When in doubt, follow the fox.
When I first created spiders in Solstheim, I was mildly intrigued. I used them as novelties for a short while, then I put them in a chest, for 2 reasons: 1. at .5 weight, they're heavy if you make a lot, and it seems like you have to make a lot. Didn't have the room. 2. Because they're scrolls, they are no use to me for leveling up.
However, with my current character, I'm re-thinking spiders. I'm currently level 52, master, archery 95/destruction 83/1-handed 91, with these perk trees filled.
This is why:
1. They're cool looking. Fire one up and look at it: wow, so beautiful!
2. They make great temporary pets. I try not to bond, but, well, they're so cute!
3. When you have one in your hand, and are in 1st person, the dang spiders are ALIVE! They have realistic spider-like movements and even make sounds. Going about in 1st person with a spider in your hand is creepily awesome.
4. I fired up an ash spawn and about 6 spiders to kill Ahzidal. Just sat there and watched the show. They kept every draugr busy, Ahzidal's health went to a tiny line, at which point I bumped into him and killed him.
5. ONE frost spider killed a bear unassisted.
6. TWO spiders kill any draugr Deathlord unassisted.
7. THREE spiders kill any dragon priest unassisted.
Funny story. I joined the College of Winterhold at level 52, and when I went to Fellglow Keep to kill the Caller, I negotiated a peace with her, got the books, fired up about 12 spiders of different types. She's still not an enemy at this point. Then I was going to knock her back a bit with my sword and let the spiders feast. Well, my sword actually cut her head off in a cut scene. So now I have 12 spiders following me everywhere. They're like baby ducklings!!
