Mundus 9-5, Oblivion weekends
Wind speed... AIs that can jump...

...Strolling through Blackreach on my Breton with Yamarz and Benar by my side. Sadly, the AI does not understand the area to the far Southeast(?) under the Tower of Mzark. Being level 15 at the time, I could not face Falmer alone; and, so, I had to resort to re-killing Yamarz and transporting him across the head-current water to a small plot of land. It was with much displeasure and trying did I accept that the time it took to cast Dead Thrall was too long. Before my Thrall was "activated" the Falmer were at my face, poisoning me with their glorified chitin axes... Benar has been as equally unhelpful. He does not understand the concept of water and swimming up-current either.

After nearly half an hour of trying to successfully initiate Dead Thrall on Yamarz (in between Falmer arrows, axes, and Yamarz' lifeless body falling off the piece of land and floating down current), I finally succeeded in enthralling Yamarz and beginning the quest for victory. (Collecting Crimson Nirnroot.) Of course, prior to this a save was made, and lo and behold, the battle ensuing moved from land and into the down-current water. This assured Benar, Yamarz, and three Falmer to having an exciting playtime bath session at the exotic Lake Blackreach.

You must understand. This was terribly amusing. After calming myself, I was able to reload and try once more with far more... accomplished results.

Thank you for your time. This was a random thought to pop into my head from recent activities in Skyrim's playground.

EDIT: Sorry, it would have been at level 15, and I had Benar not Stenvar.... Brain took some time off there.

I always assumed Delphine was lying about an employer so that anyone to interested in finding out those who know about the dragons would start trying to identify this mysterious employer and not look too closely at the minion, who incidentally has been hiding from the Thalmor for many years and doesn't want people looking too closely at her.

Oh! No! No! We ALL enjoy that! No more complaining about having to "carry our burdens" and no more potato/bread munching while she watches you sleep. Even the kids and Jarl don't seem to notice her absence. :)

There should be more civil-war quests. Occasionally you might be contacted by courier to fight once again for your side. It's just that I enjoyed the quests where you fought a horde of foes along side your own horde, like when sacking Whiterun or Windhelm.
The Civil War questline was originally planned as being much more robust. Whether time, budget or more likely glitches and bugs, the CW got cut way down to what exists in the vanilla game. Originally there were supposed to be many more battles and the need to defend gains you made along the way.

There's a mod that unlocks a good bit of extra coding left in the game but just disabled which works to add a decent bit of what was cut back into the game, but it is definitely quite rough around the edges, glitches somewhat regularly, and some of the stuff hadn't advanced too far though development before it got disabled.

I do like the giant siege scenes which is why prior to any one of those moments, I always made an extra save just prior so I could replay it at will. You often get some of the best screenshots in the wild panicky madness of hell breaking loose everywhere.

I've been recently considering creating a new character JUST to replay the civil war. Actually, I'll do two characters, one for each side. These characters will join the battle immediately, doing no other quests first. Creating save points at certain junctures is a good idea, which I will utilize for this scenario. (I also intend to make a save at Sovngarde when my Nord, Malkjar gets there. You know, so that he can hang out in the Great Hall and drink mead and ale with Nords of legend. Too bad it won't let you unsheath your weapon in there, [I know that fighting with weapons is prohibited within the Great Hall], I think it would be nice to throw some punches and have a massive brawl, without which no real feast is complete.) :beermug:

Poor Lydia! Lol, normally I'd agree with you, but I play on my pc and have a couple of mods including the unofficial patches. And man, they fix sooo much (like seriously I cannot recommend them enough). No more whining and creeping around your bed and even some new dialogue like "I'm at your command" when you hand her your things. On my current playthrough I actually kept her for a good while cause it turns out she's actually a pretty good follower when she's not b*tching about everything

I agree. She is a great follower. It's just her dialogue that honks me off. I find that, if I put my fingers in my ears and say "la, la, la, la, la..." whenever she starts talking, she is a much more enjoyable companion. Of course, for some reason she hates dogs, but, hey, ya can't have everything.

