I've been using it after I got expert on Alteration and it paralyzes most enemies but I think its overpowered and if you combine fortify alteration on it.... what do you guys/gals think? (so far the only thing it can't paralyze is a Dragon for a reason I guess)

Yes, but I find it too be a lot of fun. I hate Nazir with a passion, so Paralyzing him is a lot of fun, just fall and lay their bro

I agree with Golgo. There are many things in Skyrim that are over-powered. Invisibility+Assassin's Blade perk, Twin Souls perk, enchanting/smithing your armor and weapons enough to get 80% damage reduction or to be able to one-shot giants, etc.

If anything, paralyze isn't too over-powered, because of it's magicka cost. Also, while it's cheap in a one-on-one fight, it's far less useful when your out-numbered.

Let's take some advice from M'aiq the Liar :
"So much easier to get around these days. Not like the old days. Too much walking. Of course, nothing stops M'aiq from walking when he wants."

By this, M'aiq means that some people dislike fast travel as it is 'unrealistic'. Because it is a positive feature and makes life easier, why not include it in-game? If you want the game to be 'realistic', you can just walk everywhere and never use fast-travel. No one's stopping you.

This applies to 'over-powered' features of the game as well. If used properly, it's a great add-on. If used excessively, it's overpowered. If you don't want it, don't use it. Simple as that.

yeah i seem to have a dilemma on using this spell.im the type of player who doesnt like so much stuff listed in my inventory.i think if im gonna use this i would skip the magicka costing perk. true there are tons of things op in skyrim. if you're not too careful on picking your stuff u might end up on a imbalance character.

I don't abuse, but have Ice Form hotkeyed for those fight that I need it. Now, that comes out instantly, can hit multiple mobs in front of you, and doesn't cost Magicka if you hapen to be a Destruction Mage. That's what i call OP, except for the cooldown, which means you can't spam it. The Alteration Spell takes up a hand, a little while to charge up, and a whole lot of Magicka, which i tend to consider better balanced with the fact that it can be Spammed. Paralysis Poison, if you're doing Alchemy, can be combined with Lingering Poison Damage, so you can just let them die. And, you can apply it in the safety of the Menu (Paused) so the next strike is a killshot. Nasty. The Enchantment effect is the least reliable, except for Paralyzing Strike, which is also tricky to land, and finally, there's Deep Freeze, which is almost Expert level (70 Destruction) but unreliable, and requires them to be low on health to proc in the first place.

Listed in order of relative OPness (If you'll pardon the expression) the spell is second only to the Shout for abusability.

i see what you mean, me personally i try to limit my shouts to just 5 the most. im considering paralyze but i wont take the expert casting perk according to uesp once you hit 100 alteration the cost would be cut 41 percent.or i may just end up using become ethereL.. i dont like imbalance characters. once i find my character too strong i end up scrapping it.

I generally use it to disable characters that don't like me, but that I don't want to hurt. Like Vigilants of Stendarr. Then I get on my horse and go on my merry way. By the time they wake up, I'm long gone.

It's more amusing than mind-soothing spells.

Of course not. It's gateway spells such as these which make technological advances such as the world-renowned "T-Bag" possible while your opponent is breathing, in such a T-Bagless world like Skyrim.
