So I got the Azura's star. Now I have to make a choice should I take it to Aranea or should I take it to Nelacar. I was thinking I would take it to Nelacar since it would than be able to accept human souls. I think human souls are easier to obtain than creatures, and therefore the black star would be more functional for me. Let me know what you think. Also I'm curious if either of these choices affect future quests

Nope, once you get it as the Azura's or the Black star it stays that way. If you think the Black Star would work for you better go with that. Once you obtain the artifact there isn't any post quests to complete. So choose what ever one would work for you best because I don't think you can change it, I always get the black star because I kill more people than creatures.

The black star actually glitches out and takes any soul.

you want to go with the black star, on any platform it will absorb all souls all the way up and including black souls. As indicated this is a glitch as it is supposed to only absorb black souls.

I forgot that I had an option to get a black star and just have Azura's star, but honestly I have no complaints about it at all. So what it can't absorb human souls, do you know how many bears and sabre cats I kill?

I thought this was going to be such a fantastic item when I first got it. For some reason, I figured soul gems would be somewhat rare. It didn't exactly turn out that way. I think I've got at least 50 filled of every size and I get more of them quicker than I could ever need to use them. Sadly, I rarely even bother to scroll down the list and even use the soul in the Black Star

I have the black star, however it may or may not prevent you from getting the achievement for having 15 daedric items. If you don't really care, then go with the black star. Most animal souls are less than greater. Human souls are much easier to obtain.

Bad to the Dragonbone.
I have the 15 Daedric items achievement and I have always chosen the Black Star. It's worth it even without the glitch. Bandits are easier to kill than mammoths are and there are a LOT more bandits. And farmers. And Thalmor. And Imperials. And Stormcloaks .....

Get the Black Star; it's very useful as black souls are much easier to find than regular grand souls.

*Note: I don't believe the Black Star is glitched. By definition, a black soul gem can hold any soul. The Black Star is just that: a black soul gem that cannot be broken through enchanting.

I went with the black star. I haven't used it yet, not even to capture a soul. I literally just got it five minutes ago and went outside for a cigerette. It was my intention all along to turn it into the black star, I just wanted to see what everybody thought. I just joined the forum yesterday. I'm not new to the Elder Scroll Series. I played Oblivion, that is the reason I bought my Xbox 360 in the first place. Dungeon crawlers are my favorite, been playing them since my SNES and A Link to the Past. I mostly play Zelda games, or games like that. Although I'd like to I never played Morrowind or any of the Elder Scrolls besides Oblivion. I'm excited to have people to talk to about Skyrim. My girlfriend thinks its boring, so I don't bore her with tales of my adventures. I can do that here now. Thanks for the input everybody. I look forward to sharing more of my experiences and questions here in the future.

funny enough that's why i started playing skyrim i grew up on the zelda games also love the fable games and when i found skyrim i was in heaven love that you have different races i had to be a khajiit i love cats haha :D just done this quest and chose the black star im still abit confused how to exactly use it lol

Black Star every time. I play on PC and it only holds black souls so that's possibly fixed in a patch. Even with that, it's easy to get the other soul gems and fill them. Having a constantly renewable black gem is a huge plus.

I tend to role-play it. If my character has no qualms about sentencing human souls to the cairn then he goes with the Black Star. If he is a bit more scrupulous he will go the other way. I've had a character who claimed it just to lock it away (he also collected soul gems to prevent them from being used).

If that isn't your cup of tea then I would go with the Black Star, it is far more useful.

How do you backstab a Dragon?
No real affect on future quest. The only thing is you don't get the priestess as a follower, but she's only meh as a follower anyhow.

Depends on your RP. If you don't collect human souls than Azura is fine (it still picks up grand souls from mammoths and overlords), but, you're right. Human souls are much easier to pick up since you get the same one from a townie as you would from a bandit chief.

I usually end up going to Nelacar, just cause I could give a crap about human souls but feel guilty collecting animal ones. They didn't do anything, why should I use them in my enchanting when I can not only get a soul but loot the bodies of my human victims (not to mention their now abandoned homes).

One last thing - other than you'll end up being tracked by followers of the douche that took it in the first place, but, since you're already being tracked by the DB (if you haven't joined), cultists and any number of other folks out to kill you anyhow, it really isn't important.
