You get one-shotted regularly? It's only the toughest of opponents that can do that to me. I usually don't even give them the chance to.
Yup always the boss types. And I don't use the upper tier armors cause the extra weight means harder to sneak. (Most magic I use is enchanted items), the progress is usually: 1. switch to DB gloves before the strike. 2. Poison both blades with my patented "Generic Damage Health Poison: 30 to 45 hp" 3. double power attack and hope that he has almost no health left.

Sometimes it just doesn't work.

Interesting. I have never used the DB gloves or poison. I usually just enchant for health/stamina/magicka absorb and attack from the rear for the max bonus. I've yet to be able to take down almost any boss (with the exception of exceptionally high level ones like Miraak) with this method.
I did play one character that absorbed 140 pts per strike as well as paralyzed + the damage of the dual dragon bone daggers so, nothing really stood in my way.
That being said though, I far prefer to take them out from a distance either by arrow, bolt or spell. Don't want to get my hands dirty and it's so difficult to get blood out of silk robes. :)

Nephor The Shadow Stalker

Strike swiftly and silently.
I always go with archery. Just me but I've abused stealth archery and got bored really fast. So I re-tuned my character to be more like an ambush guerrilla fighter and much more exciting to play. Putting only 2 points into stealth makes sneaking a bit of a gamble but after some patience with alchemy invisibility potions help me disappear. Just a suggestion if you like.:)

Mundus 9-5, Oblivion weekends
The thighs of my old Redguard must have been strong enough to kickstart a turbine with all the crouching he did... Like, crouching through cities, the plains of Whiterun... You'd almost expect he didn't know how to stand up.

These days I sometimes sneak, and then when that fails: There isn't much worry. After all, I have a posse of the dead at my back.

A Brute among Beasts
Stealth was never really my thing. I struggle at this game enough without trying to remain unseen.
Mind you, crouching has proved a useful tool in the past. Once in Riften I was having a brawl (for money...) & I accidentally hit Louis Letrush in the face. He chased me upstairs & I made it back down without him immediatly noticing. I hid behind a wall, & he actually made a really good attempt to find me (rather realistically, making threats, dashing around). I got away though (didnt bother to fight him, he was essential).

My problem with stealth is that I panic if people find me. Normally I would watch myself die, learn my lesson & respawn, ready to re-attempt the dungeon. That dosent really work with a game that lets me pull out an enchanted Dwarven Warhammer in the blink of an eye.

I think stealh is much more fun/interesting, i did an entire playthrough without getting detected, it's a tad harder because it's time consuming- you have to think about everything, find the right time to pass the enemy, but seriously you guys who love stealth must try it.

DrunkenMage

Intoxicated Arch-Mage
I much prefer being a Mage (obviously). Ever since Oblivion, every other build doesn't always last very long. I don't require sneaking, just waltz in calming everyone. I miss Oblivion Illusion, however. Especially when you needed information.

"Tell me about this person."
"I'm not telling you anything, get lost."
*Jedi illusion powers*
"HELLO FRIEND! :D Here is everything I know. Have a lovely day, I will miss you."

If I do play a sneaking character, I enjoy being a thief more than an assassin. I find it gets boring quickly, if you're just slitting everyone's throat. Being a Master Thief, trying to avoid killing people if I can. Though if I do find traps, I like setting up "accidents".

Stealth is easily the most fun play-style though it does start feeling a bit overpowered once you get the hang of it and your sneak skill is high enough. There's just something really satisfying about picking off an enemy from behind a tree or sneaking your way around a crowded room of bandits, killing them off silently one by one whilst staying in the shadows. To think I used to be a boring old hack-and-slash warrior before I saw the light and became a thief.

Why are you a "thief" if you sneak? Folks here know how I feel about thieves. I do a lot of sneaking on mages, assassins and even just plain archers. I prefer an honest "loot the dead body of my victim" situation to a "rip off the civilian" scenario any day.

I love stealth characters. I usually play as an Alchemy Archer. This can make dungeons and close combat a bit more difficult but as long as you can get your blade up a bit as well the poisons should be enough to kill most things. Oblivion made it too easy to be stealthy with its Chameleon enchantment, thankfully Skyrim is a little more balanced.

I love stealth, and that playstyle comes naturally to me. However, stealth is very easily OP in TES games, especially Skyrim. So now I make sure I never place any skill points in stealth, just to try and keep it nerfed a bit. I love to sneak but it's not as fun if you can't get caught too. d;-)

On the other hand, I've played a character where I didn't allow sneak at all. And THAT was actually interesting too. The way to get the most out of these games is to make your own playstyle adjustments to make the game new to you.

