Hi. I'm playing Skyrim for the third time. Love the game and play for at least awhile every day. I'm from Colorado and sell welding supplies for a living. I'm currently separated from my third wife so I have lots of time to play video games -- uninterrupted (hehehehe).

Anyway, I mainly joined today because I keep running into the same problems (glitches) while playing Skyrim. I've never been able to finish a lot of the Dawnguard quests. I was recently sent to "discreetly kill a visiting adviser" in Rorikstead but he isn't there. The arrow points me to a front lawn in front of one of the homes but the dude just isn't there. The last time I played Skyrim, I ran into a similar problem. As a result, I'm not able to get anymore quests from Gunmar or the other "bosses" at Dawnguard Castle.

Another problem is attaining the "Word of Power" at Arcwind Point. The quest was given to me by the Greybeards. Every time I play the game I am able to attain the Word but the quest remains uncompleted so that I can't get more quests from the Greybeards. This quest remains open even after absorbing the Shout.

Anyway ... I'll take these sorts of questions to the appropriate forums and seek my answers there. Thanks for having me.

You on Console? Idk about PC or Ps3, but im on Xbox. Glitches shouldn't happen with the installation of add ons, they are well tested.

Its either a corrupt save - new character? Or a corrupt profile?

Skyrim itself though is very glitchy, you can practically make your own glitch fluffups! Every quest, might affect something else.

Thanks Harkin. The first time I played Skyrim's Dawnguard add-on I was using a game disc. This time, I downloaded the game to my Xbox 360 console. In both cases, I've run into the same problem (although at different times and different Dawnguard quests). From time to time, I will click on the pending "Hide and Seek" quest and head to Rorikstead with the hope that my target will be present but he never is. I'm always sent to that patch of grass right in front of a home (next to a fenced in field with a couple of cows in it). Unless and until I kill this vampire I will not get anymore Dawnguard quests.

Do you have a save you could reload to? One from either before you received the quest, or before you went to Rorikstead the first time? If so, I would try that.
Have you tried waiting at the location for an hour or two? Sometimes that fixes bugs like that, I think.
Have you looked around the rest of Rorikstead? Quest markers tend to act up a lot, especially in Dawnguard, so he may not be where the quest marker is pointing to. In any case it wouldn't hurt to double check.
And if you've tried those, have you tried doing a 30 day reset? He may respawn, never know. Other than that I don't know. :/ Sorry.
Oh and, welcome to the forums! Shoulda said that first lol.

Thanks for the ideas. Unfortunately, I save a lot due to the numerous game lock-ups. I also stood at the assigned location and waited an hour ... then two hours ... then 12 hours. That didn't work. Then I thought that maybe the home had a basement and the villain would be down there under the spot pointed out by the arrow (underground) but there wasn't a basement. I've run all around the small village and have entered every building but found nothing. As a last-ditch effort, I re-downloaded Dawnguard with the hope that it would clear out any glitches but that didn't work either. So ... no more Dawnguard quests for me. This is the second time I've played Skyrim (with the Dawnguard add-on) without being able to finish it or at least finish all the larger quests.

Anyway ... I will try the 30 day reset idea and cross my fingers. Thanks for the welcome. Good to be here.

No problem. And yeah, Dawnguard created a lot of glitches for me as well. Fortunately a 30 day reset did fix most of them. Good luck. Let us know if it works. :)

Not good news hearing Dawnguard has bugs, I'm going to buy legendary soon.

Well ... I'm not too sure if I fully understand the "thirty day re-set" thing but this is what I did (based on my understanding of it): I pushed the wait button and waited a full 24 hours (game time) and I did this 30 times in a row. It was time consuming but I really wanted Dawnguard to re-set. That didn't work. I'm wondering if a "thirty day re-set" is based on thirty literal days (real time)?

I'm looking forward to the upcoming release of Elder Scrolls Online. I still have to get the Xbox One but that's in the works. I'm also hoping that Bethesda is planning to release another Fallout game of some sort.

Yes, what you did is a 30 day reset. It's best to do it in an already cleared dungeon - or atleast that's what I've seen others do, so I assume it is. If it didn't work then there's not much you can do. :/ Sorry, that really sucks.
