How do you backstab a Dragon?
Think someone who warns you about "other activities" when you go to school. :) I also find them at a bunch of vendors on a regular basis and always kill Balbus (I think that's his name - you know the Gourmet dude wannabe) at the beginning of the game to have one on hand right off.
Who is Balbus? Never heard of a gourmet wannabe
He's a guy you'll meet that asks you if you know who "The Gourmet" is and says he's collecting herbs to impress him with his cooking abilities and would really, really like to meet him. I'm surprised you never ran in to him yet. When he spawns, the site he's at never, ever respawns again. he just stands there wandering back and forth forever more (unless you kill him, in which case his body stays there - or pile of ashes if you're me!). The only exception I've ever seen to that is when once, and only once in my many, many characters he got caught up in a vampire attack. Then he disappeared and respawned way up by Solitude! Freaky!

Where are the usual beginning spawns for him?

I usually get him in one of three places:
On the road by Lake Illianta past the place where Lakeview will be, past the stone walls and just past the big rock hill on the lakeside where there's a huge boulder in the middle of a clearing (near where the hunter hangs out)
At the top of the pass heading towards North Shriekwind and Falkreath (the shortcut up the hill from Pine Watch and on the way to the bandits over the road by Falkreath)
At the top of the pass above Riverwood when you head up rather than towards the mine.
He is also known to appear in the pine grove across the river on the way to to the witch's house or as you head up the hill to the bandit watch tower on the way to Bleak Falls if you don't use the road out of Riverwood.

He can spawn almost anywhere though, but he's always there for me since I spend the first few hours just around Riverwood looting everything and making a few K in gold. :)

The pilgrim Faldrus carried one last time I killed him; though, I expect that was due to chance more than static programming.

Now why ya wanna go and kill Falrus? That's like killing that dern guy always heading to join the Empire or the Rebellion. It's just mean. PHBBBBBT!

I'd argue it's far more mean-spirited to kill Faldrus (sorry for the late typo fix)... Farmers are dime a dozen. You only get to slay a humbly devoted follower of Azura once. I say this because that other lady is too mystic to be humble...

Yes, I enjoy returning to the shrine to pillage hearts and some good ingots. Lately, there's always one of the initial two dremora that runs away and cowers. It's a bit comical. Too bad one can't loot their armor.

We keep the name of the vendor who sells them a secret, "evil cackle "
Who does sell these? Never knew...

Now that is a cool answer, respect,

But do you have the coin?
