because I want there to be a huge penalty if I screw up. So if I miss in the heat of battle or if I don't plan right for a group of enemies, I'll probably die since crossbows take so long to reload.

It's too early to tell at the moment how effective it's going to be since the enemies are still pretty weak and I haven't spawned the dragons yet, but having 3 guys coming at you knowing you have to kill them in 3 shots or move back to a better position sounds fun and kinda my idea behind it. Haha don't miss!

I'm not planning on sneaking much since bringing the pace to a crawl and sniping will make it easier than I want it to be. Unfortunately there are times where the game puts you in close quarters with a group of enemies and doesn't give you a chance to back out (all those doors that lock behind you in crypts and have draugr popping out of coffins comes to mind) and I haven't quite figured out what I'm going to do then since even if I don't miss, the crossbow reload time will probably kill me
