When in doubt, follow the fox.
I remember seeing "Pick up plate" and thinking, OMG, they want me to pick up that plate! That must mean something! I also have PTSD from some caves, like Sightless Pit, and Forsaken Cave, which I tried to clear way too soon. To this day, I have emotional reactions to these places.

My very first character was a Wood Elf called Tondon (a screenname I used at that time). I can't remember why I picked Bosmer. Might have been because it said they were good at archery.

Finding my way to the very first tower, right after "Unbound" started, was the most difficult task ever. Took me a long time.

I arrived in Riverwood in the middle of the night, and the first thing I did was kill a chicken and a cow. Then I somehow ended up at Anise's cabin, explored her basement, and got killed by her spells. Had to try that fight a few times. Returned to Riverwood, only to get slaughtered by angry townsfolk.

When I finally progressed to the "Talk to the Jarl of Whiterun" objective, I blindly followed the quest marker. This led me across Nazeem's "very successful business, obviously" farm, and to the city wall. I then spent a good fifteen minutes trying to scale the wall.

At some point I joined the Stormcloaks (I had followed Ralof partly because I hadn't realized I had a choice, and so gotten the "Join the Stormcloak rebellion" misc quest), however I had absolutely no idea what the war was even about.
Skyrim was my first TES game, and I had zero knowledge of the lore (I didn't even know the lore existed).

I did NOT get launched into the orbit by a Giant, which is surprising. I did however try to get to Hjaalmarch by going through Labyrinthian (I still hadn't realized I had a map), at a low level and with crappy equipment. Can't remember if I ever actually got past all the trolls. One try included making a run for it, and leaving Lydia to the trolls. :D

I played on Novice for the first two months or so. I, too, tend to start new games at the easiest difficulty.

First time I played Skyrim, I made an Orc warrior named Shrek. I followed Ralof out of Helgen and when I got to Riverwood, I killed the chicken in the middle of town and the whole town tried to kill me. This was weeks before I bought the game and I was playing a friend's copy.
Whydja kill the chicken? Hungry Shrek?
Because it was a chicken and that's what it's there for.

Get in ma belly ya damm chicken!

LOL ! Desperately trying to climb the wall (or rather, hopping around spastically as we do in Skyrim...) - that's a great visual.

Here's For Your Trouble
In my first game I played as a khajit on the default difficulty (adept?). I decided to play smart and limit the number of skills I'd use, but actually I ended up using too few. Only archery, sneak, light armour and two handed, and after a while I ditched two handed when I got the cool archery perks. I didn't touch smithing, alchemy or enchanting so it was a good thing I started on adept.

I got into that mess in Markarth where you've already done Cidhna Mine but the guards still want to arrest you. I ended up having to kill every guard in the town every time I visited, until I looked it up and found out you can fix that by taking Markarth for the Stormcloaks. I finished the civil war questline but then, with the DB, ended up assassinating the emperor who really had no business being in Skyrim.

Early in the game I tried to kill a child in Riverwood and found out that wasn't possible, and then wound up in Falkreath. I decided to make it my base while I familiarised myself with the game, and spent two or three days (real time) just wandering around the area, doing quests for the Jarl and sleeping at Falkreath watchtower. It still feels like home. Eventually I made the journey to Riften, which felt like a pretty epic adventure. Good times!

Imperial, had no idea about the quest markers and wandered into a giant camp west of whiterun, not a very happy day for me as I get curbstomped.

Got my big ass Collector's Edition Box, got home; popped the game in, and played non-stop for 35 hours.

When I finally passed out, I had completed both Main Storylines, and the Mages Guild storyline; and had apparently done 50 dungeons...

I don't know if that's something to be ultimately proud of, or just plain sad....

Yes on the first part...

and yes on the second.

Of course I'm the same on both points.

:D

I had no idea what to expect as I was not an avid video gamer. I'd played a few video games such as Mario with my son. The last time I actually played a game just for me was the old Zelda on Nintendo. (Which I enjoyed immensely) But I had read about the game and it sounded fun. When I started the disc I was immediately blown away by the opening movie. Then when I had to follow someone out of Helgen I had no idea what I was doing or who I was following. (I ended up following Hadvar out of chance rather than choice.) It was a good thing he would wait for me cause I didn't really know how to control the character or swing weapons or anything. I was once again blown away by the graphics after exiting Helgen. I was killed by the wolves as I had no armor to start with (Seriously, I had no clue what I was doing.) By the time I got to Riverwood I settled down, practiced a few things and finally set off for Whiterun. I played on Adept and was killed a lot because I didn't know you could change the difficulty level. I was thoroughly taken in by this game and LOVE it. I haven't enjoyed myself this much with a video game since the old Zelda days! :)
