To answer the title question.

On console. That way you never have to worry about mods, exciting happenings or anything other than vanilla.

Easy, boring and cheap.

Oh wait... maybe that's not a good thing...

Oh, thanks Daelon!! Actually I'm quite happy with Xbox but I did want to try mods, especially mods with new quests in them. Unfortunately, I visited nexus mods, and there's like (finger to cheek) 1 BILLION of them!
While I have both the PC (had it built months ago) and the game, I am far too intimidated by all the mods and learning to play a completely different way to even try it. So far, all I use it for is NetFlix. :)

omg Daelon... come over to the Dark Side ! Mods galore! Do it...DO IT !!!

One thing I'd like to mention regarding Skyrim's PC controls is that remapping the Shout/power key to M3 (the mouse scroll) was one of the best ideas I've ever had.
The default, Z, is a perfectly good hotkey, but not for something I use as frequently as Shouts. Way too tricky when in combat.

Bad to the Dragonbone.
I jumped on the Steam bandwagon a few months ago and so far haven't regretted the decision. And of course when I saw Skyrim on sale I couldn't pass it up. While I seem to be able to manage playing Minecraft on PC effortlessly, I can't be bothered to use the keyboard for Skyrim when I'm so accustomed to a controller. To me it was well worth it to buy an Xbox 360 controller for the PC.

Now my game is modded almost to my satisfaction and I can play the way I've wanted.

When in doubt, follow the fox.
So, I got the adapter for using the xbox controller on PC, and my computer won't recognize the driver. neither will my husband's monster work computer. So far, I'm SOL.

I agree, though my shout key is mouse 5 and sprint is mouse 4, key actions being so close makes the game a lot smoother, I couldn't play with the default layout to be honest.

When I bought the adapter it did the same thing I found a guide online to get it to work.

Right click on Computer
Go to Properties
Click on Device Manager
Right click on the Unidentified Device
Go to Properties
Go to the Drive tab
Click on Update Driver
Browse my computer for driver software
Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
Windows Common Controller for Window Class
Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows Version: 2.1.0.1349 [8/13/2009]
Update Driver Warning
Click Yes

Its a little confusing at first but it worked for me. Hopefully it'll work for you as well. Good luck

Yeah, that is a solution to the problem. The problem being, that most of the adapter dongles being sold online (even from reputable websites, i.e. amazon, newegg, etc.) are counterfeit. Microsoft hasn't produced those dongles in years. If it's not immediately recognized by your PC then it's not a microsoft product.

That being said, the above solution WILL work if the dongle isn't physically broken.

Well, I have my handy guide on what does what. So I don't need that. Other than specific advice on how to open up gameplay, I'm just wondering how you all go about it? Do you remember learning to do it? What can you share about how to approach it if you've never done it before?
I don't think I can help mate, I've played PC games since I was 8 lol. My mouse has 7 buttons too, so a lot of key actions are bound to be easy to access, such as sprint/shout etc. What do you find easier to do on console than PC? I may be able to give you a few tips if I know what specific tasks you're struggling with, as I have played Skyrim on console.

I suppose it just feels hopelessly awkward. My xbox controller is an extension of my brain. I don't think about what I'm doing at all. But I have to think about everything with keyboard and mouse. To the point where I just literally can't play the game.
Im exactly the opposite. The keyboard and mouse are my hands, and a controller takes me forever to move around and look at stuff. I usually cant even look straight on a console FPS game with a controller. It all boils down to what your comfortable with. Connect that controller to your PC, game on!
