Should there be a PermaDeath mode in Skyrim or future Elder Scrolls games

I was talking with a friend on Xbox the other day and we both have the 360 version of Skyrim. Anyway, we were talking and we thought it would be cool if there was a PermaDeath mode in Skyrim or future Elder Scrolls games. For those that don't know what PermaDeath is, if you die in a game your game save gets deleted and you have to start from the very beginning.

What are your opinions about this mode for Skyrim or any future Elder Scrolls games?

I wouldn't have a problem with it being an official mode but wouldn't want them spending a lot of development time on it since if someone wants to play that way, they can do so easily w/o any extra programming needed. There are issues of how this would be triggered by the game and how far it would go. Does it only delete the active file or any backup/duplicate saves made along the way?

There may be too many questions to handle it well on the programming side. Any new thing can often cause a bunch of glitches in something else even seemingly unrelated. The player handling it themselves would be the easiest and most consistent option.

I do like the general idea. I've used the perma-dead idea before with a character or two but like a lot of voluntary limitations one creates for themselves for RP purposes, it might be best handled on the player's end. So I guess I am a "no" with a "but..."

The only issue I have with permadeath is that it would end up getting pretty boring for me to have to start over every 3 1/2 minutes. :)

3 1/2 minutes, , , , alchemy can extend it to 4 minutes .. .. .. :D

Optional, that's all I gotta say. Make it optional.

Instead of that, it would be cool if Skyrim had a Hardcore Mode like Fallout: New Vegas has. You know... dehydration, lack of sleep, starvation, etc. can kill you, and health potions ALWAYS heal over time instead of letting you heal instantly... I would like to see that, especially since that would make sense in a medieval-type era like Skyrim is set in.

Aren't there mods for that? I realize that those of us on console are a little limited, but I understand that there are some awesome mods for exactly the situation you're talking about that a lot of people use. Personally, I kind of like in Oblivion where you actually have to stop and sleep in order to heal. SR is a little weird that way when it comes to regeneration. Magicka and stamina maybe, but why health? Nobody heals that fast without assistance.

Actually, not true; in Oblivion and Skyrim, if you wait an hour you will regenerate all health. If a Hardcore Mode was made, it would be nice if they took out that feature when Hardcore Mode is disabled so you can't wait to be healed, and you must actually heal yourself with potions or sleeping. That's how it is in Fallout; you have to use Stimpaks, sleep, or see a doctor to heal yourself; waiting won't do anything for you unless you have a regenerative implant (Fallout: NV)

Also, yes... console really does limit us. I would get mods if I had a PC to play on, but I've only got my Xbox. :p
