Welcome to the forums :)

There are a lot of advantages and disadvantages to owning a lot of the different homes in Skyrim, especially so when including the Hearthfire DLC. It often depends on your priorities which is the best. So, what sort of thing does a house need to have for your character? Does it need to be in a city of nearby a major town? Do you need access to certain equipment, like a forge, somewhere to grow crops or a fish hatchery? And how much say would you like in the type of the building? Hearthfire allows you to tailor your house to your own preferences, to a certain degree.

Thankyou :)

I am looking for a house with many working displays and armour stands. I would like for many shops to be nearby. I have also collected many books so i would like a house with many bookshelves/ a library...

What do you suggest?

Based on your needs, I would think about Vlindrel Hall in Markarth, or Proudspire Manor in Solitude. Hjerim in Windhelm has more armor mannequins and almost as much bookshelf space, but it's buggy as hell and items tend to disappear from the upper level.

Unless you decide to build one of the Hearthfire homes, where you could choose your own layout and storage options.

If it helps any, I've had all three Hearthfire houses, on PS3. All have their scenery benefits, but the house design itself is the same. Lakeview (Falkreath Hold) seemed to be the most buggy/laggy for me.

The advantages of the Hearthfire houses is that you can build an armoury and a library tower. The disadvantage is that they are both options for the same wing of the house. So you need to build 2 to have both options. Lakeview, while being the one with an occasional glitch or two, is the nearest Hearthfire house to civilisation - if you can call Falkreath civilisation.

My latest build has Lakeview as a place for quiet contemplation with a library tower, Winstad as a man cave with the armoury and Proudspire Manor in Solitude for the wife and kids.

Proudspire Manor for me. With goatk's mod it has plenty of assets.
Space for books, smithy, bath, enchanting table, alchemy facilities
living requirements.
alternative, build your own.

Quick question- are the hearthfire display cases supposed to say activate or do just put what ever you want in them and the items wont disappear?

Those hearthfire cases didn't work for me until I loaded a glitch fix mod. Then they acted like normal cases.

do you remember the name of that mod, or link to it? I always hated that I had to fuss around trying to get an object to stay in the display case ....
