Wanna know what's frustrating? Building a character almost the exact way you want it, putting in the right skills you want for him/her, etc only to really want to change their physical appearance? And no I don't just mean little things, I mean their race too (which can't be done in the game or any DLC at all). I was building a great thief, assassin, archer type of build, but now I really want to change her race and how she looks! Has this happened to anyone else?

Constantly. Thankfully, I play on PC. So I can /showracemenu and tweak my character's appearance however I please, as often as I please.

I've never changed a character's race or gender, though. Not that I can't, I just wouldn't feel right changing such a huge feature. I'd most likely just make an entirely different character.

Yeah I get what you mean. I only play on the console though, but often wish I could use commands like you have mentioned.

Hmm, but doesn't changing your race or gender reset your stats? I remember trying it and something like that happened. s:

And really, this is the exact reason why I can't get to level 30. I keep making more and more new characters because I want to be a new race or something. It sucks ;w;

It doesn't really reset them, I don't think. But it does make them all wonky. I've only tried it once, just to sate my curiosity. Make as many characters as you like. I tend to play a character until they fulfill a set of objectives. Then I move on to the next to experience (or revisit) another part of the game. The Familiar Faces mod makes the habit of creating a ton of alts more productive, at least.

This save's Dragonborn is next save's follower.

I really do know that feeling. I've played Skyrim on the Xbox360 for years. Only in the past few months did I get the idea to load it up on the PC, and I'm really glad I did. It's a whole new game.

You have no idea how many septims I wasted on that snobby face-sculptor.

It's a big hammer.
Of course!! This is one of the many reasons why I don't have a level 80+ character.

I've restarted a character before because as soon as I get out of Helgen, I'm not happy with their eyebrows, or face paint, or scar, or hair style, or any of the many other tiny details that are easily fixed by the face sculptor. But the face sculptor isn't until I get some money under my belt and everything else. I can't wait! So, I restart and do Helgen for the 1 millionth time.

If it comes down to race or gender... Just have to restart. No other way around it. I almost always make Nords and a few times I've made a character and was like, "Y'know, this would b a great <insert race>." My willingness to restart randomly is unhealthy. I've even had characters where I feel like I'm relatively into, but suddenly get the urge to do something else.

Almost the equivalent of all of your character's life savings? Yeah I think I can relate.

You've pretty much just completely summed up what I go through. I'm sticking to my female Dunmer thief/assassin for now, but I sort of wish that I could change her to a nord without having to start over.

When in doubt, follow the fox.
ok wait, you can't go to the face sculptor in riften to do that? What? I thought you could change everything.

Face sculptor only lets you change cosmetic stuff, like skin tone, war paint, eye colour, hair colour and styles, etc. You can't change race, sex or name.

I've never wanted to change a character's race, but i have found myself creating a new character, then a while later looking at them in a new light and been like "what the hell was I thinking designing him like THAT?"

The character creation at the beginning of the game is really quite awkward, the prison rags make it quite difficult to tell how the character's build will turn out and there are certain things that don't show up clearly like lines on the face, and when you see them later on, they look weird.

Haven't had the issue since I'm on PC. The standard console method does reset some skills and perks typically if you change sex or race and sometimes you get wonky results when you revert back from werewolf or vampire forms. I've had times where I changed back to the original race because your werewolf form is the werewolf-race version of your original and that doesn't reset when you change via console so you revert back to the non-werewolf of that werewolf race.

There are mods that do a better job of it w/o any of those problems.

I primarily stick with cosmetic tweaks, though I do have a save immediately after the Helgen intro that I used to use to start new characters from so I could skip watching that sequence for the 90th time. Now I use the 'Live Another Life" or something else similar to start with instead.

Were I still on my PS3 version, I'd be in the same boat with wanting to change all the time I'm sure.

Well, when you get the Dawnguard DLC pack a person in the Riften Ratway (with a fee of 1,000 gold) you can then change your appearance (I believe, I haven't gone to see her yet so I don't know)

The face sculptor thing is true, but what is being discussed is the things that the face sculptor can't change, like being a dunmer and wanting to be a Nord.

I have had that similar where I start off as a High Elf and get out of Helgen or even get to Bleak Falls Barrow and say I really should have went with the Argonian.

I personally don't care about changing the sex. For some reason I just can't get into playing as a female character. I have tried a few times and they have been deleted by level 9. I did make an Imperial female that was a pure archer/thief. She made it to level 23 for she went to on to the great Skyrim in the Sky.

My biggest thing has always been the race. Then followed by the name.
