I went to disenchant a robe that increases your magic regeneration by 75% and apparently the game thinks I already know a magic regeneration enchant..which I don't. I have a enchant that increases your magic by X amount of points but that's the only magic enchant I have.

Have you tried loading an earlier save? Or reloading your game?

I think there's a glitch in Skyrim that causes some robes to give Fortify Magicka instead of Regenerate Magicka when disenchanted. That might be the problem here.

I think that's the problem im having since reloading my save didn't do anything. Do you know which robes actually give my the magic regeneration enchant instead the fortify magic enchant?

Well, the standard Novice Robes do I think. NOT the Novice Robes of Destruction/Illusion/Conjuration etc. but just the Novice Robes. Also, there are plenty of random rings, circlets and helmets you can find that'll give regenerate magicka.

Ok, looking in the creation kit, anything with college magicka regen enchantments 01 - 05 will actually give magicka regeneration. Of the other robe enchantments, (02-05) only 03 is actually going to disenchant for regeneration. They all have the magical effect of regeneration, but 02, 04, and 05 have the base enchantment of fortify magicka rate, so they would disenchant differently. This covers several different varieties of robes, including your common, skull-front necro robes. If you can find 100% regen necro robes, they should work, as should any of the college base robes.

As Cherry mentioned, the school-specific (destruction and magicka regen) will come as a separate enchantment, but the plain jane novice robes should do the job for you.

I believe Replenishment is either 04 or 05. You want Robes of Recharging for the 03 level, or the college robes.

It looks like they're not going to do it for you either. You want Robes of Recharging, hooded or otherwise. In ck, they're either necro robes or warlock robes, but the enchantments are the same. Look for the one that gives you 100%. In the circles, you can see the mistake Bethesda made, by one letter. They should say fortify magicka rate base, but some say fortify magicka base. The robes do give you the recharge, but their base enchantment got screwed up somehow, leaving you fewer options. I'd hit the mages at the college, the court mages, or Radient Raiments in Solitude. Look for Robes of Recharging, or the basic college robes (novice, adept, etc.)

I purchased one of the expert robes from the college (magic regenerates 125% faster) and it worked when disenchanting it. thanks for the help Joe. I got another question though, does it matter how strong the enchant is when disenchanting an item? I've read that when disenchanting an item that the strength of the enchant doesn't matter? is this true?

To my knowledge, yes that is true. Your disenchantment of an item only teaches you the base secret (ie: fire damage) and then the strength of what you enchant relies on your enchanting level itself, any pertinent perks, potions, etc. If you have a sword of sparks and a sword of thunderbolts, it's most lucrative to disenchant the weaker and sell the stronger, as it will be more valuable to you. As with anything, though, you should get into the habit of making a hard save before you disenchant anything, especially if you're not sure you can enchant one at least as strong. This way, if you decide it wasn't worth it, you can undo it.

If you run into questions, these two sites both have very good information on almost every actor, quest, item, and topic in Skyrim. They sometimes differ, though not by much, but both have a lot to offer that may save you time and frustration. These are the enchanting pages, specifically, but you can search your specific topics within them. It's an especially big help when you run into that one frustrating puzzle, finding the weak spot of a hard-to-beat boss, etc.
