I was looking at Rolff Stone-Fist's UESP article to see if it mentioned him losing his essential status at some point*, when I saw the part where it says "-- His brother is Galmar Stone-Fist --". Despite the pretty darn obvious connection (shared surname) I had never, ever even suspected the two were related. Needless to say, I felt more than a little stupid.

I even loaded up the Creation Kit (after having to redownload most of its files and figuring out how to find a specific NPC ) to make sure the article was correct.

Dammit. Knowing this I can't possibly kill Rolff with my next character.

*I've taken to setting him to non-essential using the console command setessential, so it doesn't really matter, but I checked anyway

Yes. Sometimes there's stuff I wont't understand. Like I've been playing Skyrim for years, and just a few weeks ago I figured out the puzzle was on the back of Golden Claw!

My face went  when I read this. I had no clue and probably wouldn't have ever made the connection!

Agree. Until they told me on this forum, I had no idea they all do!

I've heard stories of people trying to climb the throat of the world to get to High Hrothgar -- cause they didn't know about the steps.

I've tried jumping down the side of the mountain to shorten the return trip -- with disastrous results

I've climbed up the Throat of the World to get to High Hrothgar - not because I didn't know about the stairs, but because I couldn't be bothered running all the way to Ivarstead. Took me about 1,5 real hours to get there, even though I started from the path leading through the mountains (Whiterun SC camp - the Rift). I actually saw Paarthurnax sitting on that Word Wall of his (this was after I'd completed "Throat of the World"). :D

Yeah I can vouch for Dark souls both 1&2 for being tough, but theres huge sense of satisfaction overcoming a boss you died 20 times to, The first time I beat Smough & Ornstein I JUMPED out of my seat into the air with raised fists, Skyrims nowhere near as tough, since you can pop potions with no delays and battles are more crazy with followers or conjurations.

Patience is a necessity for Dark souls, alot of people quit because of its toughness, but imo its one of the most rewarding games to play, that satisfaction of victory flows and inspires you to continue your journey foe after foe. Combat is also very unique. Skyrim doesnt have that level of satisfaction/reward, but I enjoy both hugely.

Ok. I feel really dumb for this one. I just now realized that when someone says "Divines smile on you, friend!" they are saying "The divines smile at you." not "What a divine smile you have, friend." And here I thought everyone liked my smile....

NPC: "Absolutely not, I will not have her running amok in my castle!"

Typical Dragonborn response: "Why not?"

NPC:"Well... I don't trust her! She robbed me blind and killed my pet skeever!"

Typical Dragonborn response: "Ok. Reconsider."

NPC: "I see your point... very well!"

Skyrim makes me feel like a genius!

It was in Volkihar castle. There's a candlestick that you turn to open the passageway at a dead end. I wandered back and forth through that place for an evening looking for what I'd missed...

That one got me too! I used the Clairvoyance spell and still was stuck there for a while!

WIN. I love that aswell, how everyone takes one word from you and their whole life is changed, I can remember one hilarious incident to this day I still chuckle at, I can't remember the dudes name, but I beat the crap out of him for a brawl cause he said he was the horse breaker or something, he had this nickname and he bragged about it so yea, why not test this guy out?!

Anyway, when the dudes lying in the corner all battered and bruised, I wait for him to get up, get the money, look around his house a bit downstairs, next thing you know I go back up to go out and talk to him and he says to me: "You've been a good friend to me, that means something". At this point I was laughing hysterically, I just knocked his lights out, dudes got the most warped sense of friendship ever.

I felt this thread the perfect place for my present dilemma.

Kahn is now a vampire lord. Kahn turned himself into vampire lord form. Now Kahn cannot figure out how to revert back! When I press 'circle' to bring up the menu, so that I can select 'powers,' the vampire lord perk tree appears instead. I can't figure out how to bring up my menu and am feeling quite stupid. Help.

I think it's either left bumper or the button you pull up 'favorites'. A list pulls up (game pauses obviously) and there will bit a list:

Bats
Reanimate
Revert form
etc

Click revert form to... well... revert form.

Tah-dah!

I went through half the game backtracking in every dungeon I visited. I eventually found about about the back doors.
So yeah skyrim mad me feel stupid.

So I'm flooding Nchardak with Neloth and my follower Eola, and this happened. One of the last cubes that you collect has some whirling blades guarding it, so I told Eola to "wait here." I grabbed the cube and left as the water was rising to flood the passageways. Neloth and I make it back to the top, and Eola isn't with us. I wait an hour. Not there. I wait two hours. Still not there. Finally, Kahn decides to go back and find her, as Eola is the one person in Tamriel that he cares for. After swimming through flooded passageways, finally Kahn finds Eola, standing with hands on hips in the flooded passage in which I told her to wait. Hmm... sorry Eola, my mistake, follow me! I blame the ale. :beermug:

This, literally, was three or four months ago... I finally made sense of that dialogue with whomever (think it was Delphine... ?) about seeing that dragon before. Don't ask me why, but I'd always asked myself, "What dragon? This is the first one I've fought." Now, I think since the epiphany, "If that was me, I would never have given the dragon enough thought to recognize him again later... I'm running for my bloody life here!"

It took me a few characters and reading it somewhere online to realize I could follow Hadvar in Helgen. I still prefer Ralof, though.

But here's my ultimate moment of ignorance:
The first time I played, I didn't really realize what "open world" meant. I thought I had to proceed with the main quest right away, that I had to go join the Stormcloaks, and the Companions (because I ran across them on my way to Whiterun. Oh yeah, and I had Whiterun and Windhelm confused, too.). In fact, at first, I thought the Companions and Stormcloaks were related, if not the same thing. I was having lots of fun with zero clue what I was doing.

Common sense with vampire-based enemies. Nearly every time I'm using a character who uses Destruction magic (which is frequently because mages are pretty chill) and am facing a horde of vampires, I tend to also assume that they're warlocks. Ergo, I use lightning against them.

They're obviously weaker to fire. So, I often facepalm at my own density in this game sometimes.