Snake Tortoise

Here's For Your Trouble
It's a tough one. Sneaky play is exhilarating at times but becomes a bit frustrating. There's no practical way to deal with dragons as a dagger assassin and constantly sneaking is a slow way to get through dungeons

I think there's also an added satisfaction in facing enemies head on, absorbing the worst they can do and killing them anyway. I slightly favour playing as a warrior and not having to worry who can see me (What you gonna do about it, draugr?)

Maybe the best of both worlds is a sneaky archer who can clear dungeons without being seen but also has high strength armour, all of the archery perks and can do just as well without sneak

I started of with a Nord 2H Heavy Armor tank character, but switched to the Sword and Shield for added defense. When I tried my hand at being a sneaky character I found that it was way more enjoyable for me. It added quite a bit more tension, the stress of being detected made the game just feel different, if that makes sense. Though I do agree, when you max out your Sneak and Archery it can get very repetitive. I try to mix it up now :D

Nope. I gave stealth a try, I really did, but I just find it somehow broken in this game, at least in my head. Maybe I'm just too dumb for it, but I like going face-to-face with my enemies and bashing their skulls in.

Stealth is awesome, nothing better than 30x one hit damage on some giant or Draugr. I recommend it because you can also just do some quests faster as you just sneak and roll right through the enemies.

SPOILER ALERT

hello every one :) (what you read below is Sah personal opinions:rolleyes: observations made from playing the game;))

this one would like to talk about character building before talking about sneaking...observing my own game...this one always uses the warrior as core build...but has adopted a strategy many ppl would not agree on...this one designs the game to be played with difficulty Legendary & no quests started before level 100, the accumulation of perk points at this level, and distributed properly turns you into a all-rounder.
NOTE even if you take the normal approach...again once you start reaching level 80 and above the same thing will start to happen, extra perks. Its about this point that it makes you think? is there a pure class of character at level 100 plus, the only way to achieve this is not to use your perks for anything else but your class (example; warrior)

There are many quests that can be done all sneaking, Bleak falls barrow comes to mind (once inside)...but its so true like stated in above post can become boring, it’s an attitude change that can make it more interesting...use as first attack, it’s a free kill...can tip situations in your favor. Sneaking is one of the hardest perks to get up...will take 12 kills to get from 90 to 91 (all power hits) - so to get from 90 - 100, you have 10 perk levels x 12 kills = 120 kills.

For any one into glitches this one knows how to get sneaking up unlimited times, even before you get to Riverwood, you can start the game level 50 and above, and sneaking x5 Legendary!

Personal opinion sneaking is a compliment to other main classes (warrior, berserk-er, assassin, thief ext.), very hard to pore everything into sneaking as a class of its own and expect to complete quests like Alduins wall & Alduin's Eyre where every enemy is converging on your position...(Easy is OK...but Master, Legendary?)

Regardless of class recommended PERKS (min 4 - 8max)

Sneaking x 1-5 perks
Muffled Movement x 1 perk
Back stab x 1 perk (x6 sneak attack damage)
Deadly aim x 1 perk (x3 sneak damage with a bow)
Optional: Pressure plates x 1 perk (takes all the fun out of traps)

You can get sneaking from enchanting
Glove, Ring, amulet & Boots can have sneaking & muffle

thank you every one for your time

Stealth certainly can be a lot of fun. But I wouldn't be keen to base an entire character around stealth to the detriment of warrior skills. I can't think of many quests where you don't end up having to engage in direct hand to hand combat at some point, in which case high Sneak and Archery skills won't be much use to you?

I much prefer stealth builds. It brings an element of strategy to the game that doesn't exist if you're just running in and bashing everything in the head. It's the strategy that I love, and the tension that comes with it. (This may come from my years of playing Hitman and trying to get the Silent Assassin rating with "zero" kills...)

I used to dual wield with this character. I only plan on using my two handed weapon for when situations go south

But... if you only use two-handed weapons as a last resort, how are you going to build your two-handed skill enough to be able to do any real damage with them? If you're doing this with a mage who doesn't otherwise use weapons, yes, a two-handed weapon is your best bet. But if you're playing a stealth character who uses one-handed weapons at all, then switching to a two-handed weapon will actually make you weaker, especially later on in the game. At level 20 with an even moderately-built one-handed skill, you should be doing much more damage with a one-handed weapon than a two-handed weapon.

My back-up plan for stealth builds is usually dual daggers and the Elemental Fury shout. You'd be surprised at how quickly you can kill just about anything with that combo (provided, of course, that your one-handed skill isn't non-existent and you aren't using iron daggers at level 30). I've been able to kill a dragon and multiple other enemies in the span of a single Elemental Fury shout.
