I'm curious as to whom out of the three hostages in the abandoned shack do people choose to kill, and what the preferred method of execution is ? I threw an ice spike through the Whimpering Nord most recently. Another time I finished them all off with a battle axe. I was considering torching them all with the fire spell, but that seems unduly sadistic.

I like to just kill them all... The way I kill them probably depends on the character, who (and how many...) I kill out of the three probably should to, but, I kill them all anyway.

I rp my Dark Brotherhood characters to be pretty evil so I usually kill all three. Most times with my crossbow, or sometimes I duel wield swords, hoping for a nice beheading killcam.

When I turn the tables and kill Astrid instead I hit her with a crossbow bolt then finish her off with my sword.

More sadistic than butchering them with a giant axe? o_O Or an ice spike to the head? Ouch..

:p

Usually I intimidate the first two, then with the whimpering Nord I sweet talk him. He lets his guard down... Perfect. I slowly walk behind the Khajiit and stab him with a very sharp blade, one that would make a certain jester proud ;). The next came the bitchy mother. And then with the scared little Nord...

It was quite the mess.

If I turn the table on Astrid I just whack away at her with a very pointy sword too. I try to make it as painful as possible, but it's a boring affair. The fun part comes with the others. Such fun. ;)

I've only played the DB questline twice, but both times I greased the Khajiit, right about the time he offered to have his people carve his name into me. Denied. Most often, I just kill Astrid and go on to destroy the DB. On PC, you can get into the shack without having to kill Grelod, though the courier shows up with "new management" letters anyway, so I assume she just had a heart attack or something.

Daaamn you lot are evil, murdering the DB?! Almost inspiring me to try it myself.

Nazir mighy actually make a cool thrall.

Mr Forz

I'm helping. Mostly.
I never bother with the DB these days so I toss a poisoned bolt on Astrid's face, untie the unfortunate mercenary and that annoying woman and crush the khajiit's head with my bare hands.

The Phoenician

Shiney, let's be bad guys.
All three with flames.

When in doubt, follow the fox.
I've killed all three a few times. Then I thought it might be more evil to kill one. Or maybe two. So I did that. Chose at random. If I think about it, I bond with them too much then I can't kill them. I do DB with kind of a grudge in my mind. That bitch in the middle pretty much gets killed every time though.

I've only played the DB quest line once thus far, and when I did I killed the one my character thought was most deserving. She doesn't like to kill anyone unless she really thinks they deserve it so. She killed the Khajiit who was the first to threaten her with bodily harm. :/ The angry mother, in my characters mind, was just angry about the situation and trying to defend her kids; and the Nord she thought still should have a chance to redeem himself. He seemed genuinely to want to.

Most recently?

Kill Astrid and let two of the hostages go. That arrogant sow was foolish enough to leave a sword in Shian's hand then presume to order her about.

There is no glory in slaying people blindfolded and on their knees, but the bards will sing tales of the redguard warrior-maiden who cut down the dastardly mistress of The Dark Brotherhood.

I let the nord and the angry woman go. I left the Khajit to figure his own way out. I don't like his attitude and Shian doesn't like Khajit.

When I actually play a character that would join The Brotherhood? I kill them all. You are given insufficient data to determine which is the real target. The only way to be sure of success is to kill all three.

I kill everybody but the Khajiit. I like Khajiit, he may live.

My character is Bosmer. Not racist at all. She judges people on their merits and actions and what they say and do, not solely their race.
Apologies but I tend to think that was kind of directed at my last post. I could be wrong though, but either way.

My characters have, so far, only killed the Kajiit or Astrid.
The Nord is so wimpy and panicked. I feel sorry for him. Maybe I shouldnt!
The mother is pretty brave, if a little annoying, talking down to her kidnapper with a no-nonsense attitude. But I also think of her kids. I don't want to take away their mom.
So the Kajiit usually gets a dagger through the heart for threatening me.

However, if I go back to the shack later, (many months usually) whoever isn't killed is left there, still bound and blindfolded. I wonder if death is the more merciful option in this instance?

I always wondered what happened to the ones you leave alive, if any. That's actually good to know. Thanks for sharing that. :)
