My horse, which I bought in Whiterun, died while I was riding from Arcwind point to Whiterun. So I walked the rest of the journey to Whiterun, and there was a horse in the stable with my name on it. I didn't have to buy another one, it was the same type of horse already owned by me. Has this happened to any other PS3 users?

Something similar happened to me at one point back when I used to play on PS3.

Haven't had it happen on PC, but then again I'm using Shadowmere so I haven't had a horse die in a long time.

Regularly. The same thing happens with Frost. I think it's a PS3 thing.

Suddenly I'm beginning to think that having horses fall out of the sky in my game is actually normal...

well after playing on, it turns out the horse doesn't behave like a horse owned by me. She fast travels with me to places, but once I dismount she starts walking back to the Whiterun stables.

Get Frost from Riften. He'll follow you to the ends of the earth and is apparently immortal unless you kill him on the PS3. Every time I use him I love him. Plus he's pretty. :)

I don't think this is a PS3 exclusive thing. I've noticed resurrected horses appearing in Whiterun and Windhelm on my PC in past months. I never rode them though as I'm big on roleplay and immersion which don't accept horses coming back from the dead.

I've had that happen to me before. I'm also on PS3. I've had a few horses die, and then I'll fast travel and suddenly there they are again, or I'll find them at the stables I bought them from. I once had a weird glitch where I found three of the same speckled grey horses at the Riften stables - the speckled grey was one of my very first that died ages ago. Happened whilst I was trying to get Shadowmere to re-appear from a glitch. They all showed up as just "Horse" in white font with no option to steal. Needless to say as it was a glitch I didn't try to ride them so I wouldn't know how they behave. Seems like a lot of glitches work themselves out in this way in my game though - I had to fix an invisible bounty glitch with the Dawnguard the other day and I had three trolls appear all at once and attack after doing so. :/ On apprentice. Not normal. Even though this was on another character. Something about the way the game works I guess? Who knows.
According to my stats I only own three horses too which is supposed to be Shadowmere, Arvak and a white horse from Markarth. So go figure. :/ But yeah, you are not alone.

I think the horses in Riften stable become free to use after you help clear Shadr's debt. They'll still walk back to the stable after you dismount, but you won't get a bounty. Same seems to happen at Katla's farm if you sell some crops to the lady who owns the place.

So any way, I bought a new horse from the Windhelm stables, and my old horse who came back from the dead is now gone. Maybe it was her spirit making sure I take a new steed to carry me on my adventures, so she could finally rest in peace.

Hmm. I don't think my main has done that quest yet though. I should probably double check though, that'd certainly explain what happened. She has however done the brawl with the dude who sells horses there though - and I believe you get a free horse from that.. So maybe that's what caused it. Interesting thought.
