Joker

Cook, Wine Taster, Scotch Taster, Adventure Seeker
I just bought the Legendary Edition of Skyrim. I have heard about, and read about these for some time now. Can anyone provide some guidance or give me some suggestions as to what I should be looking for, or how these affect my current characters? Thanks in advance. :beermug:

Umm... what exactly do you mean by guidance? I'm sorry but I didn't quite understand your post.

I am wondering how the DLCs will affect my vanilla game. I am also wondering if I should load them all at once, or one by one? Is one DLC better or worse than the others? I am curious as to how they will add to my game as far as how quests are affected by the DLCs. Obviously there more quests, but will the vanilla quests change? I guess I am wondering what they bring to the game.

I am asking for some guidance so that I can enjoy these new additions. That is my what I am asking for in terms of guidance. Thanks for asking for clarification. :beermug:

Vampires every time you turn around, new factions, the ability to craft new items, the ability to build houses and adopt children and regular harrassment by religious zealots. Oh! And lots of new places to explore, lots of new quests, new critters, people, bosses, items, spells and abilities. Plan on a much more immersive and random game. Personally I find it easier to RP with the DLCs. There are just so many more options. Oh, and we can't forget that some of those glitches and weird things that were in the vanilla have been patched over (and that includes our dear friend in Riverwood suddenly becoming as poor as a church mouse :)).

As to better or worse, it depends on what you're doing. If you like new powers, spells and monsters then Dawnguard is awesome! If you like whole new areas to explore, Dunmer and lotsa new shouts then Dragonborn is awesome. If you like true RP and immersion then Hearthfire is great! All in all, I personally don't think that any of them are better than any other, it just depends on what you want to do and how you play.

A warning though - if we thought Skryim was a game w/out end on vanilla, it's gone far, far beyond that with the DLCs. I personally can't find a way to get anywhere near everything done. I've probably done about 25% of stuff and I'm nearly at level 70! Yikes!

BTW, I'm on PS3 as well.

Daelon DuLac, thank you so much for all the information! That was extremely helpful. I will have to load those DLCs soon then. Cheers :beermug:

Joker Thanks for the clarification :)

I think loading both Dragonborn and Dawnguard simultaneously for your first playthrough might get a bit overwhelming, all that new content! That being said, I'd still load them both and just play the game at your own pace, doing the quests when you feel like it. My most important piece of advice is: Don't rush things! Just play for the sake of playing, instead of rushing to level up or to reach a certain quest. For me, that kind of rushing tends to ruin the experience.

Have fun!

Really? I liked downloading all the DLCs at once. I'd played Vanilla and it practically doubled what was happening for me. I guess, since I don't really worry about doing quests, just living a life and doing what comes when it comes, all the random was good. I understand that not everybody plays that way.

Cherry & Daelon DuLac, thank you both for the insight and information. I think I will load one at a time, and experience them step by step. I appreciate your posts! :beermug:

Well, to be honest, I was merely assuming it could get overwhelming. I originally downloaded Dragonborn on release day, but I had already owned Dawnguard for a few months, so I wouldn't know. This was on the 360.

Almost a year after the release of Dragonborn, I got myself a better pc. Then I decided, what the heck, I'll just buy Skyrim again. I want all dem mods!
This decision coincided with the release of the Legendary edition, which I bought so I wouldn't have to get the DLCs again. When I installed it on my pc, I did immediately load all DLCs as well, but I had already played them before so it wasn't a problem.

EDIT: No problem Joker :)

Hearthfire can be loaded with anything and there isn't much quest- content changes like you get in the other 2. It just adds some new stuff like building a house, adoptions, some new items, crafting. It's more a suppliment than a standalone addition like the other two.

Dragonborn has less of an impact on the existing Skyrim world since it is in its own world space. Dawnguard will impact the Skyrim storyline more but that's not necessarily a good or bad thing though. I had them both going at the same time, but it isn't much a deal going either way.

I guess if you space out activating each part it will give you another point in the future to add in a batch of new things to mess with so that's kinda cool

Hit it on the head raido KASAI. Very well put. Very well put. You deserve rep for being so succinct!

The Dragonborn DLC won't kick in unless you do the Dragon Rising quest: after that you will get hassled by followers of Miraak, but that's all, unless you choose to go the Solstheim. The Vampire DLC can be a bit more of a problem since vampire attacks may kill people you need (smiths, shopkeepers etc.)
