Where can one go to obtain master level destruction spellbooks when the College of Winterhold is not an option? The college is not an option because Morokei is glitched, ergo the Staff of Magnus cannot be obtained and thus, the quest is uncompletable. The mages are all locked in permanent combat with magic anomalies, refusing to help me until the Staff is retrieved. It's become quite tedious using adept level spells to level up my destruction, which is currently at 50. My goal is to get it to 60 for the augmentation 2/2 perks. Suggestions?

offensive spell right hand, cloak spell left hand.
It helps if you can find a spot/situation where you can draw out the fight somewhat by staying at a distance or on inaccessible rooftop/rocks or the like.
Adept attack spells gain xp slowly b/c of low base cost/dmg but the cloak spells are expensive and you can gain xp rapidly by spamming them as able during a combat situation .
so if you have the magicka for it u want to recast the cloak even if the previous cloak hasn`t expired . it doesnt need to cause damage to give better xp than the attack spells and you don`t gain xp from damage caused by cloaks

As for the issue of expert level destruction
spells and your bug , Talvas Fathryon is the merchant outside of the college who sells them.
If you dont have Dragonborn DLC , expert tome as random loot is possible after overall level 35.
A functioning Faralda is the only source for Master level spells

That would be my firsr guess. Illusion them to death. As long as you're not too high a level, you should be able to calm them all for a time. I don't see why that wouldn't work, albeit, temporarily.

edit: Well... Now that I'm thinking, they may not allow you to buy from them, and only comment about the college being under attack or whatever.... Ahh, how is Morokei bugged out?

Morokei is glitched by being unhittable. And I've tried every way of hitting him too. From what I've read, there's no fix for this on the PS3. My illusion isn't developed enough to calm the mages, I don't think, but it's worth a try. :beermug:

It's fine, I really just want the augmented perks for my melee weapons. Seems that I'll just have to suffer grinding expert.

You've tried every way including throwing stuff at him? ...I mean, it would be painstakingly tedious, but you never know, right? Could work... Telekenesis doesn't have a lot of use in game play, so this could be its shining moment!

Sorry you're sort of stuck. You know, I've restarted a character for less. Maybe after a second thought you might like to just do that. Having access to the College, especially if you're intending on being a mage, is quite invaluable. There is so much you can achieve there, master spells, Atronach Forge, etc.... Anyways, some resources besides the College may include: Falion of Morthal for Black Soul Gems, Blackreach for gems in general, random loot (pray to your RNG gods), and ... ... ... determination... (?) ...

Adept level spells aren't fantastic for leveling, but turning down the difficulty will help you level up faster. Lower difficulty = lower resistances = more experience. In my various playthroughs, I've suffered some rather lame dilemmas, i.e. Having to level Destruction to 60 with only Flames; and though, I never took advantage of it, with typical experimenting, I found you can level up Destruction at a much faster pace on Novice than on Legendary. It's an idea. Sadly it just makes all the enemies push-overs.

Cheers

Interesting that you mentioned starting over. The character in question is level 76, and his primary magic is conjuration, which he's mastered. No need to start over, however, the idea of a more or less pure mage build had really started to appeal to me. So, on a different profile, I made one, (my first Dunmer). After killing the dragon at the western watch tower, she made her way directly to the college and now, at level 12, is on her way to Labyrinthian to obtain the staff and become archmage! Could be a Dragon Priest in the making. :beermug:

Perhaps 'start over' isn't a good term. It's more like, give it another go, you know? There are so many possibilities. As daunting as it is, I've always found beginning anew takes me to impasses I'd never visited before, or goals I'd never completed.

But, yea, I guess 76 might take a while to reach again. I know the last character I worked to the cap took roughly three months-- provided: I wasn't grinding, but I was making an effort... If only I had the same determined attitude to reality...

I've found pure builds to be the most fun these days. They require much more patience, but the payoff far surpasses most others. Is yiour Dunmer headed down Destruction or some other avenue of dedication?

Dredesa the Dunmer is going to be a walking Zahkriisos, complete with Zahkriisos mask worn concomitantly with the Jagged Crown; a Dragonborn Dragonpriest of thunder, flame, and frost. Destruction is the main course, already at 40, at lvl 13. I keep a massive steel warhammer as a desperate means of back up for when magic runs out, which may run afoul of many's idea of a mage build, but then so does the heavy armor that I had to put on to survive Labyrinthian. I may later poll for suggestions on armor/robes possibilities. It's already proven to be a most interesting character, and I plan to concoct a thread with some pics once I progress a bit further.

I know my share of lore, but never have I heard of Zahkrilsos. Sounds important...

Steel warhammers are always a good choice, though, I, personally, prefer Iron. Currently my Dunmer is strolling around with Cuirass of the Savior's Hide, Forgemaster's Fingers, Iron boots, and a mage hood. I'm not sure how you'd prefer to equip yours. I'm partial to Ebony and Iron with Dunmer races. The deep tone skin compliments grey and purple well. Sadly robes aren't very diverse in vanilla. A simple hooded black robe could do well. Also, clothes offer more anonymity, however, female variants often aren't to my taste.

Zahkriisos is my favorite Dragonpriest, as he's always given me the most trouble if I wasn't ready. Surely you've fought him, DB DLC. The mask increases shock resistance and shock damage. It can be worn at the same time as the Jagged Crown, with both mask and crown visible, which is what I shall do.

And yes, I've noticed that my Archmage robes aren't nearly as impressive on a female build. Pity..

Edit: Just earlier I obtained Volundrung, so I'll no longer be using the steel hammer. :beermug:

I see. No, I haven't. I have only vanilla Skyrim installed. One day-- in the far off future, I may try out the DLCs.

...You've got to be careful uttering that word around me. I get all excited and anxious...

...And now with my new character, Faralda will not give me the master quest. My destruction is 99, but no additional dialog options have appeared. I've read up on it some, didn't see this listed as a bug... Why do the Gods prohibit me from experiencing master level destruction!?

I thought you had to level it to 100... I haven't seen the dialogue on my Dunmer with 94 Destruction. Perhaps there's some thing we're both missing... Reminds me of my first time obtaining the master Restoration spells (a couple weeks ago). Spent like an hour reloading and saving every few minutes trying to get Dunlain to talk to me a second time... WHY won't you talk to me, Dunlain? ...Oh, that's why...

I hope you're right about 100, since I'm but one level away; the wiki states a prerequisite of 90 and nothing else, but that's obviously flawed... I'll find out tonight.
