I'm a pretty newbie to the world of Skyrim. So, here's a noob dilemma -
I picked up a pretty heavy bounty as I went about finishing up locations, killing people from both sides at tandem. Now I have everyone behind my ass, without even having the option to talk anyone to the point that every soldier and NPC just attacks me on sight.

What do I do to get rid of this?

Either use console commands to get rid of the bounty, or do a minor crime. Sometimes stealing an apple works. Perhaps try calming a guard using a spell or the Imperial racial ability (voice of the Emperor) and talk to the guard. Or join the thieves guild. One of those options usually works. (Or in the console commands case, it always works.)

When in doubt, follow the fox.
You just gotta let them cool off for a few days. My highest bounty was about 21k. I killed just about every guard in Solitude. After a few days, I fast traveled to the Blue Palace UNARMED and just paid the bounty. Then they loved me once again.

Depends if your using a pc or xbox. If pc the just cheat it but if Xbox stay away from towns for a while and focus on quests that aren't in the towns and level up enough to be able to handle more than enough soldiers to live

This is the last straw, guys. Nothing seemed to be working. I was actually on the Smooth Jazbay quest, straying off the very first and going around the entire Skyrim collecting Jazbays, all the while collecting a pretty bounty in the Rift.
But after I return to Sarethi farm, let alone talk to me, she attacks me on sight. I tried everything - selecting her and paying the crime gold, stunning her unconscious, setting relation ship ranks.
But no matter what console commands I do, she, along with everyone else everywhere, just comes back and attacks me. Imperial and Stormcloak, everyone seems to team together to strike me down. :/

P.S. - I tried laying low in several locations I cleared. No avail... even unarmed everyone still turns hostile on sight.

I had to start a new game last night. Let me know if you guys can help me out one last bit.

I did. The bounty was of Rift. I paid it off and had the gold deducted from my stash and everything.
The NPC and guards stay quiet for a few seconds, then again turn red and recommence attacking.

A bug it is. People from Rift would still attack even after I'd taken a detour at Winterhold. :/

How do you backstab a Dragon?
I've had this happen before (I'm on PS3) - my only solution was to wait 30 days (in game) and then wait for the bounty hunter. For me it happened because I killed the dude from the Dawnguard in front of the guards outside Riften. Not a good idea. :)

I'm kinda a noob too. Thanks for teaching me to never pick up heavy bounties :p
Don't ever say "never" in Skyrim! Sometimes it's fun just to do things that piss people off and get HUGE bounties. I once had one of over 50K in Markarth (I killed all the guards and 1/2 the populace - I was in a bad mood). I eventually reloaded, but, it was funny that, after being away for 10 days, I just paid the bounty to the bounty hunter and, apparently, everybody forgot just what a homicidal jerk I had been. I had to reload though since I'd killed a good 1/2 the people I actually needed in Markarth!

Try it sometime - it's fun and a great way to blow off steam. :)