Really? I was running around with her and Meeko for days and she didn't seem to mind. Her "Skyrim belongs to the Nords" line is kinda off-putting though, especially when my character's an elf. Like, I get it, you don't like being my housecarl. Jeez

Maybe she just hates the dogs when they're in the same house? You're right, she doesn't seem to mind them when we're out adventuring. It's probably the barking. That gets on my nerves too!

I had Lydia with me in Miraak's temple on one playthrough, and of course Frea was there too, (talk about dialog that gets on one's nerves..). At one point I went to give Lydia an item when she referred to Frea by saying, "She's not bad, for a Skaal." Not bad in what way, Lydia? I agree that she's not bad looking... if we could shut her up. I wonder what Sylgja would think if I showed up back at Hjerim with the two women, and said, "Lydia, tell Sylgja what you told me about our new companion here. Shall we test that assumption, upstairs? Only if I equip the Staff of Magnus, you say?" Sylgja's dirty. :beermug:

Talk of armor mods made me think of this. The Ancient Nord Armor set needs greaves. This was something I liked about Oblivion, that extra piece of armor for the legs. When I look at the Ancient Nord set, I think it looks good, from the waist up. But having the entire upper leg exposed? Really? It's great for showing off the quads, but really, lets get some greaves for these guys!

I alway chuckle on each playthrough of Dragonborn when I do the Lost Legacy radiant quest exploring Vahlok's Tomb with the scholarly Tharstan.

My first thought that entered my mind the first time he translated the line, "A sacrifice will bring you closer to that which you seek," I couldn't help but assess the situation of sacrifice needed + one other living person with me + firepit trap door to equal one sensible conclusion.

Oh gosh, I did that same thing when I saw it done on a Lets Play. Can't wait to play it myself - I wanted my character to be at level 55 for the first playthrough, as apparently that is the ideal level at which to get Miraak's Robes and his other items, which are perfectly suited for my main character. :) That took a while though, even though before training her up a bit she was only two levels off. One of the bad things of being a werewolf I suppose - no lover's comfort or rest ing bonuses to speed up leveling with. :/

I once saw a hilarious comic (somewhere) in which a female Stormcloak officer asked both Galmar and Ulfric where the greaves for her new armour were, only to have them look her up and down in her mini skirt and boots and say: "Looks fine to me."

The guys who do Skyrim for Pimps also assumed that Thurston was the sacrifice at that quest. They spent a while hitting him while he was down until he was over the pit, only to have him cling on like a monkey when they pulled the switch. Then to round off the hilarity, this was the point they realised that weapon they'd sacrificed before trying Thurston had actually opened up a new area they only just noticed then.

Just a random thought, the developers love to pay great attention to detail to the landscape etc, well I wondered if there were any star constellations in the night sky, , , just a thought,

Kohlar, about the Civil War quest, I was really annoyed by how short and unfulfilling it was - Run a couple of errands for said Lieutenant (Sneak up on some silly Caravan and steal the Gold being one of those missions leading up to the FINAL BATTLE)

And then when you get to the final battle, I was expecting to battle waves of Stormcloaks, archers and the like (The Fight for Whiterun was quite fun but a tad too short) instead its like a Maze, I have to weave myself around this temporarily constructed obstacle course within near Stormcloak HQ at the Palace, screaming to scare the children or bashing the odd guard who gets in my way - YES I'm coming through!

Then once I've slayed Ulfric and I become chums with Tullius it all ends with some un-inspiring words from Tullius which my Orc just picked his nose at.

War ended and the Maze of Windhelm no longer exists and is back to its ordinary state.

Whats really funny now, is I just take my Thralled Ulfric to Solitude HQ and none of the Imperial guards bat an eyelid at the fact that their most sworn enemy, who they worked so hard to take down is standing right infront of them.

They can even have a cosy cuppa together! How sweet!
