Hello, I have been playing Skyrim since it first same out. Played several times on my old PC and now on my Xbox 360. I don't like the bugs you can't get around in the 360. I liked the PC's console commands to force a bugged quest. More later...

Anyway, I married and built my house and adopted two girls. After starting Dawnguard (don't know if this is related though) I did some quests with Serana and finally went to Lakewood Manor and my wife was gone. I assume she died while I was away. Can't find a body anywhere but every time I go back she's no longer there.

So I wore the Amulet of Mara and tried other women but it wouldn't work.

So I guess I can't get remarried in Skyrim?

Thanks.

Jack.

When in doubt, follow the fox.
No, you get one chance at marriage. Don't give up on finding your wife. Sometimes they're just out and about. Sometimes they've been kidnapped, which you will eventually hear about. Most of the time, they come around. I remember being entirely paranoid that I lost my wife/husband. Now, I never am, and they always show up.

Thanks, that's right! I forgot about kidnapping! I haven't even taken Serana home yet so I'll bet that's what happened.

Will have to keep on going and see what happens.

Good forum! I have a lot of other bug questions for later on too.

If you haven't received a Letter of Inheritance, then it's likely she is still alive. Without knowing who she is I can't say for certain. Some NPC's like to get out and about. Housecarls will go wandering around your property, even stroll into town. Aela the Huntress has been known to disappear, only to be found miles away hunting... it all depends on who you married.

Hopefully it is not a glitch. If it's not, if you wait for a while, she should return.

if unsure fast travel to a hold and see if a courier comes to you or not, they usually try to get you in the city, or travel to the npcs place ( the hold you meet them) and scope out the hall of the dead, they could have a spot there not really sure

Thank you all. She finally did appear. I was out doing other things with Faendal and Serana and I went back and there she was in the house. I have never seen this before but then I never married Gilfre (I think that's her name, from a lumberyard). Maybe she was out wandering about. Good point about a letter of inheritance. But even if I did receive one I still would not be able to remarry would I? Kind of a shortfall. Also I' wish you could adopt more children. But Betheseda is no longer supporting this game and they would never fix things.

if you're on ps3/xbox then no you can't remarry and can't adopt more than 2 kids, PC you can work your way around it

How do you backstab a Dragon?
If you're on console, sometimes it will glitch (the Amulet of Mara) and you can marry multiple times (sometimes even more than one at one time). That happened to me on my first couple of runthroughs, but never again. I think it was because it was strictly vanilla with no DLCs except Hearthfire or updates at the time. Never been able to adopt more than 2 kids though.

I returned home to Lakeview Manor and I had to fight this Highway Bandit, I think he was. Dude attacked my horse. You don't attack my horse.
Anyway, after killing him from my rooftop (archer), I looted his body and found a ransom note that lead me to Knifepoint Ridge. I ran around the house, couldn't find Ysolda. I went to sleep and there she was walking around outside. Either I interrupted them kidnapping her, or the game glitched. I think it glitched because now she does a lot of walking in place...
Then I went to Knifepoint Ridge and didn't find the person who had supposedly kidnapped her. Weird glitch.

The poor woman is obviously traumatized. You need to make her a pot of hot spiced wine and put her to bed :p
