The first time I noticed it was during the quest when you had to go retrieve queen freydis's sword, I got completely dominated on one spot by that damn master conjurer and the two flame atronachs. it took me 6-7 tries just to get the sword lol. just now I was doing the quest where you have to find the source of power in sunderstone gorge, there's a part where there's like 4 mages in one small area and I died in like 3 seconds! I have the agent of mara thing plus a resist magic necklace on so I have a 25% resist magic and im still getting dominated by magic. I have never gotten dominated this much by magic since I've had this game, the heck is going on?

I've had that happen...it sucks, badly. Try the Lord stone. It will give you another 25% magic resistance, and an extra 50 damage resistance (adds to your armor rating). The price to pay is that your other stone disappears and your skills rise at normal levels.

The other thing you could try (if your enchanting is high enough) is to disenchant your necklace and make a new necklace, ring, shield, etc. Save first, so if it doesn't enchant high enough to make a real difference, you can go back to what you had. You could also scour the blacksmiths and merchants for resist fire, frost, shock enchantments. I've found I can get about twice as much strength out of an individual resistance as I can out of a general magic resistance. Depending on your race, you could do specific enchantments on your boots and a ring, for whichever you feel you want to be strongest, and leave the necklace as it is. Supplement with potions.

Definitely what Joe said.

Work on your enchanting. Remember, you can have a max of 85% magic resistance against those pesky mages. Definitely get the Lord stone, which, like Joe said, provides 25% magic resistance and 50 points in armor. With that, you only have to worry about 60% of magic resistance. Keep in mind that the "magic resistance" enchantment is indeed weaker than a specific magic resistance enchantment, like, "resist fire" or whatever. For example, the max magic resistance I can get on one piece of attire is twenty something percent, where I can get a fire, shock, or frost resistance at 45% on one piece of attire. So if you want, you can pick two types of specific resistances, like fire and frost (but that will leave you vulnerable to shock), or just go with the generic magic resistance, but you will need to enchant more pieces with this in order to reach the 85% resistance cap. If you decide to pick two specific types of resistance enchantments, I've always picked fire and frost because I have noticed that I encounter those mages more frequently than mages that stick to shock or lighting (whatever it's called, I can't remember at the moment). Good luck!

What I don't understand is, I usually just have the agent of mara thing and im completely fine with just that but on this play through even with the agent of mara thing and a 10% resist magic necklace on im getting completely dominated. it's like everyone and their mom is using either ice spikes (the one that impales you and slows you down) or exploding fireballs.

I've definitely gotten the wrong end of the mage stick before, on more than one occasion. The mara quest is what, 15%? With your necklace, you've only got 25 total. If you're encountering mages with more than flames or frostbite, are you above level 10? Also, what race are you? One with an inborn resistance?

I'm a level 34 imperial. one of my last characters was a level 52 imperial with agent of mara and even then I didn't get completely dominated like I am now so I don't know what's going on.

I can only assume you just got lucky last time. 15% magic resistance doesn't do much for me. At least until you're stronger, I'd try for fire/frost/shock enchantments alone. (boots/necklace/ring) and throw magic resistance on your shield. It should help you some.

Yesterday, I got blasted to oblivion six or so time doing the Azura's star quest. I would use Sanguine's rose, but those damn Dremora would blast the plops out of him, then they'd blast the plops out of me with a quickness! So, I went home to Lakeview Manor, and I enchanted a necklace, a ring, and some boots, for fire resistance. When I went back into the star, those same fireballs which before killed me in two hits, hardly hurt me at all. I could actually take my time, and hack the pesky Dremora at my leisure.

I actually whirlwind sprinted up to him and started chopping, before the dremora could catch up.

each character I've had though had the agent of mara and I never had such a big problem against magic before that's what I don't understand
