I searched the thread for this and didn't find one. What's your favorite random encounter while travelling Skyrim?

I have a few. Maiq is always fun to talk to. I really like coming across the giant with his pet cow. And coming across the vampires dressed as Vigilants of Stendarr was a fun surprise.

The only one that felt random to me was that criminal running away from the hunter. He stops to talk to you and hands over what ever he stole. I always do this one differently.

hahaha. Oh, yeah! I love that one! One time it happened I was regretting not enchanting my bow with soul trap. A minute later the thief shows up with a bow with soul trap! When the hunter showed up I just pointed "He went that way" and watched the hunter shoot down the thief. I whistled innocently as I walked away with my new bow

Just kidding. That is my least favourite encounter. I would love to delete it entirely. I actually created a mod that made that encounter into a "run once" one... or was supposed to .

Anyway, more on topic:
Of the vanilla encounters, my favourite is probably the "Treasure Hunter with a note" one. Or maybe "Sabre Cats vs. Mammoth". Most of the vanilla encounters I've seen literally hundreds of times, and they've become pretty "meh". Dragon attacks never get old, though.
I use quite a few encounter mods that add tons of random encounters. Two of my favourite ones include "Vilkas and Farkas fighting a dragon" (except when it's a Nether/Storm/Spectral Dragon; encounter added by this mod) and a Dawnguard patrol consisting of - dunno if it's random - Durak, Agmaer, Ingjard and Sceolang (I honestly don't know which mod adds this).

Random encounters are part of the reason I never fast-travel, and very rarely use carriages. :D

I've only had a few encounters happen this far. But the ones I like are: running across M'aiq the Liar (my main character ran into him on the way out of Winterhold the other day - he was running and then cowering from an ice wraith which my character took care of for him). The wandering bard was kinda fun to run into. The hunter versus thief one I've done a few different times. Only twice have I ever given the weapon back. Oddly enough like Rhew said I've been wishing for a certain enchantment on a weapon and then wham this dude gives it to me. Kinda awesome. I had one the other day which I'm not sure is a random encounter per se but was awesome nevertheless: a thief ran into me while my main character was hunting around the area around Windhelm (needed to recharge some weapons and hunting is a easy way to get souls for soul gems), and gave me about 1500 septims, saying that this was my promised cut and then snuck off. I think it's due to all the TG reputation quests I had done that day but it was a pleasant surprise. :)

Pretty damn funny!!

How do you backstab a Dragon?
I like the "Wandering Bard". Recently, whenever I kill him, all I need to do is go around a corner and there he is again! Of course, I kill him again. The same thing seems to be happening with Balbus the fan of the "Gourmet". Hey, it's 2 free Daedra hearts at level 3!

So I'm just messing around the other night, console-spawning random things to fight with and at one point I spawn a group of Ebony Warriors.

In the midst of the battle right as I am swinging at one of them, Talsgar the Wanderer just decides that the middle of this mass of humanity would be an excellent place to go wandering and before i know it, he walks right into an inadvertent kill cam shot.

Hahahaha, that guy who gives you the stolen weapon, then Crouch runs away in FULL sight, broad daylight in a FIELD is hilarious. Only am I then met by the dumbest blind hunter I've ever met, Where did he go? Oh I wonder WHERE he could be? - He went that way! Pmsl.

I once had a random encounter of a troll being attacked, I helped it expecting to have to kill it aswell, but guess what?! HE WASN'T HOSTILE TOWARDS ME! We proceeded to talk about the state of Orcs trolls and beasts of Skyrim, he told me he was BRIAN we drank mead and became good friends, he strolled off into the nearby swamp and I left for my next adventure!

The old orc, I always honor his request and Tolsgar the Wanderer, every time I start a new game after leaving helgen I run towards that bandit camp and down the road to the lake and there he is coming around the corner, either killing a wolf or a skeever that is usually there.

That fugitive guy ran up to me just outside Riften Stables one time after I told Shadr I cleared his debt with Sapphire. I hung around for a bit and then the hunter came up to me. I handed him the item because it was something useless, and then he ran off to attack the fugitive. The Riften guards just stood around watching the fugitive getting slaughtered and Shadr got scared and climbed up on one of the horses.

And you know sometimes you encounter a peddler being attacked by bandits, and if you manage to rescue him, he thanks you? Well, this one time I came upon the peddler standing next to his horse, and I watched him running off to attack the bandits. I charged forward on my own horse to help, but the bandits were remarkably tough, and one of them beat the peddler down and then came for me. The peddler recovered and attacked the bandit again and she killed him, and her fellow bandit killed the horse. It was messy, but I thought serves you right for deliberately confronting bandits when you should have been jumping on that horse and riding the hell away from there.

Lmao, some really funny stuff goes on around skyrim with random events, earlier this week I was playing it doing a few dungeon dives, and I just came out from this cave and a Bear was being attacked by two bandits or something and my followers started throwing a few firebolts at the bear and then proceeded to kill the bandits, it gets really hilarous from here.

Basically the bandits didnt attack my party till the bear was killed, and one of them died from Eola's barrage, by the time the bear was down, one bandit was left...then completely out of nowhere this Royal Noble on a horse comes riding in from where the F*** knows and is slashing the bandit on horseback.
At this point I was laughing because the Noble was pushing Eola around with the horse and making it so she couldnt melee the bandit.

I decided for Eola's pride, and my own need for a horse at that particular moment that I was gonna butcher this noble and steal the horse (no one was around to see my malice). I also had been running around for aaaages and badly needed a ride.

- Another strange random event, I discovered another cave and this Stormcloak Courier comes running out from the cave and I'm just stood there thinking.... Like any of you Stormcloaks would enter a cave, either the delivery was to a close relative Hagraven or you were threatened to do it...Lol.

Well, for the first time ever the other day I ran into what remained of a Khajiit caravan. They were all plain-clothed and, presumably, mercilessly slaughtered. I was soon attacked by a mob of three bandits. Following that bout, another four showed up; two being chiefs. I know I've seen the mob of four with two chiefs before on a separate occasion, but it was neat they they spawned right near the caravan.

My favourite events are:

The Aspiring Mage - "It's apparent you have no idea what you're doing..."

The Black Star mages because their souls fill my Black Star. How ironic...

The Treasure Hunter - Oddly enough, I've never seen this one on any of my characters besides on level one playthroughs. So far there have been two Iron Daggers of Fatigue and one Sapping, an Iron Sword of Sapping; and, lastly, the most amusing, Iron Mace of Sapping said to be guarded by a Hagraven. ...

...What?...

...You were going to Dead Crone Rock to fight a Hagraven when you couldn't even handle a wolf or two? Not to mention, all in an effort to possess some fabled Iron Mace of Sapping? Worst treasure hunter in the world.

I had an odd encounter just outside Hillgrund's tomb. Just cleared the dungeon and parted with Golldir, and a dragon landed in front of me and just died. Didn't see anything hit him, he just threw his head back and disintegrated in front of me without anyone striking a blow. Then when I descended the steps leading to the road, I noticed some flames on the ground and Maiq was there examining two dead bodies, a wood elf and an imperial, and there was also a stray dog standing nearby. I let the dog follow me, and then saw there was an overturned carriage on the road side. I've used this path many times in different games but never seen anything like that before in this location.

Nothing more entertaining than a good ol' fashioned dragon spawn imo.
