yeah, I guess in roleplaying reasons I'd go with Lydia in this type of situation. But I'm sure everyone knows by now that Faendal is pretty much always my follower regardless of my character (who usually ends up being an elf so if she's going to be a xenophobe it'd be against man).

With an addition to what Joe said, I like Faendal because he (for the most part) stays out of the way. I rarely accidentally hit him unlike other followers. And he has saved my life more than once with his arrows. Especially when I'm rampaging as a warewolf and can't regenerate my health. He seems to be the only follower that actually keeps up with my crazy warewolf.

But then I'm pretty biased with this question since I don't use any other followers anymore.
I like Faendal with my High-Elf mages. He's not one for running out in front if I give him a really good bow and, as I have a tendency of killing my followers, he's one of the few that can stay out of the way. Of course, he does sulk so cutely when you actually do hit him by accident. I've actually had him stomp off home to Riverwood in the middle of a quest if I hit him, but he's always willing to come right back to work if I need him.

Lol! I do love when I run into him and he yells "Hey! Watch it!" He's voice seems to go up 2 octaves when he's startled. :p The very first time I took a follower with me (and I had no idea what I was doing) was him. I tried to follow the arrow to my destination instead of taking the roads. So my character is on the wrong side of the White River hopping from rock to rock where a follower wouldn't be able to follow. We had barely left Riverwood when Faendal said "fluff this!" and went home. When I realized he wasn't with me anymore I ran back to the town and found him chopping firewood and I just left him there. I assumed he just enjoyed chopping firewood more than adventuring :p
What a sorry excuse for an elf. I just take Jenassa. Course my Breton ranger married her cause she's bada** and he has a thing for the Dunmer women.:p

You might also consider Golldir. He's a surly Nord through and through, doesn't like necromancers and isn't too fond of elves.

polan can into space?
Bahaha, this wouldn't even be a choice for me. Free archery training and no annoying dialogue.

How do you backstab a Dragon?

I would normally agree with you, but on a heavy RP build of a standard stormy the elf thing is a serious drawback. I've played far too long to exploit things any more.

What? Oh. Goodby
Teldryn Sedro is by far the best follower to have, if you have the Dragonborn DLC that is.

Elf. Good, but wearing silly armor. It's like having a giant cockroach around. :) May use him for my mage though. At least as a dark elf he has fire protection. :)

To each their own. Just means more Faendal for me. And my game must have a different version of Faendal from others because he can keep up with my dragonborn without a problem. But *shrugs* my characters have a thing for Bosmers and he's the only available Bomser follower.

I love Faendal too. He's a great follower and love his dialogue. My whole post was about the RP on the whole thing. Playing a straight forward Stormcloak (xenophobic, non-nord hating, dumb, violent type), I was looking for a justification to keep him, but, since he's not a nord and, worse yet, he's an elf, I don't think I can continue to use him. I'll have to go for some Nord that can do archery. I don't even think he'd go for Aela since he'd view her as a slut due to her outfit and warpaint. He'll probably end up with Mjoll (I know she's not an archer), Uthgerd (again, not an archer, but certainly butch enough for him) or have to go for a guy, which really isn't his style. He's looking for a companion he can make a partner of.

I guess his parameters would be a conservative, female nord who is good at archery. I don't think any of them exist in SR. It's almost as frustrating as not being able to find a Khajit to marry my Khajit and being forced as a non-nord or even a non-human to adopt nord children or go without completely.

Yeah. Sorry if my two cents made no sense in context but your best bet is Lydia with some enchanted gear that enhances her archery. Course I never found her offensive and my spellsword runs with her everywhere. She compliments my beserker mage perfectly.:)

You're right. While she can be a little annoying with her "I am sworn to carry your burdens" line, but she is a pretty good follower (for the most part) and isn't too bad a shot. I guess Lydia it is. :) Thank you.

Np. Now that being said I wonder if it was her attitude that landed her as your housecarl in the first place.:p
